Men who "learn" not to degrade women

I found this quote from an anon commenter on the last post and I thought it was relevant.

What do you guys think of Jay-Z's recent announcement?

Jay-Z has vowed to never use derogatory terms for women in his music again following the birth of his daughter, Blue Ivy Carter.

The rapper, who welcomed his first child with wife Beyoncé last weekend, has stated in a poem to celebrate the birth of baby Blue Ivy that he will drop the use of 'b*tch' - revealing that his degradation of women in his songs "has passed."

"Before I got in the game, made a change, and got rich/ I didn't think hard about using the word b*tch/ I rapped, I flipped it, I sold it, I lived it/ Now with my daughter in this world I curse those that give it. I never realized while on the fast track that I’d give riddance to the word bitch, to leave her innocence in tact."

The hip-hop icon continued:

"No man will degrade her, or call her name. I'm so focused on your future, the degradation has passed. I wish you wealth, health and insight. Forever young you may pass. Blue Ivy Carter, my angel."

I personally think of this as a start, but only that. He still has a lot of work to do. We see this with men a lot. They have a daughter and all of a sudden they don't like to see women degraded. There are two problems I see with this immediately.

One: Didn't his wife count as a woman who shouldn't be degraded? Or wasn't she "innocent" enough? He seemed to think it was all right for "non-innocent" women to be degraded.

And OK fine, it is good that he can see it from a different perspective now that he has a daughter and maybe he will extend this feeling to all women. I hope so. I hope he can continue to learn.

But the second problem is that it is still about HIM. It took him personally experiencing the feeling of "this is too close to me now and I don't want it to happen" in order for him to change.

Or as another anonymous commenter said on this blog,

I don't understand, Why does something dramatic have to happen in someone's life before they decide "Oh, yeah I gotta stop being this way because I don't want some one to mess with mine in the future."

Men should respect women not because the disrespect upsets men, but because it oppresses women. At least that is what I believe in cases like that.

However I still want to say that it is a good start and in my own opinion, if he continues to learn more about oppression and misogyny, then maybe he will come to realize this. I have hope.

We didn't hear a word like this from Gerard Way, Lindsey Way, or Frank Iero when they had daughters. Not one of them came forward and said "I never thought about how women were treated until I had a daughter, now I think I'll stop degrading them." So also in my opinion, Jay-Z is way ahead of them. MSI and MCR are still in the dark ages.

Also, I wish all of you a happy and healthy new year and the best of luck in 2012.

What good would that do?

She seems to think her twitter comments do good in other areas, with her speaking out against fanphobia etc. Why not speak out against this? Why suddenly claim 'speaking out does no good'?

Jessicka supports her because she too is an artist.

So Jessicka can go and support Chris Brown too, since he is an 'artist'. And Mel Gibson. Would that be alright with her? Why should Lindsey be let off the hook seeing as she is just as disgusting, corrupt, shallow and offensive as those idiots?

Anonymous said...

Jessicka's art was on Anthony Bourdain's show is he now a racist?

Does he perform songs full of racial slurs and does Jessicka ignore this?
Face it, Jessicka is an enabler and promoter of a racist and you just can't stand the truth. NOTHING she has done in the past can make up for that. She stands by the side of a racist piece of trash and that makes her no better.

Is Lyn-z her best friend? I doubt it.
That is Lyn-z not Jessicka. Two different people.

Actually Jessicka has said countless times what an amazing person Lindsey is, how kind she is etc etc. Hardly the words I'd use to talk about someone who played a part in such gross shit as Panty Shot, the song 'N*ggers' and who makes comments like 'Fuck the tsunami, who cares?'

Sick of this Jessicka issue. Oi, I know let's switch to Chantal. :rolls eyes:

Anonymous said...

I don't know them. But I know what they project with their 'art' and networking sites. I know Jessicka projects the image that she is very close and supportive of Lindsey. I know Lindsey is part of a disgisting misogynist and racist hate project band. These things are public knowledge because that is their public persona and those are their actions. We are judged on our actions, not our intentions. Jessicka has chosen to stand beside MSI/MCR and be counted with them. If she had a problem with racism, sexism, and violence against women, she would look elsewhere for friends.

Anonymous said...

Talking in negative terms about someone is not promotion. This is the only site that calls these disgusting individuals out on their shit. And Chantal? Is JUST as bad with her misogynist violence against women bullshit, and her defence of her pedo-song writing husband. Funnily enough, Jessicka also counts her as a friend.

