It's amazing the contrasts between Michelle's speech and the one given by Ann Romney at the RNC. Michelle's was positive and uplifting. I love her and I love my President.
She was fabulous and she hit every issue, HARD. How they started out poor (Romney was handed everything,) she hit women's rights, gay marriage, health care, AND she didn't rely on any speech writers. She wrote her speech herself.
I agree, she was fabulous. I like how positive the speech was. She talked about actual issues instead of criticizing the other guys. How refreshing after that other convention.
Loved the First Lady's speech. I thought his part was especially important, because it is one of the main things that sets the President's campaign apart from that other guy's.
Barack knows the American Dream because he's lived it, and he wants everyone in this country to have that same opportunity, no matter who we are, or where we're from, or what we look like, or who we love. And he believes that when you've worked hard, and done well, and walked through that doorway of opportunity, you do not slam it shut behind you. You reach back, and you give other folks the same chances that helped you succeed.
WOW, Kapunua. I really had no idea of the whole story. (I follow The Scarlet Woman blog and I saw your story up there about Mya and losing your job)...
Michelle was gracious and lovely, but more importantly, she hit all the major issues, hard. She hit women's rights, pro-choice, fair pay, affordable health care, and the right of LGBT to marry.
That last one: am I correct in thinking that this is the first time a party has actually come out and said "We fully support gay rights across the board?" Has that ever happened before?
9:21, I love the Scarlet Woman Tumblr, and I felt like it was about time to get that story out there. This way people can see the sexism in the work force, how sexual assault is laughed off, and how you can lose your job for speaking out against it. It's a safe space for women to talk about their experiences like that. I love that she reblogged that.
I just read your story, Kapunua. I like how you put the part in about the girl saying her father would "kill the guy" and probably "go to jail". I had a similar experience when I was 16. My boss actually threatened to accuse me of theft if I wasn't "nice" to him. I was terrified, and told my mother, who made me quit on the spot, but she wouldn't let me report it because she said my father would kill the guy. I've often wondered how many young girls fell for this guy's bluff, and this was over 20 years ago. I really do wish I could have gotten this creep fired.
9:51, I'm sorry that happened to you. Your boss sounds like he was a horrible human being.
My parents were awesome but yes, very protective. My Dad was not kidding when he said he would hurt someone. That eased up a lot when I was an adult. Of course, I can understand that protective urge that parents get. You really just want to kill anything that hurts your kids.
But when I have a kid, I want to create a mindset where he or she can tell me anything without fear.
Of course, the blame goes nowhere else but squarely on the people responsible for doing crap like that in th efirst place.
"COIN," I like that. See I think that if Jesus was alive today, he would probably be appalled at what's going on. All these rich ass people hoarding their money and refusing to help the sick and those in need, I mean, come on. I don't believe in the Bible, but I enjoy Jesus as an historical figure. He probably would have been a socialist. ;)
So did this Mya own up to what she did? I can't believe someone would be so vindictive and just downright batshit.
I'm sorry you had to go through all that, Kapunua. I know you're in a better place now, but still. It must be frightening to have such a lunatic following you around the internet. :/
She did. And then she lost her own job, came forward, and apologized. I accepted and thanked her - for what she did, AND for apologizing.
And then a few weeks later, she decided that she hated me again, said she took back her apology and wished she had never said it, and then started in with all the craziness again. :/
8:25, I was just going to ask if anyone else was watching. Clinton TORE IT UP, damn. He was like, "IT'S MATH." *Mic drop* BAM.
Elizabeth Warren was awesome and so was Sandra Fluke, in fact. Nights like tonight, watching Twitter and Tumblr blow up, I feel like we can't possibly lose.
BUT. You know, strangely enough--even after all the truth bombs that are getting dropped--it's still really close. We need everyone to vote!
Oh, the debates, now that's going to be a blast. :)
OH! I know what I wanted to tell you guys. So I saw something on Neil Gaiman's Tumblr last night, another women's rights thing. Finally I just wrote to him, saying basically that I really enjoyed his work, and I really wanted him to be on our side. But that I remembered his association with MCR and MSI from a few years back and could simply not believe that he would espouse women's rights and social justice while still approving of them.
Well, he wrote me back. He explained to me that he'd only met Gerard once, at a party for his comic. He said he'd seemed nice the one time he'd met him, but hadn't seen him since, and didn't know anything about his band. He also said he didn't know who MSI was.
I was super relieved and I started following him again. :D
"The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Thursday shows Mitt Romney attracting support from 47% of voters nationwide, while President Obama earns 44% of the vote. Four percent (4%) prefer some other candidate, and six percent (6%) are undecided."
The candidates always get a bump after their convention, and the GOP just had theirs. There hasn't been time yet for the polls to reflect the Democratic Convention bump yet.
I think the debates will be a big factor. Mitt Romney comes off like a Ken doll in a public speech, and he's not a great debater. Ted Kennedy made mince meat of him. I look forward to seeing how he does against Obama.
But regardless, this is going to be a close race. We can't be fooled into thinking we have this in the bag. Everybody has to get out and vote.
That's exactly the issue. We need people to vote, b/c the GOP is really relying on voter suppression, and is counting on certain contingents to not be able to vote.
Anonymous said... I don't agree with you Miss T, I don't think it's about weakness, it's about power. There are some people that want it and would do anything to keep it. It's their drug.
Unfortunately these are usually the people that get to the top of the pile.
My opinion.
Hiya anon. I agree with you but what I meant with it being about weakness is that it is a weakness of theirs that they are afraid to lose power. Yes they have it and it terrifies them to lose it and that makes them weak and lash out. You can be powerful and totally weak at the same time.
Anonymous said... I think Miss T and 9:48 are pretty much saying the same thing. I agree with both of you.
Thanks anon, I think we were kind of saying the same thing. Just with different words.
