And I thought they were scraping the bottom of the barrel when that guy who wrote that Witch Mountain movie. What has Rawson Thurber done lately?

The news of Amy Winehouse's passing really is tragic. She had so much talent but she was set to self destruct and there was nothing anyone could do to stop her from imploding.

Anonymous said...

It looks like you're right 7:53. Good news for everyone involved.

Rawson Thurber, the writer/director of 2004's Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, has been brought aboard the planned adaptation of Dark Horse Comics' The Umbrella Academy, reports Deadline.

Created by Gerard Way (best known for being the lead singer of My Chemical Romance), the 2007 miniseries tells the story of a disbanded superhero family who all come back together after the death of their father.

Thurber, who most recently adapted the Michael Chabon novel The Mysteries of Pittsburgh, is also one of the writers of the upcoming Brett Ratner film Tower Heist. He'll take on a script for Umbrella Academy from Mark Bomback (Unstoppable, Live Free or Die Hard).

Yeah, I'll believe it when I see it.

(Or rather when I don't see it, because I wouldn't go see it if it does get made.)

I finished Atonement last night. It was pretty effing sad, but I wasn't sobbing the way I thought I would be. However, I did watch the movie tonight and for some reason, the ending came across more poignant and less light-hearted. It was just a bit heavier than it was in the book.

At any rate, both were beautiful!

Hocking said...

i liked the first series. The second though went over my head. I also didn't care for how he portrayed the Kennedy murder. It would depend on how its done for me. I personally can't see a liveaction film coming out of it. A cartoon? Yes. but not live action.

kapunua said...

Switching from Atonement for a moment, guys, what do you think? Is Livejournal gone for good this time? :(

What did you think of James McAvoy?

i hope not. I rely on the MP3_Share community a little to much

He was lovely. So was Romola Garai as older Briony. She is a strange brand of gorgeous, isn't she? And Saoirse Ronan is pretty amazing. Can't say much for Keira Knightly though, who seems to have one expression.

Yeah I agree she is not a favorite, haven't seen her in much aside from this and Pirates but she doesn't really do much. Rest of the cast was A1 terrific.

Lindsey must be really excited about this. If this movies blows up crazy, This will open up new doors for her because he's always mentioning her in every little thing he talks about. People will want to know more about her and her artwork and damn... she is going to be one hell of a happy camper.

Tom Hardy on Mad Max

“Imagine a hungry wolf. Or like when you put a cat in the bath. You grab a cat by the throat and stuff it under the fucking water. You know what it looks like? That’s what I’m going to look like. But like a puma. Very hungry at very dangerous. It’s imperative. This is the kind of guy who’s not well. So I have to create that reality.”

Anonymous said...

Okie dokie artichoke/ie...but you know if it does get made, it'll be all over the place. So don't knock it till you try it

LMAO.

It will tank just like Danger Days did. The market is overly saturated with comic book films right now. Even big name franchises like Green Lantern and X-Men are underperforming.

TUA may pull in some hardcore comic fans and MCR fangirls, but nobody else.

IF it gets made. I still don't think it will happen.

Anonymous said...

Don't you just love how fangirls are all "it will be everywhere" when hardly anybody even knows what TUA is outside the MCR fanbase and the comic book nerd world?

The general movie going public will stay away from that film in droves if it does get made. I have to agree with 7:35 though -- I don't think it will be made.

Anonymous said...

Who cares if T Hardy was at comic con. LL Cool J and the other men from NCIS LA were there. They put other men to shame. THard wishes that he was as cool and hard as LL.

Anonymous said...

Keep wishing 7:35. TUA could be Universal's Captain America.

Anonymous said...

LMFAO.

You go right on being delusional, 8:42. That's what MCR fans are good at. You probably think MCR is the "biggest band in the world".

Anonymous said...

"Don't you just love how fangirls are all "it will be everywhere"

I know. Most of the people in the world are like Tom who? Cruise. Is he still alive? They have no idea who Hardy is. Only the i saw his peen on screen fangirls know his name. I don't know why they bothered looking for his name. His dick isn't that impressive.