Anonymous said...

I get the impression you could dance around all day making excuses for Jessicka and trying to get us to give her a break. Newflash: it's not going to happen unless she redeems herself by making a public statement on MCR?MSI and how she hates what they do and does not endorse it. She is hiding behind her silence on this issue and it is sickening. Someone as vocal as she pretends to be should know better and behave accordingly. She would rather go to dinner parties and befriend these people as she strives for as much attention as being friend with them will grant her.

Anonymous said...

She clearly has other friends. What about Mark Ryden, friends with The Ways? What about Ron English? What about Camille Rose Garcia? Tarina Tarintino? How far does your mysoginist, racist, sexist trickle down theory go?There is an art community that Jessicka and Lyn- z are a part of. I personally do not believe Jessicka is a racist.

Erm, because she's doing something that's AGAINST her 'feminist' beliefs? Like MCR did? And that's why this blog was started? To talk about it? She only has to 'prove' anything if she wants to redeem herself as more than someone who is whitewashing her friend's racist and sexist fail. Her choice.

Kapunua, I have to ask. So not to put words in your mouth. Did you like your correspondence with Jessicka? Did she seem like a bad person or a racist to you?

She seemed nice enough; as much as you can get to know a person over like 3 emails (which is to say, you can't actually know them.) She's civil and well-spoken and nice to talk to.

But she still endorses racist, violent, sexist "artists."

kapunua said...

She doesn't. But people are still going to think what they think.

You know what's getting old? Your comments about "BUT OTHER PEOPLE BREATHE THE SAME AIR AS MSI DOES THAT MAKE THEM RACISTS TOO?!?!?!?!" That's just about one of the stupidest arguments I've ever heard. We all run into racists and hateful people every day, in all our social circles. They do not make us racist by contagion or something.

But when you promote the art of your well-known racist/misogynist friends, then YES. If you speak out against other racists and misogynists, but it's totally cool and awesome when your friends do it, then YES.

Okay, I know that political discussion on this blog usually brings out the crazy rightwingnut troll, but I have to say something about Rick Santorum and the rest of these woman-hating sons of bitches running for the GOP nom.

Do women really understand what it would mean for them if guys like Rick Santorum had their way? They want to legally define life as beginning at conception (sperm meets egg), which would make many forms of contraception (including the pill) illegal. Many people don't realize that the pill not only works to prevent fertilization, but it also affects the lining of the uterus, preventing a fertilized egg from attaching properly. This makes it an abortifacient, which, under this crazy proposed "personhood at conception" law, would be illegal.

Not to mention, Rick Santorum wants to outlaw abortion under any circumstances, including rape, incest, or danger to the mother's life.

So... essentially, this creepy white man is saying that woman are so unimportant and irrelevant, that if his own daughter were raped, she should not even be given the option to get a morning after pill to prevent pregnancy. In addition to that, should her life become threatened by a pregnancy that ensued from the rape, she should have no recourse but to carry that baby to term and hope that the "Almighty God" would see fit to spare her life.

WTF???!! Who are the crazies supporting this guy?

kapunua said...

^Yup. he also said that in the unthinkable circumstance of his daughter being a victim of rape, he would make her carry a potential child to term so that "something good could come of it."

He is legit insane.

Has everyone seen this?

How frightening is it that some people in the United States are actually considering voting for a guy who wants to control their citizens' reproductive rights even more than Ceausescu?

And now the GOP's position on a woman's right to choose is including contraceptives such as the IUD and birth control pills. I suppose they want to keep us all barefoot, pregnant, and in the kitchen. Well, they can go fuck themselves (cause no woman in her right mind is going to fuck them and be forced to have babies every couple of years).

The pledge signed by three of the four remaining GOP candidates:

I stand with President Ronald Reagan in supporting “the unalienable personhood of every American, from the moment of conception until natural death,” and with the Republican Party platform in affirming that I “support a human life amendment to the Constitution, and endorse legislation to make clear that the 14th Amendment protections apply to unborn children.”

Notice the word "conception". If these guys have their way, they would make abortion murder from the moment of conception.

The only current GOP candidate who hasn't signed is Mitt Romney, who many Republicans are saying isn't "conservative enough". Interestingly, Rick Santorum, the most outspoken of the group on women's rights (or, non-rights, in his case) is now the front-runner. He thinks women should be forced to carry rape babies to term, and he doesn't believe in contraception.

He has said that women can't find happiness from a career, and that they are limited in their capacity to serve in the military. He suggested that they could maybe fly "small aircraft".