The difference is that non-religious people have never tried to pass laws forcing their non-religion on people. Have never persecuted, killed, or oppressed religious people. That whole thing is done solely by religious people, trying (and mostly succeeding) in passing laws on the rest of us (abortion, gay marriage, atheists not allowed to hold office, etc.) YOU ARE NOT BEING OPPRESSED.
I have to agree with K here. I'm sure you all know me as a non-believer. I'm not trying to criticise religion and it's not always the religion that is bad but the people in power that will use that religion and twist it all up to get what they want and to get their people to do what they want. It's how the religion is used which is bad.
You can't argue though that there has been no wars started by athiests.
Myself, I like that there are many people in this world with different beliefs and I love learning about them, I did Egyptology at uni which is mostly about religion, beliefs and gods. I just hate the kind of people who can't let others be and feel the need to try to convert others, who feel that if you don't believe what they believe, you are wrong.
Feel free to disagree with me hee hee!
Sometimes when I read about people arguing about what is the true religion, surely the only true religion can be the first one. Any that came after were just invented, so surely whatever the cavemen and women believed is the true religion.
That's me going off at a tangent.
K, I have commented elsewhere on your old job story. I was with you online when this was happening in your life and it's great to see how your life has turned around but still makes me really sad that those things can happen. It still makes me shudder to think of it all.
On another note, Michelle Obama is a credit to your country. Why isn't she president? You've had a black man now how about a woman or is that too much too soon?
She is one of the only people who make me think god bless America ( in an athiest way of course). Now I'm going for a sit down cos I'm really babbling LOL.
I just hate the kind of people who can't let others be and feel the need to try to convert others, who feel that if you don't believe what they believe, you are wrong.
Me too, but unfortunately, I live in the South (US), and I have to deal with those people every damn day of my life. People who think that I'm a bad mom because I don't take my kids to church, even though my kids are both happy, well-adjusted, and make good grades. People who side-eye me and call me a "librul" when they find out I support Obama. People who tell me I need to watch Faux News to learn "the truth" about "that socialist". People who think the earth has only been around for 6000 years and that dinosaur bones were put here by Satan.
Honestly? I feel like a goddamn extra-terrestrial about 99% of the time. How sad is it that I have to come to the internet to get some relief from the insanity?
Misty, couldn't have said it better myself. And I think Michelle would be AWESOME, dang. A Michelle Obama / Hillary Clinton ticket would be the bomb.
2:06, ugh, I'm sorry you're in that environment, so frustrating! I have to put up with that from distant family members. Fortunately, they are distant enough that I don't have to hear it that much.
You can say that again. If I had to hear another convention lie, false promise, excuse or party convention propaganda I may have cut my ears off.
The political press will keep buzzing over whether Clint Eastwood's unconventional speech helped or hurt Mitt Romney and whether the snafu over Israel and God in the Democratic platform will do any lasting damage to President Obama. Republican reporters will think former President Clinton talked too long, and Democrats will note that New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie talked more about himself than about Romney.
But they are missing the point. The campaign is about what's happening in America, not what the politicians are saying.
Somebody gets it. Gets what it's really all about for most voters. It's about what's happening in their own neighborhoods and communities. In their own backyards and homes. It's about the food that is or isn't on their tables and worrying about whether or not they'll have a job in 2013.
It's the economy. It's how voters answer the question "are you and your family better off now than you were 4 years ago".
Those who answer yes will probably vote to reelect Obama. Those who answer no will probably vote for Romney.
What are the young voters thinking? According to the non profit, non partisan Generation Opportunity they're very concerned about their present and future.
What matters to them?
89% of Americans ages 18-29 say the current state of the economy is impacting their day-to-day lives.
64% of young people ages 18-29 believe the availability of more quality, full-time jobs upon graduation is more important than lower student loan interest rates.
61% of Millennials say the availability of more quality, full-time jobs with health insurance plans is more important than the ability to stay on their parents’ health insurance plans until they are 26.
84% of young people ages 18-29 had planned to but now might delay or not make at all a major life change or move forward on a major purchase due to the current state of the economy
Just 38% believe that today's political leaders reflect the interests of young Americans.
76% of Millennials plan to vote in the election for President this year.
Obama gets 2% convention bounce mostly thanks to Bill Clinton. http://m.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/obama_administration/daily_presidential_tracking_poll
"The president’s bounce began the night after Bill Clinton spoke to the convention and received rave reviews. Sixty-six percent (66%) of voters nationwide have a favorable opinion of the former president. Democrats overwhelmingly believe Clinton and Obama have similar views on how to fix the economy, but few Republicans and unaffiliated voters share that assessment. Among all voters, 59% see Clinton as a better president, while 19% prefer Obama. Democrats are evenly divided."
The stock market doesn't matter when middle class America's parents have to cash in their kids college funds and their 401Ks to keep their homes and to put food on the table or when retirees have to go back to work to keep their homes. Their stock market value is 0 and 5 or 10% of 0 is still 0.
I'll never understand why Monica Lewinsky didn't file a sexual harassment suit against Bill Clinton. He was the president of the United States and he asked an intern to service him. Whether she serviced him willingly should be irrelevant. She was star struck. He was the fucking president and she was a fucking intern. It was the ultimate abuse of power. I would have sued his ass to hell and back.
An excellent link, 2:57. However, I'd like to point out that some of the policies being argued about in this election are relevant to the points made in the article.
The problem is that the middle class isn't supplying the new skills that the world is demanding. We can fix that problem. We fixed it in the early 20th century and again in the 1960s after Sputnik by overhauling our education system. That is mainly a state and local job, not a federal one.
The president has set about to hold states to a higher standard in education, while the GOP has called for deep cuts in spending which would effect the amount of dollars given to states for education. These states are already struggling. The GOP would also cut funding for Pell Grants and subsidized loans. Romney thinks that young people can just "borrow money from their parents" if they're having trouble affording college. He's that out of touch.
