To clear something up

I believe this blog is more about the people here who come to chat than it is about some stupid sexist band. But, I like the fact that there is a place for everyone to vent about these particular sexists bands, as well as other issues that might be on your mind. I think this blog has grown a lot.

In the past few months we've seen another celebrity lose it and start screaming racist and sexist things (Mel Gibson) and there was some discussion about that too. I personally don't see too much of a difference between Mel Gibson screaming the N word and talking about rape and "bitches" MSI screaming the N word and talking about rape and "bitches". Hate speech is hate speech. Except Mel Gibson seriously wants to hurt people and MSI just seem to think it's funny. It still creates an atmosphere that welcomes hate and violence towards women, by laughing about it and thinking it's so funny.

One thing I want to say here is that I believe the regulars here are too smart to honestly believe that Gerard Way's hair color or other random things has anything to do with pregnancy. I see a lot of trolls coming in pretending to be "someone from VVs" and putting forward these ridiculous theories. I think they're trying to make people here look like they are illogical.

And I know that many people here have spoken out against calling them "fat" or "ugly". So many of you have posted over and over again how you don't care about that. You call people out on their behavior, and things they can help, things they do on purpose..... not how they look. That's what I like about this place.

But from what I can see a lot of the trolls keep bringing those things up, trying to reduce this blog to their level. I said it before and I'm saying it again. The regulars here are not like that and probably know what you're up to.

If you don't like it here, that's fine, you can stay at all your other blogs. Or you can enter into an intelligent conversation. But if all you have to offer is "LOL hair color = pregnancy" or "LOL that woman is FAT" then just know, officially, this blog doesn't welcome that and neither do the regulars.

I would like Kapunua to name who she said she "caught" anon.

Oh God. Anyone who was ever at Mayo's knows who that person was.

Stop trying to stir shit.

if she starts dressing in a schoolgirl uniform and (to quote a fan from that ONTD post) "has orgasms with her guitar", then I'll develop a problem with her real quick. Same as Lindsey.

Where did you see that? I don't remember seeing that at all.

Jeez, what is your deal? You sound like a broken record.

It wasn't "lies". I saw the comment. You had to read the other comments from that ONTD post, not just the one thread.

Most definitely, see below...

Siobhan said: "And it would be interesting to overhear a conversation with a teenage girl and her mother talking about Lady Gaga Hey, mom. I would like to go to school with only wearing my fishnet panty hose as a top and glittery stars on my nipples. Can I? Of course you can, honey, because Lady Gaga is talented. Have fun in school, darling!"

Anon 2:46 said: "Siobhan you're exaggerating. Do you think this would happen in the real world? I don't. I think the conversation would be more like... mom, I'm gonna drop out of school and join a band. Doesn't matter if I suck at it, the fact that I'm playing in a band is. And one day I'm going to find a big rawksta to take care of me. If my idol Lynz Way can do it, I can too."

Anon 6:27 a.m. said: "Wow. I do believe Siobhan just accused all you Lindsey haters of being JUS JELLUZ!!1! LMFAO."

Siobhan says: "I assume you know the difference of an actor playing a role and a singer? What kind of reasoning is that to prove your point by using Ewan McGregor in Velvet Goldmine as an example?
And don't come with the point that Gaga is playing a role on stage too. Then I could say that Lindsey does that as well."

Anon 11:04 a.m.: "You just contradicted yourself."

Deb says: Um, how...?

Anon 5:16 p.m. "All of a sudden she is 'playing a role.' You're entitled to your opinions Siobhan, which I may add I still don't agree with and think you are still missing the point, and being hypocritical."

###

Anon 1:39 p.m. said: "Plus I agree with Siobhan. It is hypocrisy to hide behind feminism when you have one set of rules for this person and one set for that person."

Anon 5:32 p.m. said: "You say that because the whole premise of your argument is you're soo jeallusz she married your idol which is really stupid illogical reasoning, and more to do with your own fantasies."

