Men who "learn" not to degrade women

I found this quote from an anon commenter on the last post and I thought it was relevant.

What do you guys think of Jay-Z's recent announcement?

Jay-Z has vowed to never use derogatory terms for women in his music again following the birth of his daughter, Blue Ivy Carter.

The rapper, who welcomed his first child with wife Beyoncé last weekend, has stated in a poem to celebrate the birth of baby Blue Ivy that he will drop the use of 'b*tch' - revealing that his degradation of women in his songs "has passed."

"Before I got in the game, made a change, and got rich/ I didn't think hard about using the word b*tch/ I rapped, I flipped it, I sold it, I lived it/ Now with my daughter in this world I curse those that give it. I never realized while on the fast track that I’d give riddance to the word bitch, to leave her innocence in tact."

The hip-hop icon continued:

"No man will degrade her, or call her name. I'm so focused on your future, the degradation has passed. I wish you wealth, health and insight. Forever young you may pass. Blue Ivy Carter, my angel."

I personally think of this as a start, but only that. He still has a lot of work to do. We see this with men a lot. They have a daughter and all of a sudden they don't like to see women degraded. There are two problems I see with this immediately.

One: Didn't his wife count as a woman who shouldn't be degraded? Or wasn't she "innocent" enough? He seemed to think it was all right for "non-innocent" women to be degraded.

And OK fine, it is good that he can see it from a different perspective now that he has a daughter and maybe he will extend this feeling to all women. I hope so. I hope he can continue to learn.

But the second problem is that it is still about HIM. It took him personally experiencing the feeling of "this is too close to me now and I don't want it to happen" in order for him to change.

Or as another anonymous commenter said on this blog,

I don't understand, Why does something dramatic have to happen in someone's life before they decide "Oh, yeah I gotta stop being this way because I don't want some one to mess with mine in the future."

Men should respect women not because the disrespect upsets men, but because it oppresses women. At least that is what I believe in cases like that.

However I still want to say that it is a good start and in my own opinion, if he continues to learn more about oppression and misogyny, then maybe he will come to realize this. I have hope.

We didn't hear a word like this from Gerard Way, Lindsey Way, or Frank Iero when they had daughters. Not one of them came forward and said "I never thought about how women were treated until I had a daughter, now I think I'll stop degrading them." So also in my opinion, Jay-Z is way ahead of them. MSI and MCR are still in the dark ages.

Also, I wish all of you a happy and healthy new year and the best of luck in 2012.

Having a child seems to have had the opposite effect on Gerard. Now he is 'proud' to use sexist slurs based on genitalia towards underage girls online! Now he is 'proud' to threaten to beat a girl so bad she 'dies slow'!

Anonymous said...

Why didn't he stop using the word b**** when he fell in love with Beyonce? Was she not worthy? You'd think Beyonce would have given him a hard time for using that word, what with her being all for girl power.

So he has a baby girl and women suddenly deserve respect in his eyes, not before? What a strange world.

Isn't it, though.

I agree, it is a start. It makes you wonder how little some men have really been educated regarding oppression and misogyny. I mean, they all had mothers, or maternal figures. I do understand that perhaps previous generations were not forthcoming with equality and such. You would like to hope that that may change more in the future. But when you read such ignorant comments from alot of teenage fans (of varying fanbases, but I have mainly experienced MCR, MSI fans) it makes you despair. Why aren't their mothers and fathers teaching them?

Well, fingers crossed for the future.

Thanks for the new post VV, and Happy New Year to you also.

Jay Z is full of shit IMO. He has no respect for women and he never will. He only cares about what is his. What he has pissed on and marked as his. He could care less about women or women's rights. It's the same old same old. Don't fuck with mine. That's it.

He doesn't deserve anymore respect than your neighbor down the street who ogles the teenage girl next door.

It's not any sort of start. It's pure possessional bullshit that should get you all more pissed than anything any member of MCR has ever said.

Anonymous said...

Yes. It's a this is my baby girl, my property, so don't you fuck with her bullshit. It's disgusting if you ask me.

It's something GW and FI never did. They never tried to use their daughters to gain respect in feminists communities.

Anonymous said...

Jay Z can kiss my cute, adorable, female ass while he's trying to learn to respect me. What a diaper load of shit.