People in red states who don't even believe in climate change or who want to teach creation as opposed to evolution are hurting themselves more than they know, and having an administration who is willing to cow-tow to those folks is only going to make that problem worse.
Also, when you take away a woman's reproductive choices, women won't be able to pursue higher education because they'll be too busy having babies. The resulting higher birth rate would also contribute to the decline in education, because households would have more children and, therefore, fewer dollars to spend on each child's education.
The social issues that are being fought over in this election have definite economic consequences.
The social issues have HUGE economic impact. If only more (greedy) people would realize that, Obama would sail right on into his next term.
Ann Romney was asked recently about her stance on contraceptives and women's rights. This asshat replied that she had talked to a lot of women, and she knew we didn't care about those things. What we care about is the economy.
She is so clueless.
As one of my friends said today:
If you’re voting for Romney I fully expect you to be able to go up to a woman who became pregnant as a result of rape, look her in the eye, and not only tell her that she has no choice but to carry the child to term but also that her rapist gets father’s rights
I fully expect you to be able to go up to your one gay friend, look him in the eye, and tell him you think he should never be able to get married to the person he loves
I fully expect you to go up to your one black friend, look her in the eye, and tell her that you think she shouldn’t be allowed to vote because there have been (A VERY SMALL NUMBER OF) instances of voter fraud in the past
Ann Romney is clueless. How dare she tell me that I "need to wake up." She's the one who doesn't have a clue what it's like to raise a developmentally challenged child as a single parent and to worry that I won't be able to get insurance coverage for her because of her disability.
Anne Romney must be talking to other women who rely on their husbands to make millions so they can stay home and take care of 5 or 6 kids. They need to pay fewer taxes so they can all get car elevators.
Anne Romney must be talking to other women who rely on their husbands to make millions so they can stay home and take care of 5 or 6 kids. They need to pay fewer taxes so they can all get car elevators.
That's exactly who she's talking to. Over the summer, they came out to the Hamptons for their fundraiser and some woman a newspaper interviewed said something like, "Well I'm rich because I'm just more educated than, like, my maids and the nail-ladies."
Does she stop to think that the "nail ladies" and maids didn't have the same advantages in life that she did?
Ann Romney's definition of "struggling" is having to sell off some of your stock portfolio (which was given to Mitt as a gift from his father) to pay for college. You can bet neither of them graduated with a single dollar of student loan debt.
The good news is that after the DNC, Obama is leading in the polls. Even Rasmussen, which typically skews pro-GOP by about a percentage point, is showing Obama up by 4.
While this is great, we can't become complacent. We don't have this in the bag, especially considering how the electoral college works. Right now it looks favorable for Obama, but we still have to get out the vote.
Romney is now saying that he wants to keep the pre-existing conditions part of the Affordable Care Act, as well as keeping adult children on their parents' insurance.
The only problem is, he doesn't say how he plans to pay for it without the individual mandate. Basically, what he's doing is flip-flopping again. He knows he's losing ground so he's saying what he thinks people want to hear.
He's so full of shit. Anyone who watched the clip from his debate with Ted Kennedy and heard him rant about how much he supported a "woman's right to choose" back then knows he just makes up things as he goes along. He doesn't really stand for anything -- except tax breaks for the wealthy.
He does know the value the money. His parents were missionaries in Mexico before moving to Detroit. He spent some of his early years in Mexico witnessing first hand the struggles of people there. Just as a young Obama witnessed the life and struggles of the people Indonesia.
Hard working, self made people shouldn't be punished for their success. The Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Oprahs, Wu Yajuns, Whitmans, Fords and Romneys of the world shouldn't be hated just because they worked hard and struck it rich.
None of them were born with silver spoons in their mouths. They were innovators.
I think anyone who has an idea and dream and the courage to risk it all to see it through should be applauded not mocked. Whether their last name is Obama or Romney, Ford or Winfrey, Perot or Paul. Whether there's a D behind their name or an R, G or I.
No one is saying people should be punished for their success. The difference is that Romney was never poor. He was born into money - and if you think he wasn't, you're delusional. Because of this, he has absolutely no clue how people without car-elevators live, feel, think, function, etc. His advice to people who couldn't afford to start a business? "Borrow money from your parents."
He's clueless, and so are the people who believe his "everyman" schtick.
"What is riskier than living poor in America? Seriously! What in the world is riskier than being a poor person in America? I live in a neighborhood where people are shot on my street corner. I live in a neighborhood where people have to figure out how to get their kid into school because maybe it will be a good school and maybe it won’t. I am sick of the idea that being wealthy is risky. No. There is a huge safety net that whenever you fail will catch you and catch you and catch you. Being poor is what is risky. We have to create a safety net for poor people. And when we won’t, because they happen to look different from us, it is the pervasive ugliness."
Sometimes I honestly believe that some of these Romney people are actually democrats trolling really hard in an effort to make their candidate's supporters look even worse.
Must read book of 2012. Mark Owen's No Easy Day. It's a non partisan, non political account of how Navy Seal team 6 took out the world's most wanted terrorist Osama BinLaden. How the team members worked together and refused to tell President Obama which member of the team made the kill shot. Why? Because it was a team effort and the one who pulled the trigger was no more important than the ones who provided the intelligence or flew the planes.
Navy Seal Team 6 is a perfect example of working together to achieve a common goal regardless of differences in background, ideology, party propaganda, race or religion. They had a job to do and they came together and did it. They didn't care if the man sitting next to them voted Democrat or Republican. It didn't matter and that's one of the reasons they were successful.
The retired Navy SEAL whose first-hand account of the killing of Osama Bin Laden contradicts official accounts of the operation and who has expressed tough words for President Obama, tells CBS News' "60 Minutes" that his book "No Easy Day" was not intended to score political points but rather to honor his fellow soldiers on the mission.
Mark Owen, Navy SEAL In Bin Laden Raid, Condemns Those Who Politicize Raid: 'Shame On Them'
I don't think any one wants to punish hard work and success, what most people want is a reasonably fair and equitable society, not one that appears to have one set of rules for one set of people and another for everyone else.
