Women's rights! Real feminism...

Women's Rights at Change.org.

I thought you all might like this web page. I guess this isn't much of an MCR related post (they bore me to tears) but maybe it is, seeing as MCR have done a 180 (to quote a person who recently posted here) especially on feminism. (Also obviously on racism, homophobia etc...)

Next time you're getting mad at Lyn-Z because of her talking about how it's OK for chicks not to be really talented, how her flashing her panties is an inspiration to female musicians, or you're getting mad because of how Gerard treated his female fans, you can visit this page and see that there are people out there still fighting this kind of behavior!

You're from a different culture alright, a culture where apparently everyone needs to get a fucking clue and come back when they can actually back their shit up with some sense.

Anonymous said...

When did this turn into the Lyn-Z blog?

As far as I can tell, most of the negative comments here are directed at Gerard Way and his bandmates. Yes, Lindsey gets brought up and so do other members of MSI, so why are we endlessly debating the fairness of the comments that are made about her?

Anonymous said...

Yeah, "let's not argue about racism because I don't want to expose myself as a clueless white idiot any more than I already have".

Anonymous said...

Yeah, "let's not argue about racism because I don't want to expose myself as a clueless white idiot any more than I already have".

No, lets not argue about racism because there is nothing to argue or debate about, I think everyone here would agree that it is wrong.

Anonymous said...

Yes, but some people apparently think it's their place to continue to dictate how and when POC get offended at words once used to justify lynchings being thrown around by Lindsay's friends while she laughs along.

Anonymous said...

I think the N-word debate is bigger than this blog and the idiots in MSI. It's so controversial there is no 'acceptable' usage of it anymore.

Anonymous said...

Just a heads up, I believe the person insinuating VV was fat was illustrating how stupid it was to throw comments like that one around when you clearly don't know anything about said person. Is VV fat? Who knows and honestly, who cares?

Okay, I've read a lot of comments tonight and might have skipped some or have forgotten about some already, so would somebody point out that comment on this blog entry to me in which anyone called someone in MCR or MSI fat?

All MCR and MSI fans are now fataphobes too? Why because of one comment about Crisps? Any other blanket statements and personal judgements you'd like to add on?

Hello pot, I'd like to introduce you to kettle.
If you accuse all of us here of generalizing then you should have better refrained from doing so yourself in your post. It makes you look hypocritical.

Calling somebody fat here on a blog is just as stupid as changing a person's name to Dim or Retard just to illustrate that you believe they are not bright.

I don't believe that they're stupid. I know it! I only have to watch or read their interviews to see that they're both as dumb as a box of rocks.

Btw, I think my invention of the nickname Dim-Z was pure genius.
Artistic even! I consider myself an artist now. Who's to say that I'm not?!

You know nothing about these people, how they care for their child, how they live, how they are as people?

I know enough to have an opinion and my opinion is that they are attention whores who could manage it for a short time to capture the interest of a lot of people by telling lies and pretending to care for causes they actually don't give a shit about and therefore shouldn't be surprised to be called out by us as long as we feel like it.

The funny thing is that neither of you people who come here and defend them - may it be because you are fans or just want to play devil's advocate - know them any better than we do here. How do you know how they are spending their time? How can you know that neither of those people we talk about here are part of a social community on the internet in which they're talking about whatever subject there may be?

Who knows if Lindsey isn't part of a private blog/community called Die, Eliza! Die!?

Gerard might be an anonymous blogger with the name smelly pants who blogs about Kasabian being the shittiest band in the world and that the singer looks soooo fat and is just uglier as the world could ever be?

Who knows if Frank's not posting spiteful comments on things related to Marilyn Manson on the internet?
Oops, I forgot! We know he does.