###

Anon 6:52 p.m. said: "It's OK for him to encourage adult women and men to fantasize about little schoolboys and possibly encourage paedophilia. He has talent unlike Lynz, MSI and MCR. It's wrong if they do it. /typical hypocrite logic"

Anon 6:44 p.m. 8/9 said: "no offence, but nobody here actually knows gerard way personally, so you shouldn't really judge him when you don't even know him! just saying..."

Anon 3:49 a.m. 7/24 said: "No offense Harley but how old are you?"

Anonymous said...

Okay, Dstarpro, I agree that some of those comments were dismissive, especially the ones saying "how old are you," etc., and some people got angry with Siobhan after she was so dismissive of their intelligent arguments, but you aren't saying that you agree with Siobhan that Lady Gaga is setting feminism back, etc., with her outfits... are you?

Anonymous said...

Those were just from this thread; there are way more in the others. I'm not trying to fan the flames at all, in fact, I do think the tone in here has been steadily improving, but the person asked for examples.

Anonymous said...

Most of the people arguing with Siobhan were very level headed and intelligent. Midway through, she started belittling them.

Anonymous said...

Also, do you agree with Siobhan that bands should be censored?

Anonymous said...

Anon 6:18, definitely not! Feminism, to me, is about women being able to do, say and look however the hell they like. If a woman wants to walk around half naked, she should be allowed to do so without incident. If I'm walking down the block with a friend and she scoffs "Hmph, look at the chick over there, she needs to put clothes on!" I always shrug and say "Good for her! Work it, Girl!"

There's a difference between being exploited and exploiting oneself. It may seem similar, but the latter is empowering - it's a choice that that woman is making to showcase her feminine wiles; she's not being taken advantage of. In that respect, it's no different than a man flaunting himself, so therefore, not a setback for feminism, but rather a step forward.

As far as I'm concerned, the only thing standing in the way of feminism is...us. Each other. The things that were said to Kapu here alone were cringeworthy, much less some of the more unsavory comments once made about Lindsey.

Whether or not we personally would follow another woman's path does not mean we shouldn't support her. Isn't the point that women should be visible, respected, looked up to, particularly by men? Unless a woman has committed some sort of vile act, I don't think it's for us to judge.

Lindsey is hardly the only person in music who isn't up to her ears in talent, but at least she admits it. I don't think it's fair to dismiss her as a poor role model for "flashing her panties" yet herald Gaga despite her doing the same because she's "more talented." I'm pretty sure that's the point that Siobhan was trying to make.

Anonymous said...

Siobhans issue was the double standards about Lindsay and Lady GaGa and how they dress on stage. There is a double standard when you condone using sexuality and skimpy outfits and attack another.

One may be more talented than the other but that doesn't change the fact both are using their bodies to sell CDs, tickets, etc.

Anonymous said...

And no, 6:20, I don't think that bands should be censored, but I agree that common sense should ideally be practiced offstage. It doesn't always work out for any of us (the person who said that twitter's character limit should be forcing us to rethink our posts forgot about twitlonger!) but we should strive toward it.

Anonymous said...

I like you dstarpro. You have a vaild point.

Anonymous said...

I have a question for Kapunua. You like Jared Leto and it's well known he's sexist. Why do you support him?

Anonymous said...

Thank you, 6:37 :-) 6:39, what's Jared said that was sexist? I don't follow TSTM anymore and I agree that the dude seems spacey, but I hadn't heard any negativity surrounding him.

kapunua said...

How is it "widely known" that he's sexist? Because he has a lot of sex partners? If a woman has a lot of sex partners, is she to be considered less moral, too?

AFAIK Jared has always been respectful to his female fans, treating them the same way he treats his male fans.

Dstarpro, a lot of the nonsensical arguments came from trolls. You may not wish to believe that because it would invalidate your argument, but there it is.

In other cases, some of the ones you quoted weren't nonsensical at all. Unless your definition of "nonsensical" is "something I don't agree with."

kapunua said...