^That there's a real hero and one of a select few who can take the real credit for getting Osama Bin Laden. He's right. Shame on anyone who tries to politicize that issue. Republicans who give credit to Bush for starting the war on terrorism after 9/11 and Democrats who give credit to Obama for being president when the military achieved the goal they had been trying to achieve for years and years.
Another thing 8:52 you can't imply that success is only attributable to hard work. Most people work damn hard to keep their jobs and look after their family.
There is a lot more involved in getting to the top. And you definitely need a certain personality to get there.
Well 11:43 I've never seen a self made successful person who didn't do the hard work. Have you?
I can, most definitely, attribute hard work to success.
You might be sitting back on your ass waiting for success and fame to knock on your door and pull you off of your couch but most people have to go out and work for it. They work hard for it.
How old are you and what difference does it make 11:49? I'll tell what I am. I am a small business owner who is being taxed to death. What do you do? Who do you work for? Who pays your health insurance?
Who'll pay your for your health insurance and who'll pay your salary once the small business you work for goes bankrupt because they have been taxed out of business?
Your stupid is showing 11:53. All self made successful people have worked hard. Have all hard working people become rich, success stories? Of course not. No one said that. Many people work hard all their lives and never become financially wealthy. That doesn't change the fact that many who work hard and take the necessary risk do become financially successful.
A lifetime of hard work does not automatically equal financial success but independent financial success can not be achieved without hard work.
Same thing both candidates are trying to do by courting your vote 12:09. Only I'm being much more honest than either candidate. I'm not using the democratic line that your grandparents will have to Alpo or Friskies if the Republicans win and I'm not using the you'll live in a Godless America line if Obama wins.
You follow one party? Any party. You believe all of that party's propaganda? You won't look at and work with and respect the other side? You automatically dismiss that other party and call them twits, racists, terrorists or un American just because they're views are different from yours? You are stoopid. Worse than that. You're ignorant.
Ignorance is the mother of all bigotry and the father of all racism.
I'm not a small business owner but my boyfriend is. He voted for Obama last time but is not voting for him this time. He feels lied to and betrayed by Obama and his administration. Most of the other small business owners he knows feel the same way. I like Obama as a person but not as a CEO. He didn't have the experience this country needed. He tried and he failed. It's time to move on and elect a real CEO. A country is a business and should be run as such by qualified personnel.
LOL for all the people who thought that critically acclaimed Clint Eastwood Superbowl Halftime commercial was pro Obama. Guess he showed them what he really meant by it's halftime in america Our second half is about to begin.
"It's half time. Both teams are in their locker rooms discussing what they can do to win the second half.
And we're all scared because this isn't a game. The people of Detroit know a little something about this. They almost lost everything. But we all pulled together."
"Obama tops Romney in August fundraising The president hauls in $114 million to win the monthly money battle for the first time in four months."
Look at all those poor people supporting Obama. It's nutz. It's all fucking nutz.
Do any of you have a clue how many people, how many families could have been fed with that money? With $114 million? It's gross, disgusting and sickening how much money all of these politicians spend on election and re election campaigns. I'd feel dirty supporting either of these presidential candidates. How dare they waste so much money when the poverty rate in America is at a level not seen since the great depression. Both candidates are starting to disgust me.
Imagine the good that $114 million could do instead of what it will be used for. To buy a presidency. That's what it comes down to. No one, neither party can take the high ground here. Facts are facts, waste is waste and both candidates are neck deep in sewage.
Reading the comments here, I can't help but wonder how many would willingly take and drink the cup of Kool Aid from the Obama camp just because they said "trust me. follow me. drink. it's good for you".
I'm using the Obama camp as an example because most of the people here seem to blind Obama supporters. I could go to another blog and use the Romney camp as an example.
It's the same thing. The blindly devout leading the blindly devout. Whether it's religion or politics. I'm amazed so few people can see the similarities. It baffles me how people can criticize the devoted flock of one but not the other.
I can't write much now, but I will be back later. I would just like to say to the person who said Romney wasn't born with a silver spoon in his mouth...
Really?
Because he totally was. Now his father wasn't, and I think his father was probably a decent person, as was his mother. George Romney set the precedent of releasing 12 years of tax returns to the public during his candidacy, yet Mitt has only released one, and that one is incomplete because he didn't include the schedule that outlines his offshore accounts.
And yes, George Romney was born in Mexico, but that's only because his family went there to escape "persecution" for polygamy. They were not missionaries there. They lived in a very comfortable Mormon compound. They left Mexico because of political reasons, and Mitt was born in the good old US of A.
Mitt was a "missionary" in France, conveniently during the Vietnam War. He spent two years there so he could get out of doing a duty in Vietnam.
Also, I am a small business owner, and my most difficult task these past few years has been in finding affordable health insurance for my 8 employees. I hardly pay any Federal taxes at all, but my state and local tax burden is killing me. I live in a Red state, by the way.
Perhaps the anon whose boyfriend owns a small business would like to talk with me about our concerns?
I voted for Obama last time, and I'll vote for him again. I don't think he has all the answers, but at least he's trying. Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan are just blowing smoke. They won't even give specifics about their so-called plan.
I do know that Obama is not trying to take away my rights to my own body and my own healthcare, nor is he going to turn Medicare into a voucher system which will cost me thousands of dollars more a year than the current system, just about the time I'm ready to retire. Nor does he want to tell my bestie, who just happens to be gay, that his relationship with his partner of 14 years is less than another friend of mine's hetero relationship (who just happens to be on her third marriage in 8 years).
So, you know. I ain't fallin' for your bullshit, and I ain't drinkin' Kool-aid. I rely on research and facts.
I already pay over $7000 a year for health insurance. Up 1/3rd from 4 years ago. You can drink your kool aid and choke on it. Where's my Obama care? Where is the relief for my family? What happened to my homeowner's insurance? My umbrella policy that I've paid thousand of dollars for over the years. That's gone too. You need to do more research and find the real, non partisan facts.