Anonymous said...

TUA could be Universal's Captain America.

Riight. Just like Danger Days had sold 3 million copies by January. BTW, 8:42, are you the person who kept editing Wikipedia to post fake sales numbers?

Anonymous said...

Wrong 8:46. MCR isn't close to being the biggest band in the world. They're not the biggest or the best selling artist. Pop or rock. They're not the most talented artists either. What they are is good at what they do. What they are is one of few survivors from the emo scene.

Who else from that made up genre even debuted on any of the top 10 charts this year?

Anonymous said...

No 8:51. That's not me. But you have fun with your wiki account. Do all the editing you want. Falsify facts. Bend and twist the truth. Lie away.
Big brother isn't watching you. No he isn't.

Anonymous said...

Nice try, but Inception pulled in over 825 million dollars at the box office and Tom Hardy is going to be the villain in the new Batman film. He may not be a household name, but he's still damn successful. But beyond that, he's very talented (something Gerard Way is not) and he seems like a genuinely nice person (something Gerard Way most definitely is not).

You can go on believing that MCR is the biggest band in the world and that TUA is going to be a huge blockbuster if you like. Lots of fangirls think MCR is hugely popular and that their music is amazing too. I disagree, but you are certainly entitled to your opinion.

Anonymous said...

MCR fans were the ones who were falsifying Wikipedia sales numbers. Or did you really think they sold 3 million copies?

Hocking said...

8.56 P!@TD peaked at number 2 on the US Rock and Alt charts. Number 5 on the digital sales. and number 2 on UK rock albums....

Anonymous said...

What they are is one of few survivors from the emo scene.

Lol, really? Just don't let Gerard Way hear you saying that, because he'll probably threaten to smash your face in because he says emo is a pile of shit.

Anonymous said...

I seriously doubt TUA will ever be made into a feature film. These fan girls think because Universal optioned the film and are looking at screen writers automatically means it has a green light. I think Universal optioned the film and bought the rights from Gerard in case MCR ever became the big cash cow WB was hoping for. And I doubt they spent very much on those rights at all. Now that Danger Days has flopped and the band can only headline small venues, pumping millions of dollars into TUA film would be ridiculous. If it becomes anything at all it will be a short lived series on Cartoon Network.

As usual, you are missing the point.

Nobody thinks Gerard is actually going to smash a fan's face in. It's the implication that violence is an acceptable way to deal with people who differ from you or who call you out that's the problem. Gerard used to preach anti-violence. For him to turn around and start talking about smashing faces is disturbing to people who took him seriously when he said he was anti-violence and pro-feminist.

Like Kapunua said, most MCR fans are just "La-dee-dah, I like the music" or "I think he's hot" so they think it's fine for him to do/say anything he pleases. I don't agree with that. I think he's a jackass and I refuse to support him any further.

Anonymous said...

This.

Gerard talks a lot, and I have yet to see anything that makes me think TUA is any closer to being developed than it was 2 (or was it 3?) years ago when he was on about it being "fast tracked" (LOL). It's been through two screenwriters now, neither of whom are exactly tearing up the box office with successful projects these days.

Do any of you have any idea how many times there has been talk of making Preacher into a film? Then it was going to be a mini-series on HBO. It even got so far as being cast (James Marsden was going to play Jesse Custer) and they were doing test shots with costumes and make-up before the project was scrapped. Also, it took years for Watchmen to make it to the big screen, and what a disappointment that was.

I just don't think TUA is very well suited for a feature film. It's too cartoonish. Also, it's not something that's going to be suitable for young children (which is what I think Universal was originally banking on when they optioned the rights).

Plus, Rawson Thurber? You do realize that he would make it into a comedy, right? Maybe with someone like Seth Rogen playing Spaceboy. In other words, it would be a distastuh.

Anonymous said...