I don't think it's fair to dismiss her as a poor role model for "flashing her panties" yet herald Gaga despite her doing the same because she's "more talented."

You conveniently forget about those of us who think she's a terrible role model because of the godawful, hate-filled lyrics her "band" spews, while she and her fans try to excuse them by calling "satire" or "U JUS DON GET IT" and the rest of the band is like, "Yeah, we talk like that 'cause we like to."

Or because it's clear to some of us that she used her high-profile marriage to further her pointless career.

Or that her idea of "feminism" is "I can't play my instrument, but I look cool. And yeah, here are my panties, see?"

You try to make it into one thing, when in fact it's many.

She's probably referring to him saying 'cunt' on that British TV show, even though he was asked to swear. He said that he knew the word was offensive but that he loved British swear words. I saw the clip and although I wish he hadn't said it, it wasn't that bad.

Jared was wonderful to me and my little sister who adores him when we saw them at TOC a few years back. He told the audience that they would stay and sign autographs for every single fan that wanted them even if it took all night. And he did. I didn't want to miss The Used so I told my sister we would catch him next time around, but even after The Used were done, 30stm was still there, signing away. He treated my sister with such respect, even though she was only 12 and obviously starstruck. I'll never forget that.

What about all you idiots who love Kings of Leotards? Their music is some of the most sexist I've ever heard. They even use the C-word in one of their songs and they sing about STDs.

Every city has their one or two "professional" photogs that are omnipresent at any radio or overly sponsored shows. The two of them, and a few others, lined up in the photography area and suffered through a ridiculously unnecessary 20 minute set by the Street Drum Corp before Jared Leto ascended to the stage, looking like a multi-colored goth warrior. After just one song, Jared screamed at the photographers for taking pictures of him tuning. We have no explanation for that one. Perhaps he wants his flock to think he isn't fallible enough to need to tune?
But then, halfway through song #2, he dove into the crowd, singing and surfing. Nice. On his way back? Stepped on one of the aforementioned " professionals", who happens to be a nice large, older lady, knocking her to the ground. It took no less than 3 security guards to get her back to her feet. Jared continued on with his anthem, not even blinking that he had used this poor woman as a step stool. Man, I can only hope there are pictures. Perhaps Jared has added concert photographers to his list of victims? Maybe he thought she was a blogger

Leto Slates The Killers.
16-02-2007 22:28
Leto Slates The Killers.... Hollywood hunk-turned-rocker Jared Leto has slated pop rivals The Killers - insisting they are just a pale copy of Depeche Mode.
The Jared Leto douchebag express through Sundance continues today amid reports that Leto thretened to smash a club goer over the head with a bottle.
Jared Leto's bizarre behavior continued this week when the actor-turned-rocker stirred things up at Harry O's Tao in Park City. While Hasidic hip-hop artist Matisyahu was performing, Leto unsuccessfully tried chatting up Michelle Smith (rumored girlfriend of Chris Robinson), then began bumping into people in the crowded venue as he headed back to his table. When a fellow patron told Leto to "relax," Leto grabbed a liquor bottle and held it above the guy's head. Spies said when bouncers asked Leto to leave, he responded by holding up a beer bottle as he was led out.

Jared Leto Attacks Fan With Microphone... Again
2/18/2008 By Brock Thiessen

Mistake No. 1: Actually going to see 30 Seconds to Mars.
Mistake No. 2: Getting within striking distance of Jared Leto as he bashes you in the face with a microphone.

As you may have guessed, actor Jared Leto, who moonlights as front-man for alt-rock act 30 Seconds to Mars, has shown his fan appreciation at a recent London gig by smokin’ a concertgoer with a mic.

According to reports, the attack in the British capital occurred during the “hit” song “Buddha for Mary,” which now goes: “He says — BAM! — ‘There’s a paradise beneath me.’” The beat-down can be viewed via YouTube here.