They have no time for that, you say? They know better things to do with their time, you say?
Well, think again!
First of all, I think it's so funny when people on the internet tell other people on the internet that they have no life!
Comedy gold!!!
I also find it funny if people think that commenting on here would be so time consuming that we aren't able to get other things done in life anymore. As if you are glued to the computer/notebook/cell phone/whatever device you're on the internet with that you can't do something else while being online and that there is no such thing as a high-speed internet access but that it still takes half a day for a site to load and that the rest of the day is used to type in the letters for a sentence since we all only have two fingers to write.

I don't think that I'm more vile or hateful than the people we are discussing on this blog. Song lyrics, tweets, stage antics and interviews are proof for that.

Anonymous said...

What they say in interviews or how they express themselves musically could all be some clever (or in your opinions) not so clever ruse or marketing scheme to win over America's disaffected youth. Seems to have worked so far.

It would have been clever if they had chosen to keep on the mask of the white knights who galloped on the scene and wanted to save people's lives and get rid of the sexism and homophobia in rock 'n' roll music but since Gerard is choosing a different persona every other week and dragging along his apparently spineless bandmates while doing so it didn't take that long for people to find out that their marketing scheme was in fact just that.

Even if you are not a fan of their music you have to admit they are living in our modern society as artists, which only very few people can do.

Every asshole and their mother can live like that nowadays. Do I really have to mention the likes of Paris Hilton, Kim Kardashian or any other reality tv show scum that mostly earns a lot more money per day than the 'artists' in MCR/MSI do in a whole month? In our modern society everyone can be an artist and everyone can be a celebrity.

Again , I say to you. Why bother reading articles in which these people are quoted? You come here day after day to pick apart people you claim to think are not artists. Wouldn't the intelligent choice be to just ignore them?

Yes, discussing sexism and other ways of discrimination is not intelligent. What a wonderful calm place the world could be if everyone would just mind their own business and keep their traps shut about injustice, discrimination and disparity in general, right? Just look the other way and pretend you haven't heard or seen anything. That's the best thing to do.

Also, I think I mentioned it here before a few times; this blog is not only a place to discuss but it's also a wonderful tool to chronologically record the brainless shenanigans of MCR and the lot.

Perhaps VV isn't fat but most certainly thick headed to create a place just to ramble (FOR YEARS) about people she claims to think are pseudo feminists, racists, or bad parents. You don't see me making a blog about Sarah Palin whom I find reprehensible. It would be a waste of time, just like (in my opinion) this place is a waste of time.

What's it to you why Verita created this blog and how long it already exists? You think it's a waste of time but you're obviously interested enough to waste your time to get involved in this blog's discussion.
If you want to make a blog about Sarah Palin then do it. You could change someone's opinion with it and inspire people to (re)think (about) their political views. You could give people a place to discuss. A place which gives people the feeling that they're not alone with their opinions about Sarah. A place to vent. What's so bad about that? People use blogs to have an outlet, to talk about what's going on in their mind, what they love, what they hate etc. etc. I pity you if you really think that writing a blog on whatever subject is a waste of time. And yet you are here reading a blog and comment on it. Hmm...

I think it's great to make a blog about people and things you find reprehensible. Lots of people do it.

Just because you think that speaking out against these issues is a "waste of time" doesn't mean that everyone has to think so.

Not to add fuel to the fire but MSI use of the "N" word was a cover of a Method Man song. In order to put a cover on a record you have to get the original artists permission. Before anyone suggests he did it for the money, "bring the pain" was on their first album, on an indie and there was no opportunity for much financial gain. And yes that would be gross to sell your song to a bunch of racists no matter how big the pay off.
Method Man cleared it. He was not offended. CONTEXT IS EVERYTHING. White people who (hate MSI anyway and want ammunition) call them racists. I have never heard an African American call them racists. hmmmmmmmmm.

Anonymous said...

I've never heard of any black people who listen to or even know about MSI. And I recall them using the N word in one of their own songs besides that cover, the song title escapes me though.

No, what's so strange is that you care so much what we think.

Anonymous said...