Anonymous said...

I agree that Jay-Z should have come to the conclusion that it's wrong to disrespect women long ago. He had a mother, a grandmother, a wife, probably aunts, maybe sisters, female cousins, etc., etc. -- so why the big change now?

I realize that becoming a parent does make you look at the world through different eyes, but good god -- is his daughter the first female he's ever loved? Did he not think the other females in his life were human beings, deserving of respect?

I just don't get it. I really don't.

Anonymous said...

No. You get it. It's Jay Z and people like him that don't get it and they never will. The users. The real liars. The pretenders. I have no to negative zero respect for him.

Anonymous said...

Frank Iero and Gerard Way and the rest of their ilk, will never learn. Sure, they'll never use their daughters as an apology, but they will also never EVER see that women are oppressed in the first place and that they are in the wrong with the way they degrade women.

Anonymous said...

Did he not think the other females in his life were human beings, deserving of respect?

Exactly. It's that kind of bullshit that is always so transparent. Or it should be.

Didn't he have any respect for his own mother? The woman who gave life to him? Are we really suppose to believe that having a female baby has suddenly taught him to not view women as bitches and hos to be used and f*cked? He doesn't care about women any more now than he did a month ago. He just cares about his own daughter. What he built. His property.

What a fucking idiot he is.

Anonymous said...

I wonder how many millions Jay Z will try to make off of his daughter. I wonder how many more ways he will try to use her.

Anonymous said...

If Beyonce was smart she would shut his ass up right now or kick him to the curb.

Anonymous said...

Who said Beyonce was smart? lulz

Anonymous said...

"No man will degrade her..."

Yeah. Good luck with that, Jay-Z. I think you had best be moving her to another planet if you think that's going to happen.

Anonymous said...

Jay Z be dreaming and having nightmares about the way he's treated girls all his life. Knowing that his daughter will get exactly what he gave to other men's baby girls. What he gonna do about it? Give it more lip service? That's all it is.

Anonymous said...

Who knows? Maybe he will have his eyes opened. Maybe he will see how OTHER women are treated, not just his daughter. I don't like the fact that it takes "but this one is MINE" for men to realize the truth, but if it works, it works.

Anonymous said...

I don't like the fact that it takes "but this one is MINE" for men to realize the truth, but if it works, it works.

I kind of have to agree with you. Progress is progress, no matter how it comes about. I just hope this guy is for real. And if he maybe makes a few more guys stop and rethink the way they see women, he will have done some good.

Anonymous said...

Sorry, I've been treated fine my whole life, despite my vagina. I so don't get what you obviously educated women are complaining about. I am sorry your experience has not been the same.

Anonymous said...

What you need to understand that is in the hip hop world you have to do and say certain things. You have to flash your wealth, you have to curse, you have to say Nigga and you have to degrade women. They all do it. Name me one high profile rapper who doesn't say bitch, hoe or nigga, other than Will Smith who is no longer in the game? That behaviour for some unknown reason appeals to the masses and sells records. Its ridiculously sad but true.

Jay-z always says bitch ho etc but he never names names, so as far a we know the women in his songs are fictional characters for the song he's written, that doesn't make it any better but it does bring me back to the point that its expected from the record labels and they have to comply. The hip hop world is a very dark and evil place where there isn't a lot of respect for anything let a lone women.

Many rappers will rap love songs or songs of respect about their Mamas/daughters but then in the next track will turn around and call a woman a ho or a slut. The respect only reaches to those they love but isn't it like that for most people? If a stanger does something to you on the street you might say or think "what a fucking idiot?" but if someone you love did the same thing would you say or think that about them? I know I wouldn't.

I'm glad Jay-Z has decided to censor himself from using that word out of respect for his daughter. I think its good that he's realising just how deaming some of the words he uses are. I think in the beginning it was just business he did what he was told, he made a lot of money etc and now its personal and he choosing to not to use those words in his songs.

I hope that other rappers do the same and I hope that one day they'll all stop calling each other nigga. But I think we're a long way away from that.

Jay Z is a big name in the industry. Maybe he will make other rapper re-think their lyrics? Has Eminem ever used the word b****?

Anonymous said...