This attack follows an earlier violent outbreak from Leto, where he sucker-punched a fan at the PinkPop Festival in the Netherlands (if you want to skip through the awful performance and go straight to Jordan Catalano’s, er, Leto’s clichéd rock routine it happens at the 3:50 stage).

Perhaps this explains why no one catches him whenever he stage dives.

You know, to me, a "reliable source" is one that I've actually heard of. You know, like a real magazine maybe? Or at least a well-known Blog?

There have been rumors about Jared being a douchebag for years, but I've seen him 8 times and he's never been anything but gracious to the fans.

kapunua said...

He could very well be a douchebag. But how does that = "sexist?" You never did manage to answer that one.

Also the fact that, you know, I'd totally smoke someone in the facehole if they touched me inappropriately. Because unlike some, I don't find that "cool."

Actually "anon," I recognize you, and these links from a few years ago. You tried this once before, remember?

Anonymous said...

Should have known better than to ask Kapunua a question.

kapunua said...

Anonymous said...

If you bother to google Jared Leto douche you will find plenty of links. He hooks up with women and tosses them aside. Some are celebrities, some are not.

Anonymous said...

Your answer to the other anon was to accuse them of being one of the Lovelies.

kapunua said...

I'm so sure all those reports are true.

/sarcasm.

And I guess that answers my question: You think that because he has a lot of sex partners that = sexism. To me, it doesn't.

What does it mean if a woman has a lot of sex partners? Got a name for that, too?

Anonymous said...

Doesn't make it less valid.

He steps on an older woman, hits fans in the head with mics, tosses women aside when he's done with them.

He sounds like a real catch.

kapunua said...

Your answer to the other anon was to accuse them of being one of the Lovelies.

A) Learn to read. I answered your pointless questions.

B) I never accused you of being anyone in particular. I just said I remembered you doing this in the past.

Thanks, though. ;)

Anonymous said...

I do if they treat men the same way Jared treats women. I would have a problem with that too.

kapunua said...

I'm not trying to "catch" him.

Again, how does "many sex casual partners" = "sexist?"

Do you have a similar word for women who sleep with lots of different men?

Anonymous said...

You're doing the same thing you accuse MCR fans for. You're such a fan girl you overlook all the comments and posts from several sources. You don't want to admit you are a fan girl.

kapunua said...

I don't know how he treats them, or how they treat him - and it's not my business.

And it's retarded to go by internet rumors. I never did it with your dumbass idols and I don't do it with this band either. I go by what I see, and what's on record.

I saw your dumbass idol throwing his puke into the audience. I saw him telling a bunch of preteens to "actually f*** yourselves" and "make it convincing." Among his other hateful and ridiculous posturing.

MSI lyrics are right there for everyone to see (and hopefully not hear.)

kapunua said...

Uhh, I just showed you my reasoning. If anything, at one point I had even more respect for MCR, because of what they said they stood for. If I was a "fan girl" for anyone it would more likely have been them.

Your logic kinda fails.

Anonymous said...

I guess you think it's alright for you to dress like that, but if you happen to be successful it becomes "wrong" in your eyes.

So the thing that seperates you from LynZ is that she is a success and well know, and you are not.

This is another double standard you set up for yourself. If you or your friends or someone you like does it, then it's fine. But LynZ doesn't have the same rights as you.

And neither does Gerard.

Get over yourselves. He's just a rockstar married to another lame ass "musician" They don't give a damn about you and you defending them. It's not going to give you brownie points.

Not trying to pass judgment on the dude, just making a point. Some of the anons were right - had this been Gerard, Frank or Jimmy Urine, especially at that last clip, you'd be beside yourself. The scales have to tip both ways.

I can't look at the clips you posted because I have to work, but if indeed Jared Leto has done some of the things he's been accused of, I will have the same animosity towards him as I do Gerard and Frank. My guess is that Kapunua will probably feel the same way.