MSI were nothing but an obscure, blimp on the punk radar with a cult following, who where just thrown into prominence by the marriage of those two idiots.

Anonymous said...

But black artists use the N word??

Anonymous said...

I don't really care that much about MSI and what they do. So far as I can tell, they are on infinite hiatus with no plans to write a new album or go out on tour. I don't come here to talk about them anyway.

In my opinion, the issue at hand is MCR and their fake stance on, well, just about everything.

I think all of this defense of Lindsey is just intended to derail people's attention away from the MCR's hypocrisy.

Anyone here remember Frank's twitters about abortion jokes and women getting punched in the mouth? I don't see what MSI's lyrics or some lame debate about third wave feminism has to do with that.

The band is made up of a bunch of douchebags. Yeah, Gerard may have married into another bunch of douchebags, but they don't interest me. MSI is not relevant right now because they've disappeared. MCR may not be all that relevant, but at least they are getting ready at some point (or so they keep telling us) to release a new record. They have always been the main focus of this blog. As far as I'm concerned, MSI no longer exists.

Anonymous said...

Re: the N-word debate. I think saying POC are allowed to use it because it's liberating, and then complaining when other races use it (non-maliciously) sends an unclear message. It's almost akin to women saying that feminism is all about freedom of choice, and them complaining everytime Lyn-Z chooses to flash her panties.

Do I think MSI are thoughtless idiots, trying to be shocking just for controversy's sake? Yes. Do I think that are genuinely malicious racists? No.

Anonymous said...

What is the general opinion between those on this blog about The Black Parade promoting/glamorising suicide?

Is that what you really think it did?

Anonymous said...

I don't think TBP did that at all, but apparently some people (I'm talking to you, Daily Mail) tried to say it did.

I think it's fair to say that most of us here think that notion was ridiculous.

Anonymous said...

I never thought it glamorised suicide, just death in general.

Anonymous said...

Is that what you really think it did?

Not at all, but there were those that thought it did, and there was a big fuss about it for a while. The Daily Mail (a British newspaper) did write an article attritubuting a young girl's suicide to the band.

I actually think The Black Parade was a mixture of black humour and, beneath it all, a message of hope and determination. I think those that say it's depressing and suicide-inducing missed the point entirely.

Just thoguht it would make for a less heated and less personal debate, it's not something I've really seen discussed here before.

I actually had no problem with MSI until I started to learn more about them. I actually remember my friend pointed out to me what the lyrics involved on day, and I was disgusted. There is no reason or excuse for this kind of language that doesn't validiate the point of this blog: that MSI and their ilk are displaying racist, homophobic, sexist and misogynistic behaviour and associating it with a band (MCR) who have always fought against those things.

MCR didn't have to take MSI on tour with them, support them, and start to base their stage-shows on MSI's. But they did, and people are pissed. And when Lindsay tries to defend herself and her role in it, she looks like an ignorant idiot, much like Amanda Palmer.

As someone who has attended several MSI shows, plenty of African Americans were in attendance. MSI is not racist. Sorry.

Let me guess, some of your best friends are black, too?

Anonymous said...

As someone who has attended several MSI shows, plenty of African Americans were in attendance. MSI is not racist. Sorry.

I don't understand how this should be a valid point why MSI aren't racist? There are also plenty of girls and women attending shows of 'artists' who sing or rap misogynistic lyrics and (unfortunately) don't mind them at all.
It's all a matter of a sense of self-worth or in this case self-loathing. Just because a black person doesn't mind being called a nigger or enjoys to listen to lyrics in which black people are referred to as such doesn't make it right or any less racist and offensive for other black people.

There will always be people in the world who don't mind being treated like shit. Whether it's because they never learned from their parents and/or surroundings to respect and love themselves or they're just too stupid to realize that with their ignorance they're only supporting the people who hate them and want to keep them down.

Anonymous said...

I agree, I think MSI lyrics are disgusting.