Hell yeah that was his ex wife's middle name while he was rapping on his earlier
tracks (and that was being nice.) Those songs were really disturbing back in the day... I think there was one song where he said he put her corpse in the trunk or something? Idk, my cousin bought the album home and being as nosy as I was, dammit I listened to the whole cd...

All I have to say is, I was traumatized for week and a half and I never went in that basement again... lol

Anonymous said...

LOL 7.13 sorry you were so traumatised but I think 6.34 was being sarcastic.

You know what? I love Eminem's albums I really like his songs. He's had quite a hard and messed up life and his songs are like his therapy he gets out his aggression his anger and his angst through his lyrics. I don't mind that his lyrics are offensive some of them I can even relate to on a personal level. I think he's a lyrical genius.

Anonymous said...

Having had a bad past is no excuse to oppress other people. You don't care that he's oppressive? You think he's a genius? That tells me all I need to know about you.

Anonymous said...

Eminem is big with the f-word too (not fuck, but f*ggot).

While I agree that he's a very talented lyricist, I don't care for him as a human being, and I don't support him.

Anonymous said...

Sorry, I've been treated fine my whole life, despite my vagina. I so don't get what you obviously educated women are complaining about. I am sorry your experience has not been the same.

I don't understand you at all. It's great that you have never experienced any negativity stemming from your gender, but how can you close your eyes to the fact that it exists?

I have a good life, and although I have faced discrimination at various points in my life, I have managed to overcome it. However, I don't take my life for granted, nor do I ignore the plight of other women who don't have it as good as I do.

I know lots of women whose husbands want to control them. I know women who have been abused by their spouses/boyfriends. I honestly do not get how you can live in this world and not see other women being abused, discriminated against, and objectified.

I think you must be either very young and naive, or very, very sheltered.

I wouldn't call MCR a "great band". Thy have a long way to go before they even get close. Danger Days was different, not spectacular. It got your attention for a few minutes, but then you kinda shrugged your shoulders and forgot about it.

Maybe that's why the wifey's going back on tour with her pedo and rape songs. Times are hard at the crouton mansion.

I wonder how much Gerard Way is actually worth?
I would say he was a millionaire, what with songwriting royalties and the comic book royalties.
I also wonder what Mrs Way brought to the table? Nothing much I imagine, except her "artistic ability" and her backbending ability....
Oh and her "rad tattoos"....

LMAO. JMont, I knew it before I even read the article. Don't know why that guy has such a hard-on for MCR. He always has though. Too bad for he's not the music buying public, and his opinions count for very little when it comes to the people actually buying music.

Danger Days was extraordinary in one way: It was extraordinarily forgettable.

I liked Danger Days, it was an easy listen album. Obviously the first 3 were far far better. I think changing direction was good for the band, you don't know what works until you try it.

I'd say Gerard has a couple million in the bank. He's definitely no Bono.

And if you're wondering if it the crowd got any bigger when MCR took the stage? It didn't:

According to tv reports they pulled the biggest crowd of the day, up until their time slot, and this was before the free entry conditions were announced.

NZ BDO sales collapsed because many bands this year were repeat appearances, the decision to have one main stage resulting in a 45 minute gap between some acts, the Boiler Room becoming the Boiler Stage, and the withdrawal of co-headliner Kanye West from the NZ show.

Too bad the 'biggest crowd of the day' was still shockingly small.

Anonymous said...

I know a lot of people who still want to like MCR, but they couldn't buy into the Danger Days concept. The dystopian thing has been so overdone in YA novels as of late, and MCR didn't bring anything new to it. It felt like they were just trying to cash in on a trend, and appeal to very young audiences.

As a fairly recent college grad trying to make my way in the world, I find that kind of fantasy very unappealing. It was so juvenile. I enjoyed the Bullets/Three Cheers era so much because it was so angry and rough and unique. It mirrored the way I felt at the time as a high schooler trying to find who I was. The Neon Pretend-Dystopia world of Danger Days just felt like a marketing scheme to me, and I couldn't relate.

Anonymous said...

the withdrawal of co-headliner Kanye West from the NZ show

Talk about a racist, sexist, douchbag. Kanye West is the king of those. One of the most arrogant, self centered meffers to ever disgrace the face of the earth.

Ticket sales were down because he was announced as a co-headliner not because he decided to withdraw because nobody wanted to see or hear his racist, sexist ass.