I never even heard of Preacher. I don't see what it has to do with TUA.

Hocking said...

its another comic series. A much better known comic series too. Speaking of comics i found my moms old stash of Green Latern comics today..

Preacher is amazing. It's the single best comic book series I've ever read. Somehow it doesn't surprise me that MCR fans don't know about it though.

Anonymous said...

I kind of hope TUA does get made because you know it will be a total flop at the box office.

I don't know if it was bad sales or what, but TUA never even made it to its third series, when Gerard was always going on about having material for at least five. The writer they got sounds like a dud and I doubt the project will go ahead as Gerard's attention span is for shit these days, case in point the Killjoys comic that was in the making for two years, got hijacked for a last minute album concept and now doesn't even seem like it he has an artist for it anymore as they're doing other big stuff for next year.

Meanwhile, the MCRmy is all sad to discover their band only really need them to buy their overpriced designer merch. Took them long enough.

I’m actually headed tonight to Australia to start some stunt-training. I’m training now. Even though I’m smoking. I’m meant to drop 30 pounds so smoking and one meal a day is my training at the moment. I’m going to start fighting soon. The harder stuff, as we get close to the line. I’ll probably get three or four months of fight training out there. Seven days a week. All that kind of horrible shit.

Is that they call training these days?

Anonymous said...

A lot of actors do bad things to their bodies to prepare for roles. Jared Leto lost so much weight to prepare for Requiem for a Dream, and then he made himself ill putting on weight for Chapter 27. He learned from that experience though, and now he takes very good care of his body. Maybe Tom will do the same?

Anonymous said...

I think Christian Bale takes it to the extreme when preparing for a role.

kapunua said...

Yeah, Jared wrecked himself, and for a movie that should never even have been made (Chapter 27.) I'll never watch it. Yoko Ono didn't want it to be made and her wishes should have been respected.

I do hate what actors feel they have to do to their bodies and I'll never understand why many of them make themselves ill. It's just a movie roll; you can be healthy and still be an awesome actor. Nothing is worth your health.

Anonymous said...

Why should Yoko Ono's wishes have been honored? Most celebrity movies are made against the wishes of the family. Most recently the Runaways, the Kennedys and Lady Diana movies.

Chapter 27 wasn't even about John Lennon. It was about the psyche of the man who killed John Lennon. Mark David Chapman. It's a great movie.

Anonymous said...

I feel that the surviving family members' wishes should be respected when it comes to making films about them. I don't think it's realistic to expect moviemakers to be that honorable though. If they think there's a market and they can make a buck, they'll exploit it. They DGAF.

kapunua said...

I think that surviving relatives' wishes should be honored. Yoko Ono's reasons for not wanting the movie made was because it would give Chapman what he wants most in the world: attention. And that's exactly what it accomplished. I don't care how "great" it is. It was the most epic and vile case of "feeding the troll" and she should have been respected. Chapman should get nothing. No films, no attention, nothing. He should sit in prison and rot for the rest of his days, completely ignored.

Laughing at the behavior of a person in the throes of addiction, or dismissively treating it as entertainment, is no less unforgiveable than making fun of someone who has begun to deteriorate from the damages of any other chronic and debilitating disease. Jared Leto on the tragic death of Amy Winehouse

http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/amy-winehouse-remembered-by-jared-leto-20110728

Anonymous said...

No doubt there will be a movie made about the tragic life and death of Amy Winehouse. Regardless of her family's wishes.

kapunua said...

I read that thing that Jared posted and I put it on Tumblr too. As I said there, I’m always so personally pleased when Leto speaks out about things because I never fear that I’ll have to defend—or worse, abandon—my favorite band because of some dumbass or insensitive thing they’ve said or done. I know Jared’s got his moments, as we all do, but mostly he is just a class act. He makes it very easy for his audience to respect and admire him.

Anonymous said...

So if it ever came to light that GW's behavior was all a result of addiction or a mental disorder you would profusely apologize to him for all the thing's you've said here and encourage your friends to do the same?
You would apologize for treating his problems as entertainment for you and your friends?

