Happy holidays

That last post is hard to scroll through but I hope some of you read it.

I decided to make a shorter post for easier access. This time just to wish you all a happy and safe holiday season. Congratulations to the women on this board who are pregnant.

Happy holidays to all of you and your families.

Regarding the comment on the previous post about private schools:

A child does not have to go to private school and a prestigious university. Both my kids went to public schools, made great grades and got scholarships to state universities. One has a great job and the other is in graduate school.

One of my friends has a son who went to private school and he didn't even get into university. He's currently going to a community college in hopes that he can transfer to a 4 year college after 2 years.

Also, you can't choose your child's education for him/her. He'll be whatever he chooses, and he'll decide where he'll go to college. That's just a fact parents have to learn to accept.

Last of all, good parenting is more important than spending lots of money on private school.

Hi guys, hope you all had a great TG. Me, I'm able to eat a bit more now so I was pretty happy that I got some stuffing and red cabbage!

5:38, I agree, and it's funny, Joe was on TV last night talking about college and he said the same exact thing. It's really not the college you go to, because each school has good and bad teachers and courses. It really is how much work you put into learning. The resources are there in community colleges, too. You just have to use them. Basically, he said that you get out of college whatever you put into it, and I agree with that.

James Bond movies have never been my type of thing but I will say Daniel Craig in or out of his Tom Ford suits

YUM

Anonymous said...

I prefer Ben Whishaw.

Or even Rory Kinnear. Yeah, he's not the best looking guy in the world, but talent to me is very sexy. So yeah. I'd love to see him get more movie roles. He's great on the stage. :)

Anonymous said...

Kapunua, I don't have a tumblr myself, but I go on yours sometimes. I'm answering your question about which movie to go see here.

I've seen both, and personally, I'd choose Cloud Atlas.

I didn't love Skyfall. I had high hopes going in, because I like Daniel Craig, and I love me some Judi Dench, Ben Whishaw and Rory Kinnear. Although the Bond brand has always been rife with misogyny, Dench's inclusion as M and Naomie Harris as a fellow agent gave me hope, but there was still a lot not to like, mainly the inclusion of an expendable "Bond girl" as merely a reason for Bond to have a sex scene. I didn't like how they handled Naomie Harris' character either. I just don't think Bond will ever be a film for feminists. On a side note, although Ben Whishaw was adorable as Q, he didn't get much screen time. I'd wait for the DVD and rent if I were you.

Cloud Atlas was not a perfect film, but the themes were compelling and the acting is brilliant. It's also very beautiful and should be seen on the big screen.

And then there's the Robert Frobisher/Rufus Sixsmith love story. It has been largely ignored by critics in their reviews (of course -- it's about two gloriously handsome British men in love), but everyone I know was enthralled by it. Warning though, it's extremely heartbreaking.

So. My two cents.

kapunua said...

Thank you, 12;31! I didn't know Rory Kinnear was in Skyfall too. He was also in The Hollow Crown with Ben Whishaw. All of which reenforces my sincere believe that there are 25 actors in all of Great Britain.

See that was my concern about a Bond movie, too. I've never seen any of the old ones, and I have a feeling those older ones would make me super uncomfy. But I thought, Hmm, Daniel Craig has said and done some pretty decent things on behalf of women's rights - so maybe this would be different?

On a funnier note, part of the reason I was hesitant to see Cloud Atlas was because I'd heard it was really long, and I literally have to pee every 20 minutes. ^_^

Anonymous said...

I prefer Ben Whishaw

I prefer Daniel Craig

And it's not about the way he looks (even though he has a great bod)

Just something about him :)

Anonymous said...

Daniel Craig looks like a fish. I mean, he does have a great bod, but that face... *shudder*

Anonymous said...

He's smart and apparently he has a fantastic sense of humor.

Those qualities are very seductive to me. And the bod in those suits helps a bit too ;

Kapunua have you felt the baby yet? :)

Anonymous said...