He'll forever be remember for what he did to Taylor Swift. In the most deservingly unkind light possible. Asshole.

Anonymous said...

Now, I honestly do not give a single crap about what this person says about me, because I’m fairly sure it’s someone who’s kind of followed me around the internet since ‘07 or so. However, this person is also a right-wing, “WHITE RIGHTS” kind of person, and they just do not give up on this “BUT WHITE PEOPLE ARE OPPRESSED BY PEOPLE OF COLOR, I SAY THIS AS SOMEONE WHO IS COLORBLIND” nonsense.

This is all going on here which is a long-standing blog that started out as a My Chemical Romance “wtf is happening to this band” blog, and has turned into a place to just call them (and others) out on their cosntant racist/sexist/homophobic/transphobic fails.

So, I have no further clues on what I can say to this one ignorant person. I feel like they’re just not getting it. I know I can’t actually force someone to stop being racist and privileged.

But seriously, if anyone has any ideas on how I—a (mostly) white person with white privilege—can have an actual conversation with someone this ignorant, please to be telling me what to say/how to deal.

ETA: Looks like this is a troll. A racist troll, sure, but still just a troll.

This happens to people on the internet all the time; this and worse. This one just made me lose my job a few years ago, but worse things have happened to other people with internet stalkers. I was lucky. It's less to do with me and more with them.

Are they this vocal about Lindsey laughing about the deaths of thousands of Japanese people? Are they upset over MSI's song 'N*gger', or the revolting lyrics of Jimmy's other disgusting project?

kapunua said...

Anyway, here's a really good article about what I was talking about yesterday, for anyone who is genuinely interested and not just coming here to act insane:

The purpose of this exercise was to show you white folks that we (POC) don’t have a choice. I can’t go outside right now and be secure in the knowledge that I won’t be met with some level of discrimination based on my appearance. I can’t turn on the TV and be secure in the knowledge that representations of my race won’t be overblown caricatures or typecasted roles.

People of color don’t have the option of bursting into tears and storming off, because you—white folks—have the power to take away from us what we have. Our rights, our freedoms, our livelihood. You getting your feelings hurt by some person of color is not the equivalent to me having to swallow the poisonous racism of my teachers from middle school to college. To fucking college. That’s over twenty years of racism from people who are supposed to be responsible for my education.

Your feelings regarding racism against POC do not matter because it isn’t about you. You’re not losing anything having these discussions. You still get to go outside and be as white and carefree as ever. You get no sympathy from me just because a Black girl made fun of you in school one time, and suddenly you think you’ve gleaned what it means to be oppressed because of your race. Calling you a “Ginger” because of your red hair and freckles isn’t oppression. It’s mean, but in the end you still come out as privileged and white as ever.

I watched this series of Sherlock, but I've not seen the first. I need to go on iplayer before they get removed.

Hi Kapunua. Hi anons.
I do indeed watch Sherlock. My favourite episode was A Scandal in Belgravia. Brilliant.

sorry to disappoint you anon but the first series is no longer on BBCiplayer. Only the last episode available.

Anonymous said...

Oh that sucks! I swear BBC3 ran an advert on Saturday that said 'catch up with Sherlock from the beginning' or something, so I just assumed they meant the first series would be online. Bummer!

kapunua said...

Hi Welshie! Oooh another Sherlock fan!

Welp, I would have loved Scandal in Belgravia since it has some of the best acting in the whole series, BUT, Steven Moffat (who's pretty vocal about how he thinks women are inferior,) made a mess of Irene Adler. Holmes outwits her, Holmes wins, and eventually he saves her. In the book, she outwitted him and escaped without his help.

Moffat can suck a fat, juicy one, but aside from that, I am still getting enjoyment out of the acting and some of the writing on that show. I love Mark Gatiss! And I just love Benedict Cumberbatch, too.

I don't get BBC, but PBS just started playing Sherlock on Sundays after Downtown Abbey. ^_^ However, I downloaded the second season before they blew up Megaupload. :D No regrets!

kapunua said...

12:38, also it's' on Netflix streaming!

Welshie said...

Oh my giddy aunt! Downton Abbey followed by Sherlock. How fantabulous:)

I agree with you about that episode having the best acting in the series. I've not read the book so wouldn't know about Steven Moffat's portrayal of Irene Adler.
Benedict Cumberbatch is just too good or words:D

Welshie said...