At one time people here, including myself and many others, still had respect for Frank and defended him as well, but that was before twitter. Now our opinions are different.

Like I said, I can't look at the clips right now but it's not like my opinion of him is set in stone. I liked Gerard Way once too.

One more thing and I have to go.

Dstarpro, you might also take a look at the responses that people who are arguing the "other side" logically get from random anons. Flip, nonsensical replies aren't limited to those of us who dislike MCR/MSI. Go look for responses calling us fat, stupid, freaks, etc., from MCR supporters. I think they probably outnumber the ones you have been pointing out.

7:28 said...

Okay, one more thing. Just to avoid any confusion, I was not the anon who told you to "look in the mirror." The "one more thing" related to the fact that I posted the comment immediately above the one at 7:28.

kapunua said...

My Dad used to do this funny thing. When people would be obtuse, and would make him repeat the same. damn. thing. OVER NINE THOUSAND times, he'd get really exasperated and make random hand gestures as he spoke very slowly, as if he were using Sign Language.

I wish I could do that over the internet.

Now, let this be for the last time, mmmkay?

LETO COULD VERY WELL BE A DOUCHEBAG. THAT DOES NOT = SEXISM.

D-baggery, while irritating, is not one of my buttons. It's not hate, misogyny, racism, homophobia, or exploitation. Everyone has moments. I have them.

MCR's list is cumulative. When you already see someone as such a disgusting SOB, you roll your eyes that much higher when they throw their puke at a group of people.

And I never claimed to be a fan of Madonna. Where did that even come from?

So, any time you guys feel like asking me this again, please direct your eyes to this post, and to the over nine thousand posts I made previously, last night.

Would you like me to say it in another language? I know some Hawaiian, a smattering of French and German... Or should I speak "Annoying," would you understand that?

kapunua said...

Now that that's out of the way, (yeah, right - as "out of the way" as anyone can get from a pit bull; I'm sure they'll be back for more no matter what,) funny story.

Leto actually shoved me once, pretty hard. I actually nearly lost my footing when he did it. He did it in a joking way and was laughing as he did so, and so was I, but dude is a little stronger than he looks. If I'd known there was going to be any substance to that tiny person I'd have gotten into my horse stance, haha. ;D (Nah he's not really tiny, just thin and occasionally manorexic. Gross.)

Bert McCrackhead shoved my cousin once so hard that I almost decked him. She was just a wee kidlet and she was standing in his path as he was acting up, trying to run somewhere with his tongue out and generally acting like a moron. It was after a concert, actually.

You kinda realize that in a mosh pit, at parties where people are slamming, crowd-surfing, or any kind of dancing, you're gonna get shoved, stepped on etc.

I saw one of the last Ramones shows, years ago. It was insane. I was in the floor section, not the stands, but I thought I was far enough away from the pit; a good forty yards back. Then the show started, and everyone behind me rushed the stage. It was like a riptide. Eventually some guy picked me up by the waist like I was a mannequin, and ran with me until I was in the pit. I don't think he even realized he did it. He just grabbed someone and ran.

I was at a show once where Leto shut down the entire concert, broke up th epit, and had the house lights turned on because I girl who had been trying to get on stage fell really hard and cut her lip.

Rock shows are insane.

Groping is where I draw the line.

kapunua said...

And no: you don't hold everyone to the same standard, naturally.

For example, I've always been the hugest fan of Joaquin Phoenix. I think he's massively talented and has always seemed like a really nice kid.

But lately, I'm super disappointed in him. The way he's acting up, being a jerk, and this pornish "movie" thing he's "working" on. It all just reeks.

However, because I've had a high opinion of him in the past, I'm more willing to think, "I wonder what's really going on here?" and be limited to disappointment and disgust, than if, say, Mel Gibson did the same exact thing.

Because Mel Gibson has already proved to me that he's a hate-filled racist / misogynist. So I automatically feel differently about everything he does.

7:28 said...