What a tool.

Anonymous said...

^Incidentally, Romney said he agreed with the "life at conception" concept, but he believes the issue of abortion/contraception should be left to the individual states. The only GOP candidate who said the personhood statement "went to far" was John Huntsman, who dropped out of the race early on.

Anonymous said...

Rick Santorum on contraception:

One of the things I will talk about that no President has talked about before is I think the dangers of contraception in this country, the whole sexual libertine idea. Many in the Christian faith have said, “Well, that’s okay. Contraception’s okay.”

It’s not okay because it’s a license to do things in the sexual realm that is counter to how things are supposed to be. They’re supposed to be within marriage, they are supposed to be for purposes that are, yes, conjugal, but also procreative.

Yep, he's talking about your birth control, ladies. This man is the Republican front-runner in the current primary for President of the U.S., and if he had his way, he'd have all of you popping out a baby every two years.

Some of you may think that misogyny is not a big deal, or that it doesn't affect you, but if that's the case, you need to wake the fuck up.

There are two Supreme Court Justices who are nearing retirement age, and if new ones were to be appointed by this jackass, or someone like him, you're looking at Roe vs. Wade likely being overturned, and this could affect not only your right to have an abortion, but your rights to use birth control.

Anonymous said...

Roe vs. Wade will never be overturned. That threat is just more propaganda and political posturing. It's what most Americans are sick of. The lies and the political posturing. The changing of stance depending on which way the wind is blowing.

No American is excited about this 2012 election. No one is excited about re-electing Obama and no one is excited about electing Romney or Santorum.

This is the most lack luster major American election I've seen in my lifetime. There are no winners in this one. Only the biggest losers which I fear will be middle class America.

Anonymous said...

Roe vs. Wade will never be overturned.

I hope you're right about that, but how can you just sit back and be so complacent, when every single candidate on the Republican side has made it clear that he is anti-choice?

Anonymous said...

I predict record low voter turnout this year.

The #question voters ask themselves during presidential election years is Am I better off now than I was 4 years ago?

For the majority of Americans the answer to that question this year is NO. Unemployment is higher, more people are losing their homes, more people getting deeper and deeper in debt, more homelessness, more violence, more dire straights.

A once suburban mom on the streets with her 3 children doesn't care much about reproductive rights of strangers. She cares where the next meal for her already born 3 kids is coming from. She cares about how she lost her teaching job and her husband lost his high tech job and where their next meal is going to come from. She cares about how they're going to scrap together an extra $35 to get a room in a cheap motel once a week so they can shower and clean up. She cares about what she is going to do if one her babies get sick. Where will she go? How will she pay for their meds?

That is what's on the minds of American voters. The luxury of thinking about Supreme Court justices and how their decisions might affect feminism, pro life or any movement is a luxury of the past. It's back to basics now. Food, clothing, shelter and a high school education.

That is the current state of the union.

Anonymous said...

Not so. Look at the primaries. The economy is taking a back seat to the Right's social agenda. People aren't voting for Santorum because of his economic stance.

Anonymous said...

but how can you just sit back and be so complacent, when every single candidate on the Republican side has made it clear that he is anti-choice

The same way I could sit back and be complacent when Obama made it clear that he was pro environment. We all know how he lived up to that promise.

In politics, clear isn't always transparent. Politicians say what they think they have to say to get themselves elected. First by their base, then by the general population.

Anonymous said...

Are you sure about that 9:35? Or, are the primary voters just voting for the candidate they think has the best chance of rallying the party and independents and beating Obama in November?

Just like the democratic primary voters did in 2008 when Obama was nominated over Hilary Clinton.

Anonymous said...

Are you sure about that 9:35? Or, are the primary voters just voting for the candidate they think has the best chance of rallying the party and independents and beating Obama in November?

Actually, the RNC wants Romney. They know that he has a much better chance of defeating Obama than Santorum, because he's the only GOP candidate capable of pulling in swing voters who might otherwise vote for Obama.

What's happening right now in the GOP is voter apathy. A lot of Republicans don't like Romney, but they can't stomach the Tea Party crowd and their religious agenda, so they're staying home. Voter turnout has been dismal. This is how a crazy like Santorum has managed to 'surge' into the lead.

Anonymous said...

With regards to Obama and the environment:

I was disappointed in him there too, but I also understand that it would have been next to impossible for him to enact tougher EPA standards in this economic environment. His first priority has to be getting the economy up and running.

