I was a stay-at-home mom for nearly 15 years, and I would never criticize anyone for doing that. It's a hard job, and society undervalues it, imo. Plus, you lose your independence and that's no picnic. Trust me.
I worked before I had kids and now that they're older I work. I wouldn't trade the time I spent taking care of my kids, but I'm happier being more independent. I can't imagine letting a man support me unless I was taking care of small children.

When I was a stay-at-home mom, while I enjoyed being with the kids, it was not fun being dependent on my husband. He didn't treat me badly or anything, but I still felt like I had to ask his permission before I bought anything because it felt like it was him money, not mine. It made me feel like I was still a child in a way.
I know a lot of the women I socialized with back then felt trapped. They had husbands who wanted to control everything they did, almost as if they owned them. Some of them had allowances, like they were little kids. I'm sorry, but being dependent on another human being for everything is really not much of a life if you ask me. I'm very happy to be out in the workforce now, pulling my own weight.
