Hipster racism

"If you have a problem with the word n*gger, please get on your telephones and call Method Man at his agency, at (redacted,) and when his agent and/or secretary therein picks up, I want you all to say 'I came to bring the pain...'"

Jimmy Urine http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NWHQ8f1WuRs

The typical racist, "Well black people say it so that means it's okay if I do" argument.

Except no.

When a non-black person says the N-word, one of the top excuses given is that since black people use the slur, others should be able to as well.

Why Black People Can Use the N-Word: A Perspective

That African Americans (and some Latinos) are able to use the N-word freely while others are not is, I take it, an obvious fact.  In one particular form, the N-word carries connotations of camaraderie.  The expression is used, as rapper Q-Tip has pontificated, “as a term of endearment.”  However, it is also widely known that this use is typically not available to non-black language users.

White People Can Use the N-Word
White People Can Use the N-Word

the real reason I don’t get the urge to slap a black person every time I hear them say the “N-word” is that the image of them holding a whip and screaming at me to pick cotton doesn’t pop into my head when they say it.  I don’t get the image of them telling me and “my kind” to go to the back of the bus.  If you’re white and you’re really wondering why so many blacks are against you saying the word, blame your ancestors.  They fucked it up for you.
And again, I’m now saying that you CAN say the word.  Just realize that saying it could come with consequences.  I have a group of female friends that call each other “Bitches.”  I’m smart enough to know though that if I walked up to one of them and said “Hey bitch”, I might get a knee to my nuts.  Same thing with white people who are hoping for the ability to use the N-word.  You can use it.  Use it as much as you want.  Go to downtown Baltimore wearing a “Nigga Please” shirt.  But after you get beaten to a pulp, I don’t want to hear you crying about a damn thing.

Jimmy Urine also uses the argument that he's "racist against white people." You cannot be racist against white people. Racism is about institutionalized oppression. he will just never get it. After all this time, what I still can't believe is how ignorant and yes, racist this band is.

And that's just the one song, mind. This says nothing about "F*ggot" and "Bitches" and "Five Year Old Panty Shot."

He (and his racist friends) can excuse this all they want. They are still all a group of ignorant, misogynistic, racist, homophobic, transphobic assholes.

Well, these are special racists. They're racists with benefits! Exceptions must be made!

Cue "you spend too much time talking about Jessicka/there are more interesting things to talk about" anon.

I have a strong belief that anon is Jessicka herself.

As VV said above, MSI (and their racist friends) can excuse this all they want. They are still all a group of ignorant, misogynistic, racist, homophobic, transphobic assholes.

If Jessicka can explain why her friend isn't a racist when she clearly acts like one, I'd like to hear it.

Which anon 2:58?

Time will tell, but until then, there is nothing wrong with voicing a legitimate concern given the evidence relating to her parents on youtube or twitter.
April 28, 2012 2:13 AM

The only comment about the child that reads like "legitimate concern" is the comment at April 27, 2012 10:51 AM. I don't care if anyone here insults any of the adults so frequently spoken of, they have done things to deserve anger. But you just "white washed" the previous comments about the child, just as other anons here have accused Jessica Addams of doing with her friends. You spin your comment very nicely, 2:13AM.

As you said, she didn't pick her parents. Until we see footage of her being a racist, I'm giving her some respect and leaving her out this. She's a child, not an example.

The example was regarding Lindsey as a mother and someone who is a proven racist and sexist as part of her role in MSI. But if you want to go on supporting the person who gave us 'five year old panty shot' and believe that this person is a good example and not at all troubling, go right ahead!

Anonymous said...

LOL please show me the comments that show 'anger' towards Bandit. There are none, It's her dipship sexist and racist parents people are angry at, and how they might pass that shit onto those they bring up. Gerard said himself he wanted Bandit to see her mother play live. Maybe she can perform one of the songs filled with racist slurs to make it really special.

Anonymous said...

Maybe Bandit will rebel against them and be a really nice person who doesn't use racist slurs as 'art' or threaten to kill women.

Anonymous said...

I don't care if anyone here insults any of the adults so frequently spoken of, they have done things to deserve anger.

Unless it's poor wittle Jessicka, and then you get all upset that we're picking on her!

Anonymous said...

Why would Gerard think it would be a good thing to send a CHILD to an MSI concert? Has he been listening to the lyrics? About kids being raped and women being abused and 'whores on their knees'? Actually it makes total sense given his attitudes towards women...

Anonymous said...

I wonder if Lindsey regrets performing panty shot now she has a daughter the same age?

Anonymous said...

Didn't Lindsey disown her sister once she married Gefart because her sister wasn't 'rich'? I remember seeing some facebook post with her sister talking about it and how hurt she was.

Anonymous said...

I wonder how long it is until Gerard drops the N bomb on stage to impress uncle Jimmy.

Anonymous said...

I wonder how long it is until Jessicka does the right thing and calls the lot of those racist sexist jerks out on twitter. Oh wait, she won't because they're 'her friends'.

Changing the subject a bit, but...

I frequent political blogs, and one thing that has become increasingly annoying to me is how people always have to comment on a female politician's looks (or a politician's wife's looks).