Had he just bulldozed in and enacted tougher regulations, the economy would have suffered even more, and he probably would have had no chance in being re-elected. You have to understand that he is running against people who would completely dismantle the EPA if they could. In fact, the GOP all think that global warming is a hoax. Rick Santorum probably thinks that God will save us from climate change.

Anonymous said...

Santorum is far from crazy. He's a very accomplished, intelligent man. Just because you don't share his beliefs doesn't make him crazy.

That's another problem with today's political environment. The lack of respect for the other side. For people who see things differently.

There's an old saying in politics that still holds true today. All politics are local.

People will vote for the candidate who they feel will help them get a job, put and keep a roof over their heads, help them keep more of their own money & inable them to better feed & educate their children.

Anonymous said...

It's true. When people pull the curtains closed and cast their votes on election day they do so for purely self serving reasons. Right or left. D, R, I or Green.

Everyone votes for the person they believe will best serve their agenda and beliefs. Everyone votes for the candidate who best reflects their hopes for the future.

No one side is more or less crazy than the other.

How can anyone who believes that all life on earth is precious and no expense should be spared to stop global warming call a pro lifer who believes life should be protected from the moment of conception crazy?

Aren't both sides right? Shouldn't life as we know it be protected? Shouldn't endangered species be saved on all continents of the world? Including female fetuses in China and India where women are deemed useless, worthless or too expensive?

Shouldn't choice and protection take precedence over fear and discrimination?

He thinks it's his right to tell people not only who they can have sex with, but now, how they should be allowed to have sex. So that it's "special." To him.

I'll probably see it for free, but I guarantee it's going to get my back up. It looks like the typical "women are objects" rom-com and I hate those. I do like the idea that she's dating two guys and not being slut-shamed or whatever, but the idea of two dudes fighting over a woman and getting stalkery with her leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Earlier in the election, I was completely oblivious as to who Rick Santorum was, but when the dude went home to be with his daughter when she was sick, that was very commendable. Also, just watching how he hasn’t gotten into doing these horrible, horrible attack ads like Mitt Romney’s done against Newt Gingrich, and then the volume at which Newt has gone back at Romney… You know, I think Santorum has some presidential qualities, and I’m hoping that if it does come down to it, we’ll see a Republican in the White House… and that it’s Rick Santorum. Dave Mustaine of Megadeth

While many wouldn’t equate thrash metal with politics, from music censorship (“Hook In Mouth”) to the environment (“Countdown to Extinction”) to the effectiveness of the United Nations (“United Abominations”), Mustaine has always injected political themes into his songs.

Of course it's what we've all come to expect from someone who can't every respect anyone's point of view other than her own.

Anonymous said...

If anyone is appearing arrogant and elitist it's you 8:43. Why don't you respect other people's decision to dislike the ideology that someone proposes or the decision not to follow an artist if it conflicts with their own morals?

Anonymous said...

They're going to have to take plenty of artists off their ipods and remove plenty writers from their reading lists if contributions to the GOP are a no no.

Bye bye William Gibson.

Anonymous said...

It's ridiculous to suggest that you must support an artist, especially in a so-called free market which allows choice.

Anonymous said...

It's ridiculous to call an artist stupid just because their political views or views on faith differ from yours. That's what's ridiculous and ignorant. A truly wise person can see both sides of the coin as equally important, valuable and necessary.

Anonymous said...

If any of that is true, which I highly doubt 9:13 as he is now a native of British Columbia, that will be the person's decision and you should respect that.

Anonymous said...

As you should respect Dave Mustaine's personal political decisions and not call him stupid or brain dead for those decisions?

Artists are not the most important. people on earth. The people that you deal with daily, your family, friends, people you work with, are. You don't know these artists or how they truly think. I don't understand why you take it so personally if people form an opinion based on their image which you consider so ignorant.

Anonymous said...

I hope they don't have any Ramones on their ipods. Joey Ramone was a staunch supporter of the GOP.

Actually that would make sense and it would not surprise me.

You know what 9:28? If he thinks I'm stupid, I will respect his right to think that. How's that for democracy?

Anonymous said...

I hope they don't have JayZ, Lil Wayne, P Diddy or 50¢ on their ipods either.

Anonymous said...

That's fine for a warped sense of democracy 9:43. If he wants to automatically think that you are stupid without ever talking to you and trying to find out why you believe what you believe. Or if you do the same to him and his beliefs. If either of you write the other off as stupid or brain dead just because you don't share the same beliefs, that is warped and very arrogant IMO.