*for words

Methinks Sherlock's melting my brain:(

kapunua said...

I missed the first season of Downtown Abbey so I have no clue what is going on. I was very confused, but it has Maggie Smith in it and I just love her. Welshie, if you are really interested, here's why Steven Moffat needs a time-out to think about the things he's said. :) I tweeted him this link too, and a few other people did as well. He's kind of an a-hole!

But there's no denying that Sherlock is an awesome series and the acting is stellar. I like the way it is filmed, too (though the blurriness sometimes makes me want to squint.) And I love Martin Freeman, how awesome is he!

I've heard Sherlock is coming back for a season 3, too.

Welshie said...

Kapunua, in my humble opinion, the first series of Downton Abbey was by far the best. Have you seen the Xmas episode? Maggie Smith is superb.

Andrew Scott is brilliant as Jim Moriarty. Those eyes. Eek:/
Yes indeedy, there is going to be a third series of Sherlock. Cannot wait.

I'll have a look at your link K.

kapunua said...

Thanks, Welshie!

I've only seen the one episode of DA so far. I think I really need to start from the beginning because I had no idea who was who. :)

Moriarty - at first I was like, "Really? Is that how they're playing him?" But then he ended up being so off his nut, going from doofy and amusing to explosively violent that he ended up freaking me out. Which I think was the point. He did a really good job!

Oh Kellie, you're an MSI fan. You might want to examine your own obese hypocrisy.

Anonymous said...

Who's Kellie?

Anonymous said...

I would just like to say I have just discovered Michael Fassbender, and, oh my freakin' goodness, is that man handsome.
Also very talented. ;)

Anonymous said...

Kellie is one of the Lindsey stalkers who flew into the US to visit the art show. She also uses every chance she can get to force her shitty fan art onto Gerard abnd Lindsey. She hates people using sexist, homophobic or racist slurs (apart from when MSI do it, because 'it's clear they're not serious lol!').

Anon, you might want to look into Fassbender's past. He beat the shit out of his former girlfriend and put her in hospital. The man's a piece of shit.

Anonymous said...

I heard about that, but didn't his ex withdraw the case saying she didn't want to hurt his career? I mean, if a guy had beaten me up so badly, I would have made sure he was punished for it, screw his "career". I'm just not sure if it's true.

Anonymous said...

Lots of women are put under pressure to drop those kind of charges, sometimes emotional pressure. It's not unusual, and doesn't mean 'thye made the whole thing up'. She was admitted to hospital and there was clear evidence of an assault.

kapunua said...

I heard about that, but didn't his ex withdraw the case saying she didn't want to hurt his career? I mean, if a guy had beaten me up so badly, I would have made sure he was punished for it, screw his "career".

IF IT WAS YOU. Some women never report crimes against them. Some report them but then are given reason to redact their statements. By money, or intimidation, or being made to feel that they're "making a bid deal out of it" or that it's "too much trouble."

This is what happened to the girl I used to work with, the one I got fired for. She didn't go to the police because she thought the whole ordeal would be too hard. And you know what, she's right, it IS hard.

I'm not 100% sure if this is true, but it sounds true, and if so, she retains her right to not want to pursue it. That doesn't mean he's automatically some kind of great guy. if it is true, he's the worst kind of POS.

While I know that women often don't report abuse, I also know that women are capable of lying to get back at men who leave them.

Michael Fassbender's ex-girlfriend dropped the charges against him. Also, at the time she applied for the restraining order, he was in another country, so that does make the circumstances seem suspicious.

Only the parties involved know what actually happened there. Michael Fassbender may very well be a horrible woman abuser, but there isn't enough evidence to convict the guy, therefore until I have more to go on than just a retracted complaint, filed months after the fact, I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt.

And yes, he is very talented. Amazingly so. Everyone should see his performance as Bobby Sands in Hunger, as well as his Rochester in Jane Eyre. Both were breathtaking.

Anonymous said...

You wanna know who I think is a creep and a POS? Tom Hardy. He left the mother of his child because he fell in love with his co-star in Wuthering Heights. I hate men who aren't capable of being faithful.

kapunua said...

