Denial of impact:
Denial of impact involves a person avoiding thinking about or understanding the harms their behavior have caused to themselves or others. By doing this, that person is able to avoid feeling a sense of guilt and it can prevent that person from developing remorse or empathy for others.
This is a really old link but it's pretty good and it reminded me of some of what people say here in defense of these people.
I think the same thing goes for misogyny and homophobia presented in these lyrics, comments and lifestyles too.

I saw the trailer for "Sing". It looks like they're spending some money on the videos to promote this album which means this album has to do well to pay back the record label. That explains the stupid toy set they're selling to fans.
Can anyone tell me how well MCR is doing with NaNaNa in the charts? Esp in the US charts?
As of last week, it wasn't in the Hot 100 on Billboard. It was at #24 in Rock Songs, and #10 on the Alternative Songs.

This song seems so contrived to me. I have not experienced one single rush of emotion listening to any of the songs from this record so far. That's always been the thing with MCR songs. They would touch something inside me and make me feel.
There isn't any of that with this record, at least not the songs I've heard so far. I think they've lost their ability to touch people, which is really the only thing they had going for them aside from Ray's guitar playing.
Too bad.
The trailer comes of like a Resident Evil movie. Lots of action and filler, but not much content. Perfect for a generation who finds fulfillment in video games, I suppose. Not much substance for the rest of us.

I'm really disappointed with what I've heard so far. Their new stuff has no soul, no meaning. It's just empty words strung together. I used to enjoy listening to their songs, it was like they had a story to tell back then. Not any more. I don't know what happened to them.

That was actually how I felt when I saw the video for I Don't Love you all those years ago. I was embarrassed for him with his ridiculous "acting" and pouty faces. And I even liked them back then.

Matt is still pretty tight with Worm and Brian. Maybe the band expected him to renounce them?

Techs don't usually have any kind of benefits at all. No insurance, sick time, nothing. After all he did for MCR, I think they owed him big time, but they probably never appreciated him at all.

I think they were all being so overly dramatic with all the 'disatahs' that happened on that tour. Other bands tour non-stop for years and don't have all the illnesses, cancelations, replacements, etc. Look at how long Green Day toured on American Idiot. KOL toured forever on OBTN and then went directly into the studio, made a new album and then started a major stadium tour even before the new record came out. They'll probably tour right up until they go back into the studio again.
MCR just doesn't seem to have the constitution it takes to be a hard working band.
You can't compare MCR to KOL, musically or otherwise. MCR is artsy and they like using concepts and costumes. KOL is just a straightforward blues influenced rock band. MCR has to put a lot more thought into costumes, presentation, etc. They're like night and day.
MCR were a lot older when they started out too. KOL were babies, and before they became a band they were always out on the road with their father. They don't know what it's like to have a home.
I like both bands, but they come from very different backgrounds. I think KOL has an unfair advantage when it comes to stamina. They're all athletic southern boys. MCR are New Jersey nerds who grew up playing D&D in basements. You can't expect them to go from that to living on the road.
I don't think MCR is sickly, except maybe Frank. I just think Mikey and Gerard are a couple of divas.

They even became the figureheads of the emo backlash, although they have repeatedly claimed they weren't part of that musical movement.
The brooding dark imagery of their last album The Black Parade fuelled the criticism as did their rabid fans.
So it's no wonder they took time out and are back with a new colourful look and a catchy single Na Na Na (Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na) - their most immediate tune to date.
Singer Gerard Way has dyed his hair pink from the stark blond he had for the last album and admitted he is in a happier place.
"Yeah, happier but I think in some odd ways more rebellious," he laughed. "In some ways the colour is more rebellious, even if it's self rebellion, there's no big, secret, hidden enemy.
"We're in our 30s and we're in a rock band and you see things start to happen with bands at that period of life. I think it was a rebellion against that, against being brought into that whole modern rock thing."
The band - Gerard, his bassist brother Mikey Way, guitarists Ray Toro and Frank Iero - lost drummer Bob Bryar this year.
But they are keeping their chins up before the release of new album Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys in November 22, preceded by the single on Monday.
It's a vastly different album than The Black Parade, which four years ago broke them in the UK. It went to No2 and sold more than 600,000 copies.

The album was huge in the States, selling 240,000 copies in its first week and spawning four hit singles.