I can't wait for her to get her first government required health insurance bill and not ever get her first social security check. I hope she has a good 401K because the current generation will be one of last to receive the social security that they paid for.
I already pay over $7000 a year for health insurance. Up 1/3rd from 4 years ago. Where's my Obama care?
You do realize that most of the provisions of the Affordable Care Act don't go into effect until 2014, right?
Also, if at least 80% of your premiums weren't used for actual health care expenses, you were supposed to get a rebate for 2011. Chances are your employer did, and he's probably keeping it to reduce costs for the coming year.
What happened to my homeowner's insurance? My umbrella policy that I've paid thousand of dollars for over the years. That's gone too.
That's a question for your insurance company, which sounds a bit shady to me. Of course, you could also ask Paul Ryan, who seems to be in bed with insurance companies. Are you saying the government should bail you out because you got cheated by a corporation? What kind of Republican are you, anyway?
Sounds to me like you don't know much about how insurance works. It's not surprising that you don't know how the Affordable Care Act works either.
A little too defensive if you ask me. Your hate is showing.
Really? I don't see any hate in that comment at all. It seems to me that you're one of those folks who thinks that if someone disagrees with you, they're "hating". Projecting much?
I can't wait for her to get her first government required health insurance bill and not ever get her first social security check. I hope she has a good 401K because the current generation will be one of last to receive the social security that they paid for.
Now this comment does constitute hate. You really, really can't stand anyone who isn't on your side, can you?
It's okay. Do some deep breathing and maybe go have a lie down. And you might want to go to church and ask Jesus to forgive you for wishing bad things on other people. ;)
That's what more and more middle class Americans are asking. What happened to what I've paid for over all these years? We've played by the rules. We did what we were supposed to do. We're paying alot more and getting much less.
That's what more and more middle class Americans are asking. What happened to what I've paid for over all these years? We've played by the rules. We did what we were supposed to do. We're paying alot more and getting much less.
If you would just take time to learn about the AFA, you would realize that it's trying to fix those problems. They've been a long time coming, and the fix isn't a wave of a magic wand. Like I said, the provisions kick in in 2014.
As to your homeowner's insurance, you're on your own. But isn't that where Repubs like to be?
Nah 7:19. Jesus helps those who help themselves. Speaking up and speaking out is helping yourself. No forgiveness needed. Just ask President Obama. He is a Christian. He holds that bible close to his heart whenever he feels it's needed.
Sorry to disappoint you 7:23. I'm not a repud. Though if forced to choose between the two predominate parties, you're making those repubs look better and better to me.
No, actually Jesus was more about forgiveness and helping the sick and downtrodden. But then, I don't expect you to know that. Most "Christians" know very little about Jesus and lots about church rhetoric.
Do you forgive Mitt Romney for the error of his past ways, 7:31? For being a rich man who has donated his time and money to his church? To sick and downtrodden Mexicans and Mormons?
Lol. Mitt Romney never helped anyone but himself. He never did a thing for Mexicans. He gives money to the Mormon church so it can repress black people, build ginormous temples and contribute money to anti-gay causes.
You don't know what you're talking about, and I'm done trying to reason with you.
I don't know this faux news you speak of 7:36. Seriously. I don't. I have presented facts. If you in your bigotry and partisanship choose to ignore those facts it's your choice. It should be every man's and woman's right to choose. Wouldn't you agree?
7:54 should have been taught much better reasoning skills. That's what happens when teachers aren't paid enough to teach. It's the students who suffer for a lifetime.
I honestly don't think either Wnedy or Mya are right wing crazies. Wendy's all about the partay and Mya is all about her daughter. Both are very reasonable unless you happen to be a left wing nut.
I honestly don't think either Wnedy or Mya are right wing crazies. Wendy's all about the partay and Mya is all about her daughter. Both are very reasonable unless you happen to be a left wing nut.
Uh...
Yeah. Those comments on Kapunua's blog were totally reasonable. So was Wendy's drunken rant about people burning in hell.
What are you talking about 8:18? Seems you forget that there are two sides to every story and you shouldn't talk about people who can't defend themselves. Unless you want them to come here to defend themselves. I can let them know what they're being accused of yet again.
I honestly don't think either Wnedy or Mya are right wing crazies. Wendy's all about the partay and Mya is all about her daughter. Both are very reasonable unless you happen to be a left wing nut.
Sorry, but they ARE right wing nuts. YOu can be a right wing nut and still be a "party person." In fact a lot of them are, look at how many have drug problems, cocaine, are sex offenders like Bill O Reilly.
And being "all about your daughter" doesn't make you less of a right wing nut either.
They are both nut jobs, and they are both trolling here. Except they really believe in their own craziness and it's amusing.
There were more than 2 or 3 people who understood Mya's side of that story 8:32. I know. I was there too and I understood where Mya was coming from and why she did what she did.
What I don't get, 8:36, is why you had to come here peddling stupid right wing talking points to try and rile people. Why not just come right out and say you were Mya or one of her friends?
Can't you people just be upfront about who you are and what your motives are? Why do you have to be such sneaks?
I don't know anything about any comments mya made at kap's blog but I do know how Kap belittled and taunted Mya and others at Mayo's blog. Even going so far as to insult mya's daughter just for being a pretty girl.
Even going so far as to insult mya's daughter just for being a pretty girl.
I think that's bullshit. I've never known Kapunua to say anything negative about someone who is pretty. She always talks about how pretty Charlotte Riley and other actresses are.
Maybe Mya's daughter is a raging bitch like Mya. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree, usually. If Kapunua said anything to her or about her that was insulting, that would probably be the reason.

«Oldest ‹Older 201 – 400 of 858 Newer› Newest»Oh my God. Michelle is so awesome. Her speech just made me cry.