^This. Just kinda shows how much GW is trying to suck up to MSI.

Also, I happened to come across the MSI twitter page again: http://twitter.com/msi They're following Gerard, Mikey, and Ray. (Pfft. So much for Lyn-Z not wanting to be known as Mrs.Way.) When I saw it last, they were following the MCR twitter + Frank too. Hmm...

I don't think TBP glamorized death.

I felt it was more of a celebration of life. Like black parades are meant to be.

The message of hope is that we all carry on. Even after the tragedy of losing a loved one.

Even after death a part of us remains and goes on.

Yes, but whatever it did mean, I suppose that's all irrelevant now. Gerard said he was "playing it safe" and "pandering to the audience" on that album. He also said that this new record will make everything they've done before it irrelevant.

So... I guess it's good that it still means something to some people, but I can't really take it seriously anymore if the person who wrote it doesn't.

Anonymous said...

I can understand how TBP could have been thought of as 'pandering to the audience' but I fail to see how creating a record of such epic preportions and which was so far away from their previous outings was 'playing it safe'. The negativity they recieved from many music critics highlights that.

I saw the Cure a couple of years back and they played the most amazing set because they had so many incredible records to draw from. Robert Smith sang for three hours straight and probably would have kept going only during the third encore he declared, "I'm sorry, but I just can't sing anymore," in his delightful accent.

MCR will never be able to do that kind of show if they keep disowning their previous material. I think that says a lot about their potential longevity (or rather, lack of it).

I fail to see how Gerard is jumping on the Gaga bandwagon just because he said he liked one song; Bad Romance was played by chance while he was talking, most likely just conversationaly, to an interviewer. I don't think he had that much control over what was printed. I don't see all the hype about Lady Gaga anyway. Her music and image is no where near as progressive as she wants it to be, or thinks it is.

Unless you meant Gaga has jumped on the Robert Smith bandwagon, in which case disregard my comment. Well, except for the last bit. I stand by that.

Well, Lindsey likes Gaga, but Amanda Palmer and Chantal Claret have had less than wonderful things to say about her (Amanda criticized the product placement in her videos and Chantal agreed with some other guy who said her music wasn't all that great, lacked melody, etc.)

So, I imagine all of that has left Gerard quite confused and probably a little ambivalent about Gaga, because God knows, the man seems incapable of developing opinions of his own. I mean, didn't he say he liked Bad Romance but in the same sentence had some criticism of it?

This is true, but I don't think it was a good idea for Gerard to be criticizing another musical artist like that in a magazine interview. It's just not good PR and it makes him seem arrogant and could piss off Lady Gaga fans.

He doesn't like it when some other band criticizes him (Kasabian, anyone?) so why does he think it's okay for him to do it?

Oh come off it. Are you really that deep in denial? For people who claim to be fed up with this band and the guys in it, some here have been years for YEARS. And it's not like they've done anything particularly interesting in that time. The same issues are discussed over and over.
At least admit that you like to talk about the guy. That much is obvious.

Anonymous said...

After members of Kasabian criticized MCR a few years ago, Gerard had a little hissy fit and said something about how none of the bands who talked shit about them had "the juice" to back it up. It was ridiculous, really.

Big, tough Gerard. LMAO.

Anonymous said...

Duh. We wouldn't be here otherwise. He's fun to talk about. Always has been, even going back to the old Stafoo days. He's always been an easy target because he says and does such dumb things.

Maybe not, but their last album was actually very good. I didn't like their earlier stuff, but loved WRPLA.

No, I don't tend to get fixated on musicians.

Me neither. I usually get ridiculous crushes on fictional characters from books, films and tv shows.

Lol. Off topic I know.

I don't really think it's ever appropriate for them to do it in the press, whatever the reason.

I mean, the guys in Kasabian could genuinely dislike MCR, yet what was the point of saying it in the press? I suppose it did get them some publicity, but at the time I think it was mostly negative.