For example, I just read an article about Jan Brewer, the governor of Arizona, and a despicable character, to be sure. Most of the comments by readers were unfavorable (the woman is not liked by many people outside her own state), but about 20% of them were disparaging the way the woman looks.

Now, I don't like her politics, but the woman is 67 years old. She's not going to look like a supermodel. And regardless, her looks have nothing to do with her ability (or, lack of it) to make good decisions.

Chris Christie (another Republican governor I don't agree with) is not exactly a handsome guy, but you never see anyone commenting on his looks. It seems men are judged by their performance and policies, but women by how attractive they are.

^ That is so true. And it shows that we have such a long way to come. Women are still seen as trophies, things to look at, instead of human beings.

I read a comment on one site where a poster was comparing the president unfavorably to Romney by saying that Romney has "five strapping, good-looking sons" while Barrack Obama "only has two squirrelly-looking daughters". In the poster's mind, Obama is somehow less of a man than Romney because of his inability to produce "strapping" sons. WTH?

This kind of shit makes me crazy. First of all, Sasha and Malia are flawless. Second, how can it be that we live in the 21st century and people still have the attitude that sons are worth more than daughters?

It makes my blood boil!

kapunua said...

JFC that is horrible! Yup, and people still have that mindset of "the heir and the spare." Ugh, so much hate.

Also, those girls are awesome.

Learn to read, please. Nowhere in my comments did I say there was any "anger" towards the kid represented here. And never did I defend Jessica Addams. Way to completely disreguard/distort my very blunt point, and be a jackass while you're doing it.

HAVE AT IT with the adults. I don't care what you have to say about them. They are in the public spotlight, they did and said stupid, offensive shit. Run with it. But don't be trash and use the kid (or any kid) to drive a point home. That would be something THEY do. Trashy Example: Steve Righ bringing his kid on stage and having no problem with the shit that comes out of Urine's mouth while she's up there. That disgusts me too.

I brought the kid up only to ask you to stop. Don't pretend you are too stupid to grasp what I'm saying. That's something MSI and company do too. Don't come here playing like you're better than them, if you're gonna do shit just like they do.

For the record, the Obama girls are just as squirrely looking as some of you have said that Bandit is. What was it? Pale and sickly looking. Or was it pasty and sickly looking?

A sickly looking child is a sickly looking child no matter who her da da is. GW, the President of the USA, or the PM of the UK.

Anonymous said...

Seriously the Obama children don't look well. They don't look well at all from the pictures I've seen CPS might need to pay a visit to the white house. They're so thin and anemic looking.

That would be something THEY do. Trashy Example: Steve Righ bringing his kid on stage and having no problem with the shit that comes out of Urine's mouth while she's up there. That disgusts me too.

So now you're using a child as an example. You are doing the same thing and are 'disgusted' by the example you are using.

Exactly.

I'm no more disgusted by the examples they're using than I am by the examples you're using. You're the ones who brought children into this. Don't point fingers and say burn the witches now. Not because of your own hypocrisy.

How could you possibly know if Gerard and Lyndsey's child is any more or less healthy than the Obama's children? You couldn't. You judge it all by media biased pictures. You're the fucking idiot buying into mainsteam media's bullshit.

Keep wishing 1:48. No one with the sense they were born with or 2 functioning brain cells to rub together is going to leave this racist, bigoted blog alone. Not if they want any positive change in the world.

Anonymous said...

If you can find the comment where you say people here said Bandit was sickly then please do so. I don't remember it and if it was posted it was likely ignored by most here.

And actually, it was Gerard and Lindsey who brought their own children 'into this' by suggesting they're going to school Bandit in the same racist shit they practice (e.g. take her to see 'Mommy' play songs like panty shot and those filled with racist slurs). So if you're angry at anyone, be angry at them. No one here expressed anger at Bandit or insulted her. Her parents? Sure. Because they're offensive.

It is true, many critics have questioned the band for using the word "nigger" in their songs -- they unfortunately are not taking the time to think about the bands satirical take on hip-hop music and culture, and their otherwise brash attitude in regards to the established quota of what society deems "the norm." Why is it deemed acceptable for Clifford Smith (AKA Method Man) to bust out on "Bring The Pain," but it is "in poor taste" for Jimmy Urine to do the same? It is a great song Mindless Self Indulgence wanted to cover -- should great music be restricted by nationality or race? Should we really waste our time dissecting this kind of the thing in the world we live in today? We think not.

From MSI's website. Spoken like true white racists.

my friend continues to rave about them, but they are ultimately a band about style and presentation. they look the part, because they have to, and i know for a fact that the real guitarist of the band plays on the sidelines during their shows, but the stylish guitarist they put on stage is there just as a decoy."

I saw them support MCR live and Lindsey's fingers came off the strings for at least 10 seconds, but the baseline kept going.

I thought this was interesting. Gerard recently did a collaboration with Deadma5, a man who has a full sleeve tattoo of a girl being raped:

Why, think about what we're saying? NEVER. Who would do such a thing! Also, notice how we don't address any of our other racist, homophobic, misogynistic songs which we penned ourselves!