1:49 and 2:03 before you come here and insinuate things why don't you look at GW's own friends such as Jessicka Adams who thought the behavior of Charlie Sheen was was entertaining. I recall the people on this blog didn't think his behavior was funny. I also recall the people on this blog were very concerned for GW originally and thought he was in the throes of some addiction until he proved otherwise.

I don't find him entertaining at all. I find him ignorant, hateful, violent and arrogant. Yes, those things can be fueled by drugs. But in my experience, that kind of mindset has to be there in the first place for it to manifest so strongly under the influence of drugs.

I've known a lot of addicts and alcoholics, and many of them are as gentle and kind as can be. There is just no excuse for Gerard's hateful behavior towards other people.

Anonymous said...

So you'll forgive Amy Winehouse and her defenders for her racist chants but not GW or anyone associated with MCR? You have no problem with her being called an amazing person and a beautiful woman and would even go so far as to say you're proud of her defenders.

Anonymous said...

Troubled soul singer Amy Winehouse apologized on Monday for singing a racist chant, footage of which was obtained by News of the World.

Winehouse, 24, stood outside her north London home, telling paparazzi that she was sorry, adding: "I don't want to play anything down, but I'm the least racist person going."

In the video, shot around May 2007, Winehouse and a friend giggle as they sing a string of racist lines set to the tune of the children's song "Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes." Winehouse sings: "Blacks, Pakis, Gooks and Nips, Gooks and Nips! And deaf and dumb and blind and gay!"

You people can forgive Amy Winehouse for that but not forgive GW or Frank Iero for much less offensive things they've said on twitter?

I mean, you do realize that you just admitted that, right?

You also speculate that they are all huge druggies. Is that what you meant to imply?

Because honestly I don't see evidence of a bunch of druggies going on benders for the last few years. I just see evidence of a bunch of privileged dudebros throwing their weight around and hiding behind the internet.

Addiction is an illness. Racism and misogyny is an attitude and a choice. How any of you can come here and compare what happened to Amy to those boneheads in My Mindless Chemically Indulgent Self Romance is beyond me. It just goes to show that you have no sense of perspective at all.

Tom Hardy was on his way to Camp Pendleton, the Marine Base in California, to show his terrific new MMA drama, “Warrior,” when I got him on the phone.

He had a Comic-Con appearance under his belt (He’s the villain Bane in the next Batman movie) and I was sure he was a bit tired of talking up that. So I turned the subject to cars. Tom Hardy is to be the new Mad Max, taking the road warrior role that made Mel Gibson a movie star in the remake of the first movie about that character.

“I’m sponsored by Audi. I’m not gonna lie. I can’t drive to save my life. OK, not entirely true. I learned to drive just three-four years ago, just so I could take my then-girlfriend to hospital. She was pregnant.

“So I’ve been driving Audis EXCLUSIVELY since then. Never bought a car. OK, I bought one for like a thousand bucks, and it just died. But Audis are AMAZING. Love them. People ask me about cars and I am all about the Audis. All I ever drive.

“They’ve shown me these new Police Interceptors and other cars they have in Australia for the new [Mad Max] movie, and they’ve shown me a collection of these monster rigs — Chevys and trucks with all these things welded to them — huge pipes and skulls and black paint — every crazy idea that George Miller’s design people could come up with for petrolheads who were into Mad Max. Truly magnificent beasts, all of them. If you love cars and you love that world, I think that’s going to be the most exciting movie ever when that comes out.”

Hollywood heart-throb Tom Hardy has revealed he had a string of gay flings as a teenager. The 32-year-old Inception star, who is engaged to British actress Charlotte Riley, 28, and also has a two-year-old son with a former girlfriend

But asked if he’d ever had any sexual relations with other men, the broody actor said: ‘As a boy? Of course I have. I’m an actor for ****’s sake. I’ve played with everything and everyone. I love the form and the physicality, but now that I’m in my thirties, it doesn’t do it for me. I’m done experimenting but there’s plenty of stuff in a relationship with another man, especially gay men, that I need in my life. A lot of gay men get my thing for shoes. I have definite feminine qualities and a lot of gay men are incredibly masculine.’