Unfortunately, people break up. If you cut out everyone in your life who has strayed/broke up/fell in love with someone else at the "wrong time," you probably wouldn't be left with much. It's happened to my family, too.

Anonymous said...

I don't think you can call Tom Hardy a POS for breaking up with the mother of his child. It happens. It's unfortunate, but we don't know what went on between the two of them. We should not automatically blame Tom.

The same goes for Michael Fassbender. We don't know what happened between him and his ex, we can only speculate. That's why I give him the benefit of the doubt.

Anonymous said...

There's a big difference between giving someone the "benefit of the doubt" over a break up which happens to everyone, and giving someone the "benefit of the doubt" over putting a woman in the hospital, which there is proof of.

Are you suggesting that since "we don't know what went on between them" she somehow might have had it coming?

Anonymous said...

I just realized that Gerard has really long fingers.

Anonymous said...

Apparently Michael Fassbender and the woman who made the claims against him "hooked up" at a Golden Globes party a few weeks ago. Whatever happened between them, it doesn't seem like a healthy relationship to me.

Anonymous said...

It's sadly not unusual for women to go back time and time again to abusive, emotionally manipulating men. I hope she can break away and find someone who doesn't need to smack women around (or threaten to - hi, Gerard!) to feel big.

Anonymous said...

Are you suggesting that since "we don't know what went on between them" she somehow might have had it coming?

Not, not at all. What I'm saying is that there is no evidence that this woman was "put in the hospital" by Michael Fassbender. She had an ovarian cyst, which puts women in the hospital all of the time. He was out of the country when she filed the charges, and the whole thing does look suspicious.

I said that he may very well have done the things she said, but if you are always going to automatically assume that a man is guilty when a woman makes a charge against him, that's wrong. I don't know this woman, any more than I do Mr. Fassbender, and I don't have enough evidence to unequivocally say that he's guilty. Neither do you.

Lynn said...

I just realized that Gerard has really long fingers.

Long and slim signifies more of an emotional and aggressive type of person. That,or he has a pencil peter! LOL!

Anonymous said...

She had an ovarian cyst, which puts women in the hospital all of the time.

And I suppose she threw herself off the bed and burst her own ovarian cyst, did she? Stop defending a woman-beating idiot. Next you'll be telling us Gerard was 'just joking' when he threatened to beat a woman so bad he'd kill her.

Anonymous said...

Stop defending a woman-beating idiot.

You obviously have very poor reading comprehension skills. I'm not going to argue with you anymore, because you've already tried and convicted Mr. Fassbender.

Anonymous said...

And you're accusing a woman of 'making the whole thing up'. You're disgusting.

Anonymous said...

Because all women are perfect, and they never, ever lie.

Anonymous said...

Why the fuck would she lie about it? It's a pretty fucking random thing to happen on its own. Ovarian cysts don't just 'pop'.

Anonymous said...

Yes, yes, they do.

Anonymous said...

How can you assume the man is automatically guilty? None of us really know what went down between them-if anything happened at all.

Anyway, I looked her up on the net and found this article written about her. It is quite biased against her, to be fair. What really got me was the last sentence.

"either she suffers from a persecution complex - or else she genuinely brings out the worst in men."

Anonymous said...

um, hello? i've had an ovarian cyst rupture all on its own. hurts like satan, btw.

Anonymous said...

I don't think the article about Fassbender's girlfriend has any relevance. Her so-called "lurid past" has nothing to do with whether or not he beat her. I do think, however, that the fact that she withdrew the accusation immediately, and the fact that she was applying for a restraining order against a man who was on another continent making a film, puts her accusations in doubt.

Yes, it is possible that he paid her off. It's also possible that she was just looking for someone to pay her medical bills. We just don't know.

Anonymous said...

This article says that this woman filed the restraining order nine months after the incident occurred and that she was asking for $20,000.00 Hmm....

I usually side with the woman where domestic abuse is concerned, but this does look fishy. Sounds like she got the money and then wasn't afraid of him anymore.

I don't know about the Fassbender thing. I know that a lot of people on ONTD hate him and think he's guilty, but I'm on the fence.

As a female who wants to support other females, I want to think no woman would ever lie about something so serious, but I've had women do horrible things to me before for reasons passing understanding. In high school, a girl told horrible stories about how I had slept with two of the teachers at my school and that I'd gotten pregnant and had an abortion. Why? Because I was going out with her ex-boyfriend. Women can be just as horrible as men.