Obama/Biden 2012
It's amazing the contrasts between Michelle's speech and the one given by Ann Romney at the RNC. Michelle's was positive and uplifting. I love her and I love my President.
She was fabulous and she hit every issue, HARD. How they started out poor (Romney was handed everything,) she hit women's rights, gay marriage, health care, AND she didn't rely on any speech writers. She wrote her speech herself.
Woot.
I agree, she was fabulous. I like how positive the speech was. She talked about actual issues instead of criticizing the other guys. How refreshing after that other convention.
Three cheers for the FLOTUS!
Is there any transcript available of Michelle's speech? Could someone please post it here? Thank you if so!
I googled the transcipt and this was the first link that came up.
WOW. That is just... Messed up.
Either way, BRAVA.
Holy shit. Okay, I knew the story, but I never saw screen caps of Mya's actual posts.
Evil. All evil, and done "as a Christian"?
NOPE. I am a Christian. (I'm on the Christian Left, by the way, we exist!) And that is NOT how you treat people. That's disgraceful.
Can I have a link? I want to see the screen caps.
10:17, actually my stupid Tumblr is down right now. So it might take a while.
Kapu, we call people like Mya "COIN". That means "Christian In Name Only"
"COIN," I like that. See I think that if Jesus was alive today, he would probably be appalled at what's going on. All these rich ass people hoarding their money and refusing to help the sick and those in need, I mean, come on. I don't believe in the Bible, but I enjoy Jesus as an historical figure. He probably would have been a socialist. ;)
For the anons who asked..
Kapu's story about her job and Mya I am really glad The Scarlet Woman picked this up and reblogged it.
Those screen caps are disgusting.
She is extremely troubled.
Thank you for leaving the link, 5:58AM. :)
I really had no idea Mya went so far as to say and do all of those things. I'm sorry you had to put up with that, Kapu.
Bill Clinton killed it at the DNC. So did Elizabeth Warren.
Obama/Biden 2012
Thanks, 4:17. :D
So I want to share this thing I found today. It's old, back in December, actually, but somehow I missed it. But today I posted it on my Tumblr and within a few hours, it got about 19 thousand notes!Mitt Romney Accidentally Confronts A Gay Veteran; Awesomeness Ensues
First awkwardness, THEN awesomeness. This guy just lays it on the line and ROmney's like, "Uhh, uhh, well bye."
OMG, take a look. It's so telling and I'm so happy that this video is going around today.
Why name a nailpolish New York Dolls and make the shallow consumptive collector side of me want to get it?
I didn't know JGL is fluent in French
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dsJGZ4bKHZA
^Yup! I think he studied French literature in college or something.
Oh man, guys, Looper premiered at the Toronto film festival and people are saying it's amazing. I'm so jealous of anyone who's already seen it!
Hey, who's going to tune in to see Obama tonight?
I'll definitely be tuning in for the President's speech tonight. I can't wait.
Also can't wait for the debates. Mitt the Twit won't even know what hit him. :D

Has anyone here read The Space Merchants by Frederik Pohl and C.M. Kornbluth?
Although it was written way back in 1952, it's like staring into a very possible future the way things seem to be going.

Cloud Atlas looks amazing. :)
That's exactly the issue. We need people to vote, b/c the GOP is really relying on voter suppression, and is counting on certain contingents to not be able to vote.
Hiya guys, how are you?

*Hugs* 2:06. You read as a loving and caring mom.
Just watched Bill Clinton's speech.
I loved how he emphasized that you need to co-operate, work together and include everyone and not polarize.
Kapunua, I was reading the blog of someone who attended the current book tour of William Gibson.
Apparently Gibson mentioned he is writing a new book and it's going to be set "way future".
So excited!!
It's the economy, stoopids.
http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/political_commentary/commentary_by_scott_rasmussen/despite_convention_distractions_it_s_still_all_about_the_economy
Mercifully, the political conventions have ended.
^THIS
What are the young voters thinking?

Too bad Slick Willie can't run for president again. That would be a dream come true for the DNC.
She lurved him. She always referred to their sexual encounters as a love affair. He referred them as a mistake. Weakness. An error in judgment. pffft

http://finance.fortune.cnn.com/2012/03/30/middle-class-fix-politicians/
*Kowtow.
Shoulda looked it up before I hit Post. I knew that didn't look right :/
The social issues have HUGE economic impact.
Cause that’s what you’re supporting
Ann Romney is clueless. How dare she tell me that I "need to wake up." She's the one who doesn't have a clue what it's like to raise a developmentally challenged child as a single parent and to worry that I won't be able to get insurance coverage for her because of her disability.
She's the one living in a fucking dream.
Anne Romney must be talking to other women who rely on their husbands to make millions so they can stay home and take care of 5 or 6 kids. They need to pay fewer taxes so they can all get car elevators.
Um, on a lighter, sexier note...
Dayum.
I have no more words.
*not my tumblr, I don't have one. I hope this person doesn't mind me linking this.
*the above link is NSFW
Oh... and DAYUM!!!
What is that even from?
Anne Romney must be talking to other women who rely on their husbands to make millions so they can stay home and take care of 5 or 6 kids. They need to pay fewer taxes so they can all get car elevators.
That's exactly who she's talking to. Over the summer, they came out to the Hamptons for their fundraiser and some woman a newspaper interviewed said something like, "Well I'm rich because I'm just more educated than, like, my maids and the nail-ladies."
Stupid, clueless, rich, privileged assholes, basically.
Absolutely. They are such a bunch of dimwits. They don't even live in this world.
C'mon you guys! VOTE!
http://www.globalpost.com/dispatch/news/regions/americas/united-states/120909/romney-likes-obamacare-meet-the-press-health-care
I read about that earlier today, 2:47.
A person is allowed to change their mind. Like Obama did on gay marriage, Israel and oil drilling.
An evolving stance on the issues is one thing. Doing a complete 180 is another.
