Why is it okay to call out African American musicians, but not white ones?

I was searching around a while ago for articles about misogyny and racism in music. I found a few of them and noticed a pattern. If you google "Misogyny in music" you will find a lot of links to rap and hip hop music.

Misogyny Set To Music calls out R Kelly.

Here's the Top 10 Misogynistic Rap Songs That Women Love, which calls out Lil Jon, Snoop, Yin Yang Twinz.

Chris Brown, Tyler the Creator and mostly other African American musicians are always, always getting called out.

Then, google "mindless self indulgence misogyny" and "mindless self indulgence racism" and what will you find? Nothing more than a bunch of white people defending the sexism and racism by saying it's "clearly ironic," "tongue in cheek," "Jimmy Urine says he's not a racist so obviously he's not" and "how can they be sexist with women in the band?" And my favorite, "MSI is reclaiming those social slurs."

So my question is, why is it acceptable for these white people to "reclaim slurs" and use slurs "in irony" but when an African American musician does it, there is a huge outcry?

I also notice that the people who post here are the only ones really calling out privileged white men like Frank Iero and Gerard Way on saying horribly racist and misogynistic things on Twitter. If an African American spoke like that on Twitter, what would the reaction be?

Words of compassion from Lindsey Way

"Fuck the tsunami. Who cares?"

Actual quote, people.

There's just no "context" in which this can be funny or even acceptable. If this classless idiot was actually famous, she'd be clamoring to make an official apology right away. But I think that people like this have probably never apologized for anything in their lives.

A few links

I followed a few links from a link someone posted here, to ONTD. From there, there was a discussion about MCR's racism and sexism with posts to a Tumblr that had the same views about them.

It is nice to see that people are finally catching up to everyone here.

So here are the links for you.

MCR link on ONTD discussing Frank and Gerard's disgusting behavior.

That led to a Tumblr post detailing Gerard's "I'd smash your face" threat. (I personally do not have a Tumblr so I don't know how to repost that. But anyone with a Tumblr, please repost.)

Frank's racism even made it onto Yahoo questions. Here.

So there you go, we are not the only ones out there willing to call bands out on their disgusting behavior.

Hope everyone has a nice spring time!

A funny pic for you guys.....

This is one for all of you who turned me on to Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

(It got cut off but it says "Every guy who is tired of hearing how cute and wonderful jgl is".)

I thought this was relevant to this blog's interests because "turning racist" (really misogynist) and/or getting involved with a racist band was obviously such a huge turning point, and was part of what created this blog and drawing everyone here. I also thought it was really funny.

But thank you JGL fans. For introducing me to a little movie called Brick. It was a masterpiece. I just watched Stop Loss recently and he was really good in that too.

Happy new year (sorry it's late) and I hope everyone is having a great year!