Women are capable of lying, cheating and being deceitful. Some women lie about being raped, beaten and abused. I just don't believe that woman saying she was beaten by Fassbender.

Anonymous said...

I agree, 7:10, and I think it's very sad, because those women who actually have been beaten, raped and abused have a hard enough time trying to get law enforcement and the courts to believe them. Women who would lie about such a thing just to get back at someone or to get attention are reprehensible.

I do, however, think it's very possible that Sunawin Andrews was lying. The situation just doesn't add up when you consider the timeline:

1)The alleged incident took place nine months before she filed the complaint.

2)Michael Fassbender was out of the country when she filed for an "order of protection".

3)She chose to file the complaint just as his career was beginning to take off and he was in the midst of a whirlwind of publicity.

4)She was asking for money to cover medical expenses she incurred nine months previously.

5)She withdrew the complaint within a couple of days.

Despite all of this, there's a possibility that the charges were legit, but I think there is more than enough reason for doubt. Until I have more to go on, I'm still going to watch Fassbender's films. He's amazingly talented and the most of the films he's in have been excellent.

kapunua said...

See, it's hard for me to say "Oh, that makes it look like she's lying!" because not a single day goes by when I don't wish I had filed charges against my ex-boss, and the people who started all that trouble. And that was years ago! But I still somehow feel like I let down women and feminism in general, by allowing them all to get away with it.

And because neither I nor any of the other girls pressed charges (the main girl it happened to was afraid her her father finding out,) we were accused of lying. You all remember that, I'm sure.

When someone has hurt you, those feelings come and go. Sometimes you're like, "Just let it go, it's in the past," and other times it's like, "RAGE, how can they have gotten away with that?" This is especially the case if you see the other party having some measure of success.

I can definitely see a person thinking, months down the road, "Now I have the courage to do this," and I can just as easily see that person deciding, "No, I don't."

Anonymous said...

I do remember what happened to you, Kapunua, and I am very, very sorry for it. However, I also remember that the person who was vindictive enough to get you fired was a female -- a despicable person that I could see doing almost anything to get back at someone that she perceived as having wronged her. I don't think she would be above making false accusations against a man who dumped her.

kapunua said...

Of course; women are just as capable of deceit, without a doubt! But I'm always wary when someone already has a "strike" against them as it were, especially with stuff like violence, racism etc. I don't want to invest any time (or any FANDOM time, hehe) in someone who's going to turn out to be some kind of abuser or sexist or racist. Maybe MCR taught me that, you know?

Which is sad, of course, if he didn't do anything. I'm just saying, I can see her reasoning if she was thinking "Yes I can do this, wait, no I can't."

Anonymous said...

I totally understand.

I admit, I don't know how I would feel about Fassbender if I hadn't already seen him in Jane Eyre and X-Men First Class before I heard anything about this incident (I heard about it late), and by that time, I'd already become enamored of his talent. I don't exactly stan for the guy, but I do think he's a fantastic actor.

kapunua said...

Women do lie. They lie for attention. They lie to protect their reputation. They lie for attention. They lie for money. They lie for attention. They lie so that their character is not called into question. They lie for attention. That's a fact. Women lie just like men lie and for many of the same reasons. Attention, attention, attention, passing the blame, ego, guilt, reputation, money, attention, money.

Any woman who does not recognize that fact is, in fact, a liar.

Any woman who does lie about things like sexual assault or rape should be ashamed of themselves and have to live with the fact that they are directly responsible for so many real victims not being believed and not pressing charges.

Today, a woman or man is not fired from her or his job without damn good legal liability reasons. Why? Because the employer can be sued for unfair dismissal on so many terms. If someone is fired from their job there's probably a damn good reason for it. Keep that in mind before deciding who is guilty of lies, misrepresentation or a crime and who isn't.

she’d been hanging out with a group of girlfriends when she accepted an invitation to get into his car.
After she returned, her pals were furious that she’d ditched them — so she made up the rape story to gain their sympathy.

As simple as that, a stupid 22-year-old cried rape and lied from beginning to end because her girlfriends were pissed off that she had abandoned them for a while.