I agree. Even if they really, really want to say something bad it's not a good idea.

That reminds me of when Caleb from KOL was asked a direct question about Pete Wentz and he just smirked and said, "Pete Wentz, huh? I just really don't have anything to say about that."

It was pretty clear that he didn't like Pete, but I respect the fact that he kept his mouth shut about it.

Oh, 6:19. You made me laugh.

Honey, I've done quite a lot of living today, but thanks for the thought.

I got my little boy off on the school bus at 6:45 a.m., then went to work until 3:00 (I own my own business). I had an appointment at 4:00 with the heating and air conditioning tech who serviced my a/c. Then I helped my little boy with his science homework. Afterward I took my kids out for dinner and then bought my daughter a new pair of sunglasses to replace the ones she lost last week. We also went to the Apple Store to check out the new iPad. (It's too heavy and needs a USB port, btw. For now I'll just stick with my Kindle.)

Now I'm settled down in front of my computer and commenting here while researching 4x4 trucks (I'm buying one for my older son when he turns 16 next month).

Trust me. I am living my life. VV's blog is not keeping me from anything.

No, what's really sad is that you are 16 and you express yourself like you're about 12.

And newsflash. People don't shrivel up and die after they have kids.

Gerard is 33 and he has a child, yet he still wears eyeliner and dresses in a jean jacket with pins of his wife on them. When exactly do you think he'll reach the magic age when he's too old to have opinions about musicians? Forty?

This is true, but I don't think it was a good idea for Gerard to be criticizing another musical artist like that in a magazine interview.

I'd hardly call what Gerard said about Gaga criticisng. He expressed an opinion about the music but still said he loved the song. If anything, it could be looked on as praise. How does it go from 'jumping on the bandwagon' to 'critising' with nothing in between?

Also, Kasabian are still no where near as popular in the UK as MCR were with TBP.

Does anybody know "Soft Kitty" from Big Bang Theory?

I love you.

Anon @ 6:19 really gives us MCR fans a bad name.

Changing the subject a bit - what does everyone think of these recent pics? The Robert Smith wannabe ones?

Anonymous said...

I think he looked rather dashing n the ones where he was wearing the suit. I really disliked the whole checked shirt and trenchcoat look though, especially the one with the Robert Smith hair. Still better than the Spin magazine pics though.

Anonymous said...

I quite fancied him.

Anonymous said...

I didn't like those pics. Gerard looks like he's trying to be a cross between Robert Smith and Jack White.

I just don't understand why he seems so incapable of finding his own style.

Also, I get tired of seeing fangirls go on about how he "doesn't age." They don't understand that those pictures have been altered to take away any lines or flaws. That's why everything seems so awash with white light. Only the features show. Look at the other guys in the one or two pics they're in from that shoot. They look just as flawless.

Anonymous said...

In seven years he'll turn forty years old.

Old. An Old rockstaa in skinny black jeans and Robert Smith hair.

:)

Anonymous said...

I don't think forty is old. And Robert Smith is 50 and still rocking that hair.

The difference between Gerard and Robert Smith is that Robert can sing. Gerard, not so much.

Also, let me say that Gerard did look rather attractive in those Nylon photos. I probably would have liked them if I still liked him. But I do agree that they were tampered with to make him look that good.

poland just lost their president in a plane crash

I was just reading about that this morning. Sad news indeed. :(

Anonymous said...

I don't think forty is old. And Robert Smith is 50 and still rocking that hair.

Agreed.

Jack White is 34 (nearly 35) and there's no way anyone is going to convince me that he is old.

It's weird though in terms of Gerard and Jack's relative ages. I would have thought Jack was older, not because he looks it but because he's been around for so long and because of the many, many things he's done in music.

Either Gerard really got a late start or Jack was a boy genius. Or maybe a little of both.

Anonymous said...