London-born Tom found big-screen fame with Star Trek Nemesis, and in the 2009 hit Bronson, where he played the notoriously violent criminal Charles Bronson to critical acclaim.

In Guy Ritchie’s hit Rock’n'Rolla he starred as gay gangster Handsome Bob, and had a crush on Scottish hearthrob Gerard Butler. He then starred as Heathcliffe in a BBC remake of Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights, where he met stunning fiancée Charlotte.

In an interview with Now magazine, the former party-boy who has battled drink, drugs and crime to turn his life around, added: ‘A lot of people say I seem masculine, but I don’t feel it.

‘I feel intrinsically feminine. I’d love to be one of the boys but I always felt a bit on the outside. Maybe my masculine qualities come from overcompensating because I’m not one of the boys.’

Wake up 6:15. Get in touch with the real world. She has nothing to do with it. Stop trying to fool yourself.

Anonymous said...

No he isn't 6:05. He's a confused man boy with little talent.

And what would you know?

Anonymous said...

Yeah, not much 6:19. You should stop trying to think you can fool others.

Anonymous said...

Tom Hardy used his sexuality and sex to gain fame . Stop worshipping and idolizing him. He's a pig.

Anonymous said...

Ask any of his x's.

Anonymous said...

WTF is going on with his nose? Was it broken or something? Some girl probably kicked his ass for not having a pair.

His nose is fine. He's cute.

Anonymous said...

Ask any of his x's.

I suppose you know them don't you? *rolls eyes*

Anonymous said...

It really is laughable how they try to make everything about her? Everything. You have to wonder if they're paid to do it or if they're all family who feel obligated to do it. It's fucking ridiculous and insane. How fucking pathetic and desperate for attention can somebody be? You can say that the sky is blue and somebody would come in and try to make that about her.

Anonymous said...

I posted JGL links all because I wub her. Nothing to do with JGL. It's all because of her.

Anonymous said...

Whatever...

Anonymous said...

All because of Tom Hardy. He's cute.

Anonymous said...

You feeling unloved 6:32? I'm sure if you drive to Mayo's or an MCR fansite you'll get some love there. It will make you feel better, guaranteed.

Anonymous said...

I didn't answer her question about what camera to get < $200 because I hate her.
Btw you're welcome for my suggestion of the canon. *rolls eyes*

Is Mad Max going to be full-on action?

TH: I think so, yeah. Now, we’re working on the Mad Max body, which is going to be stripped down and become more feral and dog-like.

Mel Gibson in those days wasn’t really beefed up.

TH: No, no, he wasn’t. He’s a legend man, but he didn’t do half the shit that we’re going to be doing in this one – you can fit the entire fucking trilogy in the first 20 minutes of this one. He’s a legend and I’ve got his shoes to fill and that’s going to be difficult enough, but the entire Mad Max trilogy is kind of over in the first 20 minutes. It’s epic, it’s ridiculous.

Why did George Miller want to do it?

TH: That’s a good question, which I’ll find out more about.

Because he’s gone to do all kinds of different things…

TH: Babe, Happy Feet… I love that about him.

I never met him, he looks like an old dandy.

TH: He’s very analytical; he’s a psychiatrist as well. He’s very analysis-based and caring and sensitive, and due diligence is his process. He articulates himself in a multitude of sensual and sensitive ways, and he’s just brilliant to be with.

You’re talking about all this action, but with George directing, it’s got to be a character piece too?

TH: He’s got to ground it entirely in a world of humility, sensitivity and vulnerability, that he exudes himself.

Is it obvious from what you’ve seen of the script already?