I liked Daniel Craig in Layer Cake. He was better looking back then. Of course Tom Hardy was in that one too, and so was Ben Whishaw.

kapunua said...

2:53, I haven't yet. And it's nearly 4 months! And still not showing either. The doctor said that with girls who are really tall, sometimes it takes a little longer. :)

5:53 - Ben Whishaw was in that? What was he, 12? I'll have to re-watch it because I was so busy scanning every scene for Tom Hardy! ^_^

Anonymous said...

I didn't show until the end of my fifth month then BANG!

Anonymous said...

I didn't feel anything until then either but now if I play any house based music or classical music, he gets really excited.

Must like the beats ;

Anonymous said...

Ben Whishaw was hilarious in Layer Cake. He played Sidney, The Duke's idiotic nephew -- you know, the one who was dating Sienna Miller's character before Daniel Craig stole her away? He really did not look like himself and it was great to see him play a role so unlike anything else I've ever seen him do.

But anyway, that kind of reinforces what you said earlier, Kapunua, about the same English actors always turning up in every film. For example, Voldemort and Narcissa Malfoy were both in Skyfall. And it was really weird to see Richard II and Bolingbroke on the same team (Whishaw and R.Kinnear). ;)

Anonymous said...

If you get the chance you should watch Ben Whishaw in Criminal Justice (I think you can still stream it on Netflix). He really does seem about 12 in that.

Anonymous said...

You have quite a crush on him 4:02.

Anonymous said...

Have you seen him in Bright Star?

Anonymous said...

The doctor said that with girls who are really tall, sometimes it takes a little longer. :)

Sometimes it depends where the baby is implanted in your uterus.

You may be carrying more in the back and may never look very big, whereas some girls carry more in the front and it's more prominent.

Anonymous said...

I don't have a crush on Ben Whishaw. I just think he's amazingly talented. Okay, so maybe I do have a bit of a crush, but it's not the same as oh, say... Tom Hardy. If you know what I mean.

I have seen Bright Star. So sad. :(

Anonymous said...

Tom Hardy - smart and sexy!

Anonymous said...

So many British actors are hotties. Brawn and brains :)

Anonymous said...

Ewan McGregor. Talented and gorgeous. Gets better as he gets older.

Anonymous said...

Speaking of Scots... there's also James McAvoy. He was so good in Atonement.

Anonymous said...

And yes to Ewan McGregor. :)

Anonymous said...

Ben Whishaw although talented I don't consider him sexy. His hair is too curly.

kapunua said...

10:53 - Truth! In face, I'm one of those gals with a retroverted uterus. Maybe that's why!

Tom Hardy: Hot as hell, and from what people say, the nicest guy in the world. Also, rumor has it that he smells really good. Everyone who meets him says that he's very clean and smells delicious. I WANT TO SMELL TOM HARDY.

Ewan McGregor: My Forever Husband. I love him.

Ben Whishaw: I've only seen him in The Hollow Crown and while I didn't find him sexy, he was amazing. I like curly-haired boys but I wouldn't say I had a crush.

Same with JGL. Although he is a knockout and I love his curly hair, it's not a "crushy" type thing.

Anonymous said...

I kind of fell in love with Ben Whisaw in Criminal Justice. So many bad things happened to him, and he was just so young and defenseless. I wanted to make everything better for his character.

Personally, I love his hair. It's rather glorious looking, and truth be told, I'm quite jealous of it.

Anonymous said...

Or maybe two!

Anonymous said...

I saw Skyfall and I had major problems with it. I don't want to spoil anyone, but there was definitely misogyny and possible even rape culture issues.

First and foremost, there was the question of consent between Bond and Severine. Considering her past and how frightened she was of Silva, the sex scene was handled inappropriately, to say the least.

To me the message in this film was clear. Women are sex objects. They are expendable and/or incompetent. They are there to have sex with Bond and then conveniently get killed. Or they can live and be relegated to a "desk job" (translation: secretary).