Gerard did have a relatively late start compared to a lot of other recording artists nowadays. He was 24 when he first formed My Chem in 2001, and it took until 2004, by which time he was 27, for them to really start making a name for themselves. I know that's no where near 'old' in the grand scheme of things, but when it comes to the music industry, that's a pretty late start. Luckily I think 'rock' is the one genre that is most forgiving in terms of age.

And lets be honest, he was always still quite baby-faced.

Anonymous said...

I think the 'baby-faced' thing will work to his disadvantage eventually. Those guys don't tend to age well. Of course, as long as he's considered to be a serious musician that won't hurt him in the long run, but as a teen idol, age is the kiss of death.

So far he's been more of a teen idol than anything. Which is too bad because I do think MCR has some good songs.

This next record is going to be very important for them in terms of whether or not they're going to be able to lose that image. Because of that, I think the photo-shopped magazine covers are a mistake at this point.

Anonymous said...

I wouldn't necessarily say they were a mistake as such, photoshopped magazines are just, sadly, a fact of life. I don't think there's anyone who doesn't get photoshopped nowadays. I bet even Iggy Pop was, and we all know how badly he's aged.

Anonymous said...

i dont think i could have taken that band seriously even if i was still a fan after those twilight esque ap magazine covers.

Anonymous said...

They were hardly Twilight-esque. MCR have made their views on the Twilight saga pretty clear. It would have been really easy for them to cash in on that craze by liscencing their music- they were approached, but they turned it down.

happyXamp said...

we are a very random group this morning...

Their eyes in those over processed AP covers looked very Edward Cullen. They also came out roughly around New Moon. The band probably didn't have much input as far as how the pictures looked, but whoever was in charge knew exactly what they were doing.

Enough with the name calling. Enough with the generalizing. It's clear that there are two opposing sides here, both with very strong arguments showing moderate intelligence. Neither side is willing to see the other's opinion as fact. Neither side has any real concrete evidence on what these people are really like as neither side really knows them.

I believe everything has to have a way to falsify itself somehow (whether it was a real possibility or not), if it holds any water at all.

I propose a challenge to those whom seem to find the members of MCR and their significant others so distasteful. I've actually seen this very thing happen when a band's (huge) fan- site's webmaster suddenly turned against the band he once respected and loved. He mocked them mercilessly for years online. He picked apart every article/interview, ever statement, every personal choice they made, much like you do here. One day he was mysteriously flown out to LA and allowed to spend a few days with those he despised. He certainly had a different opinion afterwards.

I think it would be very interesting to see what would happen if those who felt so strongly they were correct about Lynz, Gerard and the rest of the people they criticized were allowed to spend a day or perhaps a weekend with them.

They could actually sit down and discuss why they thought of them as unintelligent, racist, sexist, and just down right reprehensible.

Would you be afraid that perhaps they may not be as bad as you thought they might be and perhaps you might actually find out they are decent people?

And if you did find them vapid and reprehensible, you'd finally have concrete proof to publish and show all the little fangirls and trolls.

What if it was possible for you to spend one day with them (face to face) and see what they were truly like in person?

Would any of you here be up for that challenge?

Could you actually admit you were wrong after so many years hate-blogging and perpetuating what you thought was fact?

Since VV lives in LA it would be very easy for this to happened. VV would you be up for this challenge or would you prefer to remain anonymous and just continue your hypothesis from what you read?

(I'm asking in all fairness)

Please keep the nastiness/deflection to a minimum as I think this is a very valid and interesting proposal.

I don't think LM and MSI are as widly different as MCR and MSI. Let's not forget this is that band that have a song about killing the president. Also LM didn't really have an established fanbase that it was unduelly exposing those lyrics to.

Anonymous said...

What kind of logic is having a crush on Frank? Frank's been engaged for as long as MCR has been around and been married for years. That makes no sense.

kapunua said...

The president song was actually the one that I liked; and at the time, the only one I knew the lyrics to.

re: frank's selling out/being racist by taking MSI on tour