That is my opinion of your opinion. How's that for democracy?

Anonymous said...

9:54 you are entitled to think whatever you like. No one controls you.

Except these aren't and should never be "political views." This is about basic human rights: the right of two people to marry regardless of gender/gender identity, and the right of women to control our own bodies. Politicians making these rights political is the most backwards thing ever.

Isn't this supposed to be a society where all views are accepted?

No, and I don't know where you keep getting that idea. Why should I accept the view that women, homosexuals and minorities are inferior, and entitled to less rights? To hell with that. I don't accept that and never will. OH NOEZ, CLOSED MIND. Yup. My mind is closed to oppression being "the right way" and it will remain closed to that.

And just to keep in the spirit of things and because I love how you react to this, you're also an idiot. :D

As an independent I have no time for anyone who stoops to the lowest rung of the verbal abuse ladder. Calling someone who doesn't agree with you an idiot? Trying to make them feel inferior to you because of their beliefs? No. I have neither the time or the patience for that manipulative foolishness. The it's my way or the highway went the same way as the bomb shelters of the 50's.

You want to talk about oppression? You best be willing to talk about how you try to oppress and suppress the opinions of the members of your own sex, race, religion or creed who disagree with you.

You better be willing and able to put up a good, valid and respectful argument for your cause.

Women of the world face enough obstacles. They don't need other women demeaning them and their beliefs.

Anonymous said...

I seriously don't think this Mya knows or cares about who Chris Brown is. If Mya is a woman, she's probably fighting her own battles and could probably use some support from the members of her own sex.

Anonymous said...

How does that not appear as you trying to oppress and suppress the opinion of those who disagree with these people? Hypothetical situation: if someone shares the same gender as you, does it invalidate anything they may have said that offended you, or if they represent anything that crosses your own moral standards you as a free thinker should not say anything because they share the same sex as you?

Anonymous said...

Because theyare not calling anyone who disagrees with them so yes you are an idiot. They are not automatically writing them off as a crazy, or as a stupid or a amoron.

Men don't have a clue nor have they ever had a clue about the emotions attached to a woman's reproductive organs. Why? Because they don't have those organs. They can study them. They can research them. They can care for and treat them. But men can never have female reproductive organs. Anymore than women can have functioning male reproductive organs.

Yes. It all does come down to basic respect. Do you respect your partner, male or female, enough to be honest with them?

Do you respect them enough to ask if they are using birth control? Do you respect yourself enough to provide the birth/std control?

Will you be there for a female sex partner if things don't go as planned and she gets pregnant? Will you support her in any decision regarding her body and your child? Can you recognize the fact that it is not just your body, but someone elses child?

Can you recognize the fact that the life growing inside you in not only part of you but also part of him?

That's only one scenario. You are assuming all fathers want their biological offspring. Not all do. Some children are born in horrendous situations to people that should never have children in their care.

I disagree. If a couple is married or in a committed relationship, then they probably need to discuss what would happen in the event that an accidental pregnancy occurred. I definitely think the man should have an input.

But, ultimately, it is the woman who has to carry a baby for nine months and go through painful labor to deliver it. The idea that a man can have control over a woman's body, just because he has sex with her is objectionable to me and to many, many other women.

And for the record, men often try to force women into getting abortions if they don't want to be financially responsible for a child. Pro-lifers would argue that the husband has no right to do that in this situation. They assign all rights to the unborn fetus, even if it's no more than a zygote.

No, it's really not. Dave Mustaine supports Rick Santorum for President. Rick Santorum's views on women's reproductive health are so out of line with the average American, it's not even funny, yet he has made it clear that they would influence his agenda on women's health issues.

Even the Catholics I know use birth control, ffs. Rick Santorum doesn't believe in the pill, the IUD, tubal ligation, vasectomy, or even condoms. He would have people using the "rhythm method". To quote my doctor, "You know what you call people who use the rhythm method for contraception? Parents."

Rick Santorum has eight children, the last of which is three years old, and suffers from a rare chromosomal disorder. She will be lucky if she sees her fourth birthday. Children with this disorder rarely live to be a year old, and only have a 1% chance to make it until they are ten. A cold has the potential to kill this child.

Her mother gave birth to her at 48. The chances of having a child with a chomosomal abnormality increase dramatically with the age of the mother.