The lie to her gal pals escalated out of control as she told the same fabricated story to policemen, doctors, and then throughout the whole court proceedings. Then she lived with that lie for 4 years. Now, for that crime of perjury she herself will serve jail time- from 1 to 3 years behind bars, although the prosecutor asked for 2 to 6.

She and any woman who lies about sexual assault and is fired from their job for spreading those lies around should get the maximum sentence allowed by the law. Three years isn't enough for destroying an innocent man's life.

They are the reason so many real victims don't report sexual assault and rape to the police.

Case after case of women who lie. Men can't be blamed for not believing every woman who says that she was raped. The women who have exaggerated about sexual assault and lied about being raped are the ones who should be blamed.

The Gresham woman who lied about being raped at Gresham Station last month will face two misdemeanor charges of initiating a false report, Gresham Police announced Friday.

When Danielle Elizabeth Hayes, 35, confessed to lying about being raped, she tried to craft another story and earned herself the second charge, said Officer John Rasmussen. She said she had not been raped by two strangers on July 25, but had been assaulted earlier that day by an acquaintance.

But investigators found that incident to be consensual after examining text messages.

Hayes initially reported that she had been raped by two strangers behind the Gresham Borders branch on July 25. Investigators began to doubt her story when she could not provide details of the crime or descriptions of the two men.

That's bullshit. Unless you have an employment contract, you can be fired for little or no reason at all. Look up "at will employment". I found out about this after being "laid off" when I became pregnant.

Look, why don't you just sign in?

You just can't get past this, can you? My boss said he did have a good reason for firing me: His exact words to me over the phone were, "Since she's not pressing charges it's your word against theirs. They have a lot of money and they're going to keep harassing me and it's just too much of a headache."

NY state law says that your boss can, in fact, fire you for any reason as long as it's not a bias one. He could fire me for my hair, how I dressed, because I like the color red, because he just plain didn't like me, and indeed, because he was "getting a headache."

Now of course, I could have (and sometimes think shoudl have) pursued this further. Maybe written to ACLU or something - I don't know. But the underage girl in question begged me not to. She said she knew her name would obviously come up, what had happened would get out, and her father would find out about it. That was her one big fear; she didn't want her Dad to know, because she said she knew he would get violent with the guy who had hurt her, and then her Dad would go to jail. She came to my house one night and begged me not to tell.

My boss knew this. He knew I was in a place where I actually couldn't do anything about it.

So, sign in, or shut your damn trap, you ignorant, sexist idiot.

kapunua said...

ANd also, YOU weren't there. You keep saying that I was lying about it, that all of us girls who put up with it were lying about it. The only reason you keep saying that is because you simply don't like me. You got mad. You admitted it. The whole "but all of you girls who worked there lied," is ridiculous, because, hello, you weren't there.

No, but keep trying to convince people of that, dumbass. You're gold.

Kapu, you're right, she was never there. To be convinced that you and your girl friends were lying shows what a nut job she is. She's a piece of shit and she's always had it in for you. She made no bones about that so it's obvious.

Hiya K, nice to see you again sweetie. Can't wait for the bestseller, this is the year.

When someone has hurt you, those feelings come and go. Sometimes you're like, "Just let it go, it's in the past," and other times it's like, "RAGE, how can they have gotten away with that?" This is especially the case if you see the other party having some measure of success.

This is a really good point. It's easy for an onlooker to say why didn't you do something about it straight away but unless something like this has happened to you, you'll never know at what point in time you felt ready to do something about it.

I also think is bad that women are willing to lie about being raped because if we get to a stage where police, the courts and jury encountering a rape allegation have to stop to think "Is this guy really guilty? Let's give him a lesser sentence just in case he's not", that's bad. Real rape is unforgivable and should get the death penalty in my opinion or at least life in prison. The lies about rape will end up belittling the sentences.

kapunua said...

Heya Misty, and thank you! LOL bestseller! We'll see about that, hehe. ;D

And I have to agree, you know. It's really the one place where I (wishfully) diverge from most other extreme liberals. If there was ever a way to truly, without a doubt, 100% convict someone, I'd be for the death penalty, too. And in some cases, it is a sure thing and there is no question about a person's guilt.

As far as death penalty for rapists, shoot, I'd carry that one out myself. Especially if children were involved.