I just wish I could get my two hours and $19 bucks back.

kapunua said...

^ Kinda why I've always avoided Bond films. I was reading something on Tumblr that said there was some switching of gender roles in this movie and that it was more woman-friendly than past ones, but I'm not so sure.

Oh a different note, $19 for a movie? HOLY DAMN. Wow, that's a lot!

7:56, oh my, I've got 3 husbands too, and a number of boyfriends. Ewan McGregor of course, Jared Leto, Tom Hardy... yes, I used to be married to Joaquin Phoenix, but then he went a little nutty for a while.

Of course, Tom Hiddleston is still fabulous too! I love his Twitter. So sweet. In fact, he is so nice that I sometimes wonder if he's got a dark secret, like bodies hidden in his back yard or something.

Anonymous said...

The more the merrier I say Kapunua! I mean 3 husbands and a few boyfriends is being a bit conservative :)

Life of Pi > Cloud Atlas. In the age of video games, human disconnection, and apathy it's nice to movies with strong spiritual messages making a comeback. Both are great movies. Pi is the greater.

Anonymous said...

The spiritual message I took away from Life of Pi was that you can choose how you want to believe in a god or gods. It's completely up to the individual.

Anonymous said...

Exactly. Pi was born into a Hindu family then choose to follow Christianity and Islam as well. He got something from each religion. He saw value in them all.

Congratulations William and Kate. Boy or girl the heir to the throne will be beautiful. Beautiful parents make beautiful babies.

That poor baby in China. I hope she never finds out that her dad sued her mom for giving birth to the ugliest baby he ever saw. It's unbelievable that he won that lawsuit.

Anonymous said...

I think Life of Pi makes a pretty good case that religion is all made up. Isn't that essentially what the plot is all about? You chose which story you want to believe is true.

I don't believe in religion myself, and that's what's right for me.

Anonymous said...

Congratulations William and Kate. Boy or girl the heir to the throne will be beautiful. Beautiful parents make beautiful babies.

Not necessarily. It could look like its grandfather or great aunt. Genes don't always combine in ways one might expect.

Regardless, looks aren't everything. Let's all just hope the child is healthy. That's the most important thing.

Anonymous said...

and so it goes with God 5:45

In a letter directly to Martel, Barack Obama described Life of Pi as "an elegant proof of God, and the power of storytelling"

"Which is the better story?"

"The one with the animals."

"And so it goes with god."

The point is, you choose the story.

As far as names, I'm really struggling. I really like Rilind. And I also really like Rin, though I know those are kind of unusual and I don't want to saddle him with anything too out of the world.

Middle name is James for my Dad. ^_^

How's everyone else doing?

Welshie, you around?

Anonymous said...

I tend to agree with you about not saddling children with something too different and individualistic because it may seem "cool" when they are young, but they have to wear it at 40, 60, 80 and maybe beyond, so I think it should be something that fits all ages and cannot be defined by the era you were born in. But that's just my opinion on the subject.

I like names you mentioned.

Anonymous said...

Not showing, no kicking, boobs the same size

Don't worry Kapunua, you will in time. And you will probably initially feel flutters and as the baby grows in size, you will feel the kicking more prominently.

I'm just astounded by the size tits actually grow, never thought they would become this big. I mean massive, like huge knockers.

Hey Kapunua! My boobs hardly grew during pregnancy, and they weren't big to begin with. When my milk came in they grew a bit, but not hugely. I think everyone is different. Well, indeed they are!

I didn't feel any fluttering or early kicks until 18 weeks. It is lovely when you do feel that. Reassuring. Then the hiccups and kicks follow. And then the full on alien limbs and heels moving under the skin thing! Freaky!

Good luck with everything.

My boss said hers never even grew. Like, (TMI) if they're small, they might not get any bigger no matter what. And I'm like, "Hey! I was promised cleavage!" ;D

Anonymous said...