The only reason Mitt Romney has so drastically changed his mind on Roe v. Wade is to appease the Tea Party hardliners.
The reason he flip-flops on everything else is because he doesn't really stand for anything.
Money. He stands for money, and that's about it.
Now as far as this nonsense:
I think anyone who has an idea and dream and the courage to risk it all to see it through should be applauded not mocked...
Oh please. Melissa Harris-Perry, ladies and gentlemen.
I have nothing to add to that.
Sometimes I honestly believe that some of these Romney people are actually democrats trolling really hard in an effort to make their candidate's supporters look even worse.
Someone really does need to learn to get over herself and put her partisanship aside.

8:52 What point are you missing?
I don't think any one wants to punish hard work and success, what most people want is a reasonably fair and equitable society, not one that appears to have one set of rules for one set of people and another for everyone else.
^That there's a real hero and one of a select few who can take the real credit for getting Osama Bin Laden. He's right. Shame on anyone who tries to politicize that issue. Republicans who give credit to Bush for starting the war on terrorism after 9/11 and Democrats who give credit to Obama for being president when the military achieved the goal they had been trying to achieve for years and years.
Are you proposing a flat tax 11:37? One set of rules and one tax rate for everyone? That would be the most fair thing to do wouldn't it?
Another thing 8:52 you can't imply that success is only attributable to hard work. Most people work damn hard to keep their jobs and look after their family.
There is a lot more involved in getting to the top. And you definitely need a certain personality to get there.
11:37 has to be a Perot or Paul supporter being so fond of one set of rulez and all. She can't possibly support Obamney. Either or.
How old are you 11:42?
Well 11:43 I've never seen a self made successful person who didn't do the hard work. Have you?
I can, most definitely, attribute hard work to success.
You might be sitting back on your ass waiting for success and fame to knock on your door and pull you off of your couch but most people have to go out and work for it. They work hard for it.
How old are you and what difference does it make 11:49? I'll tell what I am. I am a small business owner who is being taxed to death. What do you do? Who do you work for? Who pays your health insurance?
So according to you 11:50 self made successful people only work hard?
Who'll pay your for your health insurance and who'll pay your salary once the small business you work for goes bankrupt because they have been taxed out of business?
Your stupid is showing 11:53. All self made successful people have worked hard. Have all hard working people become rich, success stories? Of course not. No one said that. Many people work hard all their lives and never become financially wealthy. That doesn't change the fact that many who work hard and take the necessary risk do become financially successful.
A lifetime of hard work does not automatically equal financial success but independent financial success can not be achieved without hard work.
You can't be dense enough not to get that.
Yes they can. They can and they are.
Well what are you doing here on a boring old blog conversing with us stoopids oh high and mighty?
Small business is backbone of Middle Class America.
http://www.phillyburbs.com/news/local/money/small-talk-winning-the-small-business-vote/article_7c1ccdba-5699-5cda-8984-e80fc9e1ed67.html
Working hard. Obviously.
*their views
I know I'll be crucified for that typo
Are you talking to yourself 12:21?
I'm not a small business owner but my boyfriend is. He voted for Obama last time but is not voting for him this time. He feels lied to and betrayed by Obama and his administration. Most of the other small business owners he knows feel the same way. I like Obama as a person but not as a CEO. He didn't have the experience this country needed. He tried and he failed. It's time to move on and elect a real CEO. A country is a business and should be run as such by qualified personnel.
No 12:26. I'm talking to Clint Eastwood in this chair right next me. Who are you talking to punk?
LOL for all the people who thought that critically acclaimed Clint Eastwood Superbowl Halftime commercial was pro Obama. Guess he showed them what he really meant by it's halftime in america
Our second half is about to begin.
Wow all these successful business people posting here. Of all places!
"It's half time. Both teams are in their locker rooms discussing what they can do to win the second half.
And we're all scared because this isn't a game. The people of Detroit know a little something about this. They almost lost everything. But we all pulled together."
Most poignant superbowl commercial ever.
Small business is backbone of Middle Class America.
It's the backbone of most countries, not just America.
12:45 has never been to Detroit.
12:45 probably doesn't know what state Detroit is in. lulz
No shit 12:54. It's why small businesses should not be ignored and taxed out of business in any country.
Clint Eastwood for president. He's got my vote. I think I'll write him in come November.
"Obama tops Romney in August fundraising
The president hauls in $114 million to win the monthly money battle for the first time in four months."
Both candidates are starting to disgust me.
http://www.businessweek.com/news/2012-09-09/romney-defends-tax-cut-plan-with-outsiders-assumptions#p2
$114 million in one month. $114 fucking million for what? To do no good and to fix nothing. It's sickening.
http://www.forbes.com/sites/leonardburman/2012/08/29/even-if-governor-romneys-tax-plan-could-be-made-to-add-up-it-wouldnt-make-any-sense/
I agree 1:09.
http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2011/jul/07/barack-obama/barack-obama-claims-credit-least-16-tax-cuts-small/
http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2012/sep/07/barack-obama/barack-obama-said-hes-cut-taxes-middle-class-famil/
It really is vomit worthy. I think it might be time get rid of the hood ornament. Most people know that's all a president is.
Imagine the good that $114 million could do instead of what it will be used for. To buy a presidency. That's what it comes down to. No one, neither party can take the high ground here. Facts are facts, waste is waste and both candidates are neck deep in sewage.
That doesn't change the fact that many who work hard and take the necessary risk do become financially successful
Not everyone who takes risks and works hard has financial success. Takes a lot more. Also a lot of people who help them.
If you were really intelligent, I wouldn't have to raise that point.
Wha 2:44? Go to bed sweetie. Let the adults talk.
lulz
2:53 you and I are seeing different things.
I see some devout to O, some lukewarm and undecided and some skeptical of either candidate.
What 2:55?
The old bones not working the way they used too? ^_^
tu tut tu tuttu tu tu...