It's been four years since Black Parade. Why so long? Mikey said: "I think the first year and a half we were away, we ended up taking a break.
"We had been on the road for a long time straight and were just tired and needed some time off. After that we got back together and started doing pre-production for the first attempt at the record.
"We spent a lot of time recording that and ended up scrapping it.
"The issue was that we went into it with one mindset and what we thought we wanted to do and by the end of it we didn't feel fulfilled.
"We didn't feel we had done our best work and we got together with Rob Cavallo, recorded Na Na Na and from there it was clear to everybody that we needed to do everything over again and better because by then the band was in a different place.
"We were in a different place creatively, energy-wise and we like to take our time and make sure everything's right and that's what took just crept its way just crept its way our lives .. almost our lives .. almost a little bit."
The more joyous approach to their music saw them going back to rock 'n' roll basics and slowly turned a band whose favourite colour was black into, well, their version of the Muppets.
Gerard grinned: "It just crept its way into our lives.
"And then every week someone would show up with something new that was colour, like, 'Oh I got these sneakers that are in colour,' and it kind of crept in almost like a virus into our lives.
"And then we had normal-looking wardrobes after a while."
The video to Na Na Na is a fast and furious cross between 1979's Mad Max and 1971 road movie film Vanishing Point.
It stars Scots comic book writer Grant Morrison and the band race around in a 1979 Pontiac Trans Am, firing guns and dressing up in cartoon costumes. Gerard, who wrote and originally illustrated 2007 comic book The Umbrella Academy, admitted he'd been working on the visuals to Na Na Na for years.
He said: "I really tried to inject everybody's personality into what they're wearing and even the guns that they were holding, everything down to the detail.
"I get to shoot and stuff and we're all running around and there was no acting classes.
"It was like, 'You need to do this.' And we just did it. We had one shot to get it because we only had one day to get all that stuff on video."
With Gerard in control and giving his all to the band, how was his Dunoon-born wife Lindsey (who goes by the name LynZ and is the bassist for Mindless Self Indulgence)?
The pair married three years ago and have a one-year-old daughter called Bandit.
"It's a lot of work and my wife is very understanding," Gerard said.
"She's an artist and I couldn't have done any of this without her support because we were getting home at 3am from making the record and then going straight to the art studio - it was rough on everybody."
And when he does have free time, he loves nothing more than relaxing with his girls.
"Sitting on the couch with Lindsay and watching a movie is the best way I can spend my spare time and hanging out with the baby. That's it."
Na Na Na isn't something his daughter said or a cover of the Kaiser Chiefs tune but joins those silly song titles like The Police's De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da or The Crystals' Da Doo Ron Ron.
Gerard said: "To give it a metaphorical or semi-poetic title would have gone against everything the song was about. It needed to be about the most base thing.
"To me, in spite of the fact the song is about something, it's really just saying 'na na na', which is really just white noise. It is also what the song is also speaking out against in a weird way."
The band showed off their upbeat new music at the Edinburgh Corn Exchange last month and are expected to be back in Scotland next year as part of a big arena tour - although don't expect any pre-gig rituals.
"We're not praying, no," said Gerard. "People think we're spiritual I think. I don't know why.
"We try to get the whole crew together and the band and do high fives before the show and just have a minute to say, "OK, we're ready to take the stage and do this.'"

we have three solid songs and one b-side from the album out now but so far, i can only tolerate NaNaNa (and that's because its catchy as fuck). mcr is not the band i used to know anymore. they used to have strong lyrics and memorable melody but now they've lowered themselves to msi's level.

NaNaNa doesn't stand up to repeated listens in my opinion. I don't like the part in the middle and after a while the repetitiousness of the chorus gets on my nerves. I think it will be the kind of song that gets on non-fans' nerves to the point where they turn off the radio when it comes on. The other tracks are just average, boring, nothing special stuff. MCR has lost whatever it was they used to have.

I was pretty meh about Na Na Na and The Only Hope, so after hearing people say good things about Sing, I thought maybe this was the song from the new album that would move me. I listened to it with an open mind and lots of hope. So much disappointment! Gerard's voice sounds electronically altered and the lyrics just sound tired and overused-like other songs I've heard that have had the same sentiment but have done it better.