It does Kapunua. I wasn't aware until my one of my friends reassured me the same thing happened when she was carrying her daughter, who was her first child.

Anonymous said...

But I don't think it happens to everyone in pregnancy.

Anonymous said...

I think it also has to do with your genetic makeup. For some women their boobs grow large, others don't. Some women develop the pigmentation line down the belly. I didn't. Everyone is different.

We were going to name one of our twins James. James and Janeen. We decided on the names about 2 weeks after we found out that we were having twins. A boy and a girl.

I got pregnant on his birthday weekend in August. He was thrilled. We had been engaged for 4 months . We dated for over a year before getting engaged. We were so excited to begin our life together with our son and daughter. We bought a house. Painted the nursery half blue and green and half pink and yellow.

I was 4 1/2 months along when i lost them. Just a couple of weeks after Christmas. We were held up at gun point on New Year's Eve and my Dr said that the trauma could affect me, the twins and cause a miscarriage in up to 2 weeks. It did. I'd never seen so much blood before my miscarriage. It looked liked someone had been slaughtered in our bathroom .

James and Janeen died before they were even born. 2 weeks after Christmas. A few months after that the relationship ended. We couldn't deal with it. Him picturing Janeen looking like me and me picturing James looking just like his dad. The stuffed animals we bought for them. The booties and bibs with their initials. The loss was too great.

The nursery was never slept in. The house was sold. The toys were donated.

There is no pain like the pain of losing your babies.

See, I don’t understand the point of their so called prank. Where is the humour in making a call to find out Kate’s medical condition? Was it their dodgy uppercrust British accents? I just don't get it.

And, how do you know you're not raising the mass murderer? What goes wrong?

Those poor families. What unimaginable, unfathomable anguish. Nothing worse than that in the world.

Last night I found out that one of my good friends, whom I've known since '95, died in an accidental overdose / mixing up of prescription pills. She was only 45. Doctors don't even check to see what else you're on. That's what happened to my Gran, too.

Okay, this sounds funny. Someone tell me what happened between these morons?

Anonymous said...

And OPj was anonymously sending condolences to herself. What was she whining about this time?

Anonymous said...

Okay, this sounds funny. Someone tell me what happened between these morons?

^God you are just so damn rude about people, aren't you.

Merry Christmas/ Happy Holidays everyone. :)

Anonymous said...

It's not rude, it's truth. They are morons. Merry Christmas to you too.

Hiya guys, how are you all?

I hope you all had a brilliant Crimbo *nods to K*

I hope you are all stuffed from all the goodies you have eaten.

Have a fantastic New Years guys and keep eating the goodies, the diet starts next week xxxxx

I want to see pictures of all the baby goodies the expectant moms got. Cribs, craddles, car seats, strollers, baby gyms and whatnot. That's what expectant moms get for Xmas. Pressies for them and baby.

Anonymous said...

Really. Expectant moms don't get video games or the newest Game Boy or Playstation. They get adorable mom and baby stuff. That's what Christmas is all about. Children. The love of a mother and father for their child. Wanting to protect and help them and keep them safe. To give them things that make them happy. They're a baby and toddler for such a short time. It should be a time all about them, their growth, and their happiness. No excuses and no me. It has to be all about them. The children.

Gotta love the trolls.

Gotta love kids. Unless your like Adam Lanza.

"Gotta love the trolls"

WTF?

What the fuckin' fuck?

Anonymous said...

What mom to be hasn't received gifts for her baby pre birth? Hello. Baby shower? anyone. Really.

Anonymous said...

My guess is she won't be receiving the blue ribbon for best 1st time mom. Not if she calls everybody who puts their child first a troll.

Anonymous said...

Maybe the anonymous sperm donor that is the biological father can sue for custody.

Anonymous said...

I bet he would welcome a car seat and a crib.