TH: No. [Laughing.] What you see in the script is just fucking raw carnage! So god knows how he’s going to do it. If it wasn’t for George Miller, I don’t think it’s something I would look at with any seriousness, because it would easily just be something that is an action movie, like any other, which either does well or doesn’t do well.

A lot of those films are essentially the same film, but with different outfits and names?

TH: It can be like that, but this isn’t the case. It’s more like the reinvention of Batman that Christopher Nolan did. This is George Miller, coming with something he created initially anyway and he’s had 30 years to ruminate on and to return back to it

I love it when the trolls try to spam us out of this place. Proof we're doing something right if we're getting the MCRmy rats where they're sensitive.

As for MCRSI, well, they remain racists and sexists despite your lame-ass trolling! Congratulations. The blog stays.

Anonymous said...

I'm gonna start calling this troll Ms Urine

It does sound remarkably like Chantal having one of her little defensive fits about her revolting husband...

Just like MCRSI then!

Gosh, what a pathetic little shit you are!

Kapunua, thanks for reblogging my post!
I really liked your "praying mantis" tiny story.

You're calling the troll a child, but then you behave just as they did? You, sense, the make not!

Anonymous said...

Just ignore, it's so much easier that way and they end up not getting what they want -attention.

Anonymous said...

Nice try 3:34, but it's obvious to anyone with more than two brain cells that it's the same troll trying to play both ends against the middle. This is not the first time and I daresay it won't be the last.

veritavenom said...

That ought to do it. :)

Anonymous said...

Cheers VV!

Anonymous said...

What did you do?

Anonymous said...

One of the many differences between this blog and Mayo's...

Verita gives a shit. Mayo does not.

Thanks VV!

Anonymous said...

There's nothing comparable to a bond built upon mutual hate. So touching.

Anonymous said...

Doesn't that amount to censorship?

Anonymous said...

VV's following 7's example. She deleted all the aggravating comments.

Anonymous said...

It is censorship and more proof of the hypocrisy of this blog. Way to go with that censorship VV.

Anonymous said...

Deleting spam is now censorship. Uh huh. Okay, Go back to Mayo's then and enjoy your spam blog.

Anonymous said...

I think we all know where she stands now. Her words about supporting free speech, everybody being welcomed and being accepting of different opinions aren't worth a ½¢.

Anonymous said...

She deleted more than the spam and who's to say what is spam and what isn't?

Anonymous said...

^ obviously VV

Anonymous said...

I seem to remember that it was about a page of "delete the blog you moron" and other repeated phrases. That is nothing more than spam. When you flood a page like that, it's spam and you're doing to get deleted by any good mod.

U MAD, SPAMMER?

Anonymous said...

*going to

veritavenom said...

She deleted more than the spam and who's to say what is spam and what isn't?

The community moderator, naturally.

I'm not denying you your right to free speech. Go and yell "delete this page" from the rooftops if you want. You're just not going to keep doing it on my blog. Like someone said, it's flooding.

Also, there is a spam filter in place on this blog. It deletes comments that it thinks are spam. I just found out about this and restored some old comments that had been filtered out that were not spam.

The good thing is that the more you delete floods and un-delete things that aren't spam, the more the filter software learns what to delete and what to leave. So if you keep flooding with certain phrases and I come back every month or so to delete them, eventually they won't even make it through the filter. So you're really helping me. THanks.

To everyone else, sorry about the mistakenly deleted comments, they should be back now though some of them are pretty ancient since I'm not around that much and didn't know about the filter.

Also sorry about the spammers and hopefully the software will be taking care of that.

Anonymous said...

It is censorship and more proof of the hypocrisy of this blog. Way to go with that censorship VV.

It's this just the stereotypical whine from MCR/MSI supporters. Always whining about the hypocrisy when they, the two bands they support and their friends, are excellent examples of it.

Anonymous said...

^Isn't this

Anonymous said...

So if you keep flooding with certain phrases and I come back every month or so to delete them, eventually they won't even make it through the filter.