Yeah, that's 'cause she doesn't actually play it. One gal who used to come here had the misfortune of seeing them a few years ago. She was cracking up, because Lindsey stage-dived with her bass. It wasn't plugged in, she obviously wasn't playing it as she was in the crowd, but somehow the bassline kept going. Now that's feminism!

Anonymous said...

Now that's feminism!

Along with laughing at five year old girls being raped. Such dedication to promoting respect for women everywhere! I bet Jessicka is really proud of her.

Anonymous said...

It doesn't surprise me that Gerard is working with people who promote rape. He did a song with 'Uncle Jimmy' after all.

Anonymous said...

The anon who commented about Bandit and the anon who brought up Obama's children are NOT THE SAME ANON. Read the timestamps. It's really pathetic that so many of you group any comment you don't want to address properly into coming from one person. And yet the Mayo people are the only one's who can't let things go? I hope this is a joke.

Anonymous said...

I remember the comment from a long time ago where someone said Bandit looked small and sickly. I think most of us jumped on that person and said that you couldn't tell much from the picture that was posted. I specifically remember telling that person to lay off Bandit. I think kids should be off limits, just as I think Obama's kids (or any other politician or celebrity kids) should be off limits.

Hiya guys, how are you all?

The N word has different connotations to them than it does to us. If a person of color chooses to use that word amongst his or her friends, that's a personal choice and does not hold the amount of historical oppression as when a white person does it.

Hiya K. I totally agree with you there K. I wouldn't dream of telling someone not to use certain words but that's my point, I wouldn't tell ANYONE no matter what colour that they can't use certain words. I myself might not like them or understand why people would want to use them but I wouldn't tell anyone they couldn't.

But I believe all words are there for all people. It's how I've kind of been taught to think. Here in Europe, we have this human rights law and soooooooooooo many equality laws for sexism, religion, racism every ism you've ever heard of and a million you've never even thought existed. We have to give everyone the right to do everything fairly and over here it would just be said that N----- is a bad word that no-one can use it equally, even black people. Because if white people can't use it, black people can't either and vice versa with other insults. Over here if a black person was openly calling another black person the N word, they would also be arrested for racism. I've read all the quotes about oppressed people being able to use certain words but the point I'm trying to make is that over here, these are our equality laws and black people can racially abuse other black people and be prosecuted for it, just as white people can racially abuse white people.

Trust me, most of these human rights laws are baffling and are made up by the European courts and do not represent our legal system in Britain. A lot of the rules we know are daft but as we are all in Europe together, we have to abide by them. Most of these rules only ever seem to benefit criminals and their right to a home life (why we can't deport terrorists), their right to comfortable living (why criminals in prison just have to have expensive games consoles in their cells) etc. Seriously.

Does that make sense?

I guess I've just been brought up to flinch at the N word whoever says it, but to say only one group of people can use certain words opens up a whole new kettle of fish equality wise.

I just flinch when people abuse each other full stop. I'm not a conflict type of person, you've probably gathered.

As far as the musicians being talked about on this blog, I also flinch at the thought of these isms amd sickening subect matter being used in music etc and it being said that it's ok cos it's art and it's thought provoking and we mean it this way, not that way. Let's be honest, it's used for shock value alone, nothing thought provoking about it.

Anyway, I hope everyone has a great weekend.

Satire is a hard art to defend but im gonna give it my best shot. When you say MSI is racist, sexist, or homophobic you assume their lyrics are meant to be taken at face value. That Urine as an character reflects the persona of Euringer as a creator. Yet negate to mention the influences of the band, such as comedian Lenny Bruce and cartoonist Ralph Bakshi. In Bruce he once said in a now highly charged bit on words like nigger, kyke, and other slurs it's the oppression of the word that gives it it's power, it's vileness, it's viscousness. Or Ralph Bakshi who would take the subtextual racist images in popular cartoons and exaggerate them to a point where you had to confront them and address them. Because racism doesn't just go away it gets more subtle. While blatant black stereotypes faded things like darker colour palettes for villain still remain. Ever wonder why Disney shades it's villains, why Scar has darker skin tone? Now apply the Bruce quote to a song like Faggot and keep in mind the era it was made. 2000 music culture was dominated by incredibly sexist and homophobic nu metal bands whos fans thought nothing of calling people fags. So now here's a vand who is saying how awesome it is to be a faggot. Gay sex is the best ultrasex. As part of the lgbt community and growing up in very volatile times this fuck you disenfranchisement of the word was incredibly helpful. As for their use of nigga again I point to Bakshi. There's a line in Kill the Rock in which they say, Stealing all my beats from the blacks 12 year old girls is where I steal my act", now here they're mocking music's tendency to take cultures and exploit them for their own gain. By saying the blackz we are immediately given a sense of racist subtext that applies to this appropriation. The last part 12 year old girls is a mockery of the ageism that also applies to the industry. The whole album of Frankenstein Girls is about being an aging queer forced to exploit black culture so the label can sell merch to suburban white kids. Its a critique of these practises. I'm not saying you can't be offended simply that satire is a complicated beast that often uses trouble elements to ridicule troubling elements of society and that's what MSI seeks to do.