Anonymous said...

I know plenty of fathers who give about as much of a shit about their kids as anonymous sperm donors do.

Anonymous said...

Baby showers are for baby presents.

Moms who give up their lives for their children are doormats.

Anonymous said...

Those are horrible fathers not worthy of ever being called a dad. Much like any parent who doesn't put their child's needs before their own wants.

Things change when you become parent. Selfishness must be put aside. You don't ask for things for yourself. You ask for things for your child.

Anonymous said...

You're not a mom are you 9:08? No mother would ever consider giving up her life for her child to be anything other than natural. That's not being a doormat. That's being a parent. Just ask any of the Sandy Hook parents if they wouldn't have given their lives for their children.

Not one. Not one would say no. That's what being a parent is all about. It's selfless, unconditional love. It's sacrifice. If you don't get that you don't deserve the privilege of being a parent.

Anonymous said...

You're not a parent, are you, 9:11?

If you don't take care of your own needs, you will not be emotionally available for your children. Also, if you have a spouse, he won't accept it if you only have time for the kids. Being a mother is a balancing act, much like anything else.

Your simplistic way of looking at things is a recipe for failure. Or the rantings of a troll.

Anonymous said...

Your simplistic excuse is failure. Find one mother who wouldn't give her life for her child and then come back here and post your nonsensical rantings.

Are you saying you are one of those mothers? You would let your child die to take care of your own needs?

Anonymous said...

^That.

Ridiculous. 9:16 Troll knows nothing about parenting.

Anonymous said...

Lol, I am a mom, and a very successful one, 9:16. I have one grown child and another in high school. Both are well-adjusted and happy.

Yes, being a parent involves sacrifice. But my kids love that I have interests of my own outside of them. Parents whose very existence revolves around their children are often very ineffective parents.

Of course I would give my life for my children if that was necessary. But will I give up my identity as a human being just because I'm a mother? Hell no.

Now go twist that into something it's not. Troll.

Anonymous said...

We can only hope she's been sterilized. She would probably sell her child for 3 magic beans and a loaf of bread if she was hungry.

Anonymous said...

No one said you should give up your identity, troll. Only that once you become a parent your child comes first.

Now, go back and reread or go twist someone else's comments. Damn trolls.

Anonymous said...

Yep. Can't have a serious convo with a troll.

Anonymous said...

Don't feed the trolls. Ignore the ignorance of 9:08 and 9:25.

Anonymous said...

"Moms who give up their lives for their children are doormats.

You think that Seriously? Seriously? LOL
What an anti feminist ass wipe.

Anonymous said...

All you stay at home mom's are nothing but doormats!

What a load of bullfuck.

Anonymous said...

You have to forgive them for their ignorance 9:35. They don't have more than 2 functioning brain cells to rub together.

kapunua said...

Trolls with horrible grammar and spelling, naturally.

I am happily playing Resident Evil 6 throughout this pregnancy. ^_^

But by far, my favorite christmas gift this year was the new crack pipe. My old one was getting a little used up.

Anonymous said...

Damn. Michelle Obama is going to heartbroken when she hears that she's nothing but a doormat.

Anonymous said...

lol

Anonymous said...

Stop feeding your trolls Kapunua. They annoy the hell out of everyone.

Anonymous said...

They annoy the hell out of anyone trying to have an intelligent conversation.

Anonymous said...

They don't care about that. They only care about calling other people trolls when they're the ones trolling.

Anonymous said...

How much does an injection of sperm that doesn't come naturally during sex cost?

kapunua said...

I did want a new bong though and I didn't get it.

Today, aside from the sin of enjoying myself with a hobby I've had since childhood, I think I'll jump on a trampoline for a while, go swimming with the sharks, and eat some raw fish.

Come to think of it, I probably could get some money for the baby if it came to that. I hear they go for a few thousand these days. Imagine all the drugs and video games I could buy with that!

Anonymous said...