Damn it.
No 12:26. I'm talking to Clint Eastwood in this chair right next me. Who are you talking to punk?
So sorry to disappoint you, but there is nothing "punk" about me.
I'm a free spirit :)
Chicago teachers strike leaves 400,000 students out of school
The old bones are working better than ever 3:00. Now be a good pup and roll over and play dead. Let your body match your brain cells.
roflmao
The old bones not working the way they used too? ^_^
Oh the discrimination and grammatical errors there.
Anyone would be proud to have her on their side.
^sarcasm
Don't pick on the children. There is a massive teachers strike going on right now. The kids haven't been taught better.
A little too defensive if you ask me. Your hate is showing.
6:20 only buys the Dems bullshit. She'll pay a hefty price for it in the end.
Nah 7:19. Jesus helps those who help themselves.
No, actually Jesus was more about forgiveness and helping the sick and downtrodden. But then, I don't expect you to know that. Most "Christians" know very little about Jesus and lots about church rhetoric.
and that's how Steve Jobs prophecy will come true. That's how Obama will be a one term president. Thanks to people like 7:19 and 7:23.
You know forgiveness 7:31? Helping the sick and downtrodden? Do tell.
Can you produce a valid argument instead of Faux News talking points, 7:32? Seriously?
What does your comment even mean? It's just empty talking.
Come back with facts, like 7:19 and 7:23. Then maybe people will listen to you.
Were you born blind 7:39 or was it an accident that caused the blindness?
I have presented facts
I wanna see the receipts.
Seriously. Where are these facts you speak of?
"I'm done trying to reason with you"
Typical cop out for someone losing an argument because they haven't a superior leg to stand on. Though would like to think that they do.
Still waiting on those "facts", 7:42.
What facts would you like me to verify 7:44? Name them and I'll verify.
$114 million raised by the Obama campaign in the month of August. FACT
Teachers on strike in Chicago. FACT
What else?
Still waiting on "what else", 7:51.
You can't reason with someone who has no capacity for reason, 7:47. And you can't refute "facts" that aren't presented.
So far you've only regurgitated emotional responses with no basis in facts or relevancy. Homeowner's insurance, really?
That's why I'm done trying to reason with you. You aren't capable of reason.
Now I really am done, because I actually have a job.
$114 million raised by the Obama campaign in the month of August. FACT
Teachers on strike in Chicago. FACT
LMAO.
Yeah, I said I was done, but you just proved my point that you are incapable of reason.
Pray, what bearing on the Presidential race do those "facts" you just stated have on anything?
And now I really am done.
Health insurance premiums for employer-sponsored family plans up from 2008. FACT
Private health insurance plans up from 2008. FACT
live in a Godless America line if Obama wins.
That would be the best possible scenario I could imagine. Get the sky-fairy and his bigoted followers out of here.
You really are an idiot aren't you, 7:54.
^FACT lol
I guess 7:54 never heard of education or the teachers union. I can believe that. Now I'm done.
Oh, it's the FACT anon. That was either Wendy or Mya.
I love it when the fundie, right-wing crazies invade. They're so stupid it's funny.
7:54 should have been taught much better reasoning skills. That's what happens when teachers aren't paid enough to teach. It's the students who suffer for a lifetime.
What's your excuse for being so stupid 8:03?
Do people really think Obama has anything to do with a teacher's strike?
I guess they don't teach American Government down south, do they? Too busy learning Creationism.
LOL.
Health insurance premiums for employer-sponsored family plans up from 2008. FACT
Private health insurance plans up from 2008. FACT
The AFA doesn't kick in until 2014. How many times does that have to be repeated? God damn, but how thick can one person be?
Question. Was the link posted to that tumblr .gifset of Tom Hiddleston? Cuz, damn. Who knew he had an ass like that?
I honestly don't think either Wnedy or Mya are right wing crazies. Wendy's all about the partay and Mya is all about her daughter. Both are very reasonable unless you happen to be a left wing nut.
I honestly don't think either Wnedy or Mya are right wing crazies. Wendy's all about the partay and Mya is all about her daughter. Both are very reasonable unless you happen to be a left wing nut.
Uh...
Yeah. Those comments on Kapunua's blog were totally reasonable. So was Wendy's drunken rant about people burning in hell.
Not.
Could've been a body double, 8:14, but I doubt it. Tom's done nude scenes before and he does have a great ass.
What are you talking about 8:18? Seems you forget that there are two sides to every story and you shouldn't talk about people who can't defend themselves. Unless you want them to come here to defend themselves. I can let them know what they're being accused of yet again.
talk about not presenting the facts. lulz
Bet they would piss their pants if Mya, Martha Jones, or Wnedy came here with their side of the stories. Amyranth and the OPs too.
Yeah, I was wondering how long it would take before they showed up. They had to retaliate against Kapunua's story getting posted.
I bet Mayo was loling at the whole Kap getting fired thing. He had to know it was Mya. He had to. He had that tracker.
Seems you forget that there are two sides to every story and you shouldn't talk about people who can't defend themselves.
You know, those comments Mya made on Kapunua's blog are indefensible. So was getting her fired for no other reason than hating her.
Defend all you want. "Their" actions speak louder than any defense they could try to present.
There were more than 2 or 3 people who understood Mya's side of that story 8:32. I know. I was there too and I understood where Mya was coming from and why she did what she did.
Mya crossed a line that should not have been crossed, regardless of her "side" of the story.
You have to admit, it is always a lively blog when those two assholes show up.
Even going so far as to insult mya's daughter just for being a pretty girl.
Caps or it didn't happen!
I remember anyone who disagreed with her getting called things like Dickwod or weed or dipstick.
Pretty is as pretty does
Even going so far as to insult mya's daughter just for being a pretty girl.
I hope Mya's daughter didn't inherit teh cray. That would be a shame.
Insanity does tend to run in families.
Cuckoos of a feather flock together. This blog is proof of that.