I am in my fifties and still have not gone through menopause. I am certainly not going to rely on the "rhythm method" to protect me from an unwanted pregnancy, which would likely produce a child with Downs Syndrome or worse, but Rick Santorum thinks I should, when I have neither the emotional nor financial resources to deal with a child like that. This is not a man I am going to support to be the leader of this country, and IMO, anyone who does support him is an idiot.

That is my opinion and I am damn well entitled to it.

There is literally no way for me to oppress white Christian dudes. But yeah - when someone's opinion is that I am less of a person because of my gender, or that others are less worthy of rights because of their race or sexual orientation, they are going to get nothing but a smackdown from me. A gleeful smackdown! I have no respect for those beliefs, I wish they would all be wiped out, and yes, again: You're an idiot. ^_^ Cheers!

You can think I'm ridiculous and ignorant all you want to, and I will continue to think Dave Mustaine lost lots and lots of brain cells back when he was using so many drugs he had to go to rehab 17 times.

We are both entitled to our opinions, and so long as we don't try to force others to conform to our opinions, everything is hunky-dory.

I loved that show, all the female characters were really strong. It was such a positive show and we need more like that.

Are you talking about Shabooh Shoobah from Mayo's?

Anonymous said...

Quite frankly, with all the serious issues pertaining to women's rights/women's health/women's safety being raised on this blog as of late, the identity of some mysterious, anonymous blogger who may or may not be a hate-filled little misogynist rawkstah is the last thing I'm concerned with right now.

Anonymous said...

Ha!

Anonymous said...

Why would anyone call a blog Mayonaise? Dumb if you ask me.

Anonymous said...

Maybe it's their favorite food.

Anonymous said...

Mayonaise is the name of a Smashing Pumpkins song. I think maybe the person pretending to be Gerard thought at the time that Gerard was a bigger Smashing Pumpkins fan than he actually was. I've never heard him reference their songs as inspiration. The only thing he's ever said (to my knowledge) about them is that Mikey used to be a "Pumpkinhead" and that at one point in his life he went to a Smashing Pumpkins concert with his head shaved and people mistook him for Billy Corgan. I think he made the whole thing up, personally, because that was around the time the press was making a big deal about him looking like Billy Corgan.

Anyway, I don't see Gerard naming a blog after a Smashing Pumpkins song at any rate.

Anonymous said...

I think Gerard made a lot of things up.

Can I ask any of you who were around at the time Mayo's came into being a question? Did anybody ever consider that Mayo might be Mikey? What made people think it was connected to MCR in the first place?

Anonymous said...

I don't think Mikey is smart enough. Or rather, not educated enough. I don't think any of them are as well versed as whoever this Mayo person is. They tend to use slang and incorrect grammar, which is pretty normal, I guess. But Mayo wrote/writes really well. Whoever that person is, they are a writer/poet or something of that ilk. Be it either amateur or semi professional.

But, Mayo was in some way connected to MCR. I don't know how, but he knew way too much info and never made a mistake with timning when they were on tour. There were so many things. But I agree with Kapunua, he perhaps worked for the band. He knew stuff about lights and cameras. Oh, and he definitely (as unobviously as he could) pretended to be Gerard. He still is.

Also this.

And I also don't wish to tell people what they should and shouldn't talk about. Yes, it's definitely more beneficial to focus on what it going on in the world and how all our rights are being yoinked right out from under us. But talking about some anonymous bloggers isn't the end of the world, either. Didn't mean for it to come across like that.

You have to have a bit of both. In real life you don't always talk about serious issues. And talking about something else doesn't mean those issues are not as important or relevant.

Which is probably why he wanted people to think he was Gerard. It's the same reason a lot of people write fanfic instead of original fiction -- they have a built-in audience. Nobody would have given this guy a second read if they hadn't thought he was someone connected to MCR.

In this world there are so many examples of those that lull others into a false sense of security that allows them to be easily emotionally manipulated. People should be able to question things more readily. It's even more important now the way things are going.

Anonymous said...

I think people are desperately searching for validation. The world is a great big scary place, and ultimately, all of us are alone in it. We need to feel like there is something or someone out there who understands us, some "special connection" that affirms us. It's why religions exists. It's how people can think they talk telepathically to some invisible god in the sky who will watch over them and protect them. The same principle is involved when people idolize rockstars and pretend they talk to them on secret blogs.

It's not easy being a human.

Anonymous said...

Ah yes, rockstars are such important people.

Glad I don't know any.

I don't imagine any of the people who idolize rockstars have a clue what they're really like. I think if they really got the chance to know them, they wouldn't even remotely resemble their fantasy renditions of them.