That's outrageous. My boyfriend could make over a grand a week from just what he uses on me.

kapunua said...

9:17 - To answer your question, they're trolls. We know exactly who they are. Most of them don't have children and never will (which is fine.) One of them might.

They have no idea what they're talking about, but they're just trying to get people worked up by prodding at things they think are sensitive subjects. When you really break down what they're saying, it's pretty hilarious.

So just have some fun with them. It's a boring Sunday, after all. :)

Anonymous said...

He'd have to be willing to have his DNA spread around to God know who 9:51. Most intelligent men aren't willing to do that. Usually it's men who are desperate for money. Like the people who give blood for money once a month.

kapunua said...

As far as what sperm costs--if that was a serious question--it's about $600. Seriously makes you re-think every chucked condom in the past, you know? LOL!

But the donors don't see much of that money, unfortunately. A lot of the money goes to "rinsing" the sperm, getting rid of white blood cells and things like that, and also shipping it. Because it has to stay frozen.

I had an offer for "fresh" sperm as it were, but in the end, it wasn't worth it to me because I didn't want that kind of commitment in my life. Also because with a donor, I know his exact medical history and his family's medical history. He's been tested for everything under the sun and then some, not just stds, but genetic diseases that most people don't even know they carry.

My donor is also open to meeting any potential child, if the child decides he wants that later in life. A lot of women choose to keep the donor anonymous, but I wanted that to be the kid's choice and not mine. Everyone thinks differently on that.

So it's kind of expensive, but honestly the most expensive is all the fertility monitoring. Me, I did that at home to save a bunch of dough, and I just got super lucky. ^_^

Anonymous said...

What the fuck is she talking about? Anybody know.

Anonymous said...

I think she was artificially inseminated if that's what you're asking. She paid to get knocked up.

Anonymous said...

No and eww. I was asking about the comment at 9:51. Eww. TMI.

Anonymous said...

"She paid to get knocked up."

lol

kapunua said...

^ See, exactly. They don't really want to talk about anything. It's like I said. We know who they are, they're afraid to sign in after all of these years, and they're basically overgrown children in big bodies. Offer them some intelligent honesty, and they want nothing to do with it.

So it's better to just have fun with them. :) Now! Back to my Xmas crack pipe!

Did she use a turkey baster? lulz

Raising a child without a father, a male around the house? That's what's wrong with this country.

Anonymous said...

So... lesbian couples shouldn't have children 10:05? What about gay male couples? Or is it OK with you as long as men are involved?

Anonymous said...

I have a serious question. Are you a lesbian Kapunua? Because most women who choose to go through AI are lesbians.

Anonymous said...

So says you and Bill Cosby 10:05.

kapunua said...

10:08, nope, I'm not, but I do know a handful of lesbian women who did decide to do the same thing. The ones I know are also single. That's because we are all single mothers by choice. (There's a web site.)

It's really cool actually, I just found out that there's a sperm lab run by women, geared towards lesbian women and/or couples. I think that's pretty cool.

You can buy a kit and do it at home, or with a friend, or whatever you choose. But I decided to let the doctor do it because at-home ones aren't usually as successful, and it's so expensive that I figured, why waste a month? :)

Anonymous said...

I'm not 10:05 but it's OK with me as long as 2 loving parents are involved and a strong male and a strong female figure is involved in the life of the child.

Anonymous said...

Children do need both male and female roll models in their lives.

kapunua said...

And I think statistically, it's not mostly lesbian women using AI, although they certainly do use it if they decide that they want to have a biological child. A lot of hetero married couples try it, if the husband has either infertility or some genetic problem. And thousands of single women, too. It's pretty much across the board.

Interestingly, women can also donate their eggs to infertile women! And not only that, but some women who do in vitro and have fertilized zygotes left over choose to donate them - or even put them up for a kind of "adoption" for women hoping to get pregnant.

It's all pretty cool.