Okay, now that I've had the opportunity to look at the things that were posted, I have to say that I agree with Kapunua. I don't seen anything here in Jared Leto's behavior that says "sexist".

He's a rock star. He acts like a rock star onstage (i.e., stage diving, moshing, pushing, etc.).

This blog has never been about rock stars doing those types of things. If so, we'd be dissing nearly all of them. It's about the fact that in the beginning, MCR in effect said, "Hey guys. We're different. We respect women and we value our fans. We have the same values you do." And then they got famous and did a 180 on that.

I don't understand why it's so hard for people to understand that.

Moving on.

Has anyone read this article called Christian guys on immodesty, lust and the violence of women's bodies?

It's very interesting. Apparently we women are way too tempting, and should not do things like "act proud," stretch, bend over to tie our shoes, wear our purse strap across our chests, etc. This is all to "help men not treat us like objects."

Because you see, they can't be civil, and they can't be responsible for their own sins against us if we keep doing things like, you know, stretching! And wearing skirts!

An immodest lady is loud, proud, and dresses in a way that communicates such an attitude (male, age 24).

Burqa time!

Thoughts?

I live in the Bible Belt and I hear that kind of crap all the time.

I work with a lot of fundamentalist Christian women who let their husbands tell them how to dress. They have to ask permission to spend money from their husbands, despite the fact that they have jobs of their own! But every cent they earn goes into the joint account and the husband makes all the decisions.

One woman gets an "allowance" for clothes, groceries, etc. If she goes over her grocery allowance, the money comes out of her personal one.

Can you imagine?

I think there is a difference between being classy (but sexy) and gross.
And I also think our dear Lynz does not know anything about this difference.

I do not like L or Lady Gaga at all, and I do think they're both vulgar and talentless. Because Lady Gaga is just a business product. And if they both did what they did (for Lynz being almost naked and groped by the crow, for L Gaga being used as a shocking icon for money), they AGREED on what they were/are doing.

I believe this blog is more about the people here who come to chat than it is about some stupid sexist band. But, I like the fact that there is a place for everyone to vent about these particular sexists bands

What do you think VV? I know you thought Gerard Way's asking an audience to fake an orgasm and moan for him once was sexist.

Do you think Jared Leto singing the lyrics
I want you open mouthed and on your knees
I want you choked cuffed to my hand

is sexist. He's done it more than once.

Do you think him saying cunt on a radio show is as bad or worse than Bob Bryar taking a picture of the word cunt and posting the picture?

Some here have pointed out that Jared didn't call anyone a cunt. He just said the word on a radio show.

Bob didn't call anyone that either. He just posted a picture of the word and said it was his new artwork.

Do you think it's fair to call one man sexist and not the other? I don't.

Do you see the hypocrisy there?

I'm curious.

Anonymous said...

I've seen the show where Jared said "cunt". He was somewhat goaded into it and he admitted that he thought the word was offensive, but yes, even though I like him, I think he showed a lapse in judgment there.

If he sang those lyrics at a show, I don't care for them and I think he needs to be called out on that.

No he's not. He's singing a song lyric. That isn't asking someone to do something.

I'm not feeling that much of a difference.

Because you don't want to. One is a song lyric, not directed at anyone in particular, or if it is, then that's between them.
Did the girls in the audience immediately go and suck him off? Not that I'm aware of.

Gerard directed his words to his fans, not in a song lyric. He just told them what to do, and they did it. Then he informed them that they would be doing that for the rest of their lives.

And this is, like I said, cumulative.

One of my good friends had this great idea. He said, why not take Ground Zero and put up a church where all sects/cults went to worship. Christianity, Muslim, Judaism, Wiccan, everything under the sun.

It's a nice idea (apart from the fact that, yeah, I find religion silly and frivolous though quite powerful,) but it will never happen.

Incidentally, I think after all these years I have a pretty good handle on getting the feel of who certain anons are. If other people need to somehow prove it to themselves, or "out" them, I can't and won't comment on that.
