A funny pic for you guys.....

This is one for all of you who turned me on to Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
(It got cut off but it says "Every guy who is tired of hearing how cute and wonderful jgl is".)

I thought this was relevant to this blog's interests because "turning racist" (really misogynist) and/or getting involved with a racist band was obviously such a huge turning point, and was part of what created this blog and drawing everyone here. I also thought it was really funny.

But thank you JGL fans. For introducing me to a little movie called Brick. It was a masterpiece. I just watched Stop Loss recently and he was really good in that too.

Happy new year (sorry it's late) and I hope everyone is having a great year!

Wow, some of these girls on twitter are scary. All the talk of hitting people and retweeting #smashedface and #dieslow.

Frightening.

Some girl on tumblr posted a picture of someone firing a gun with the caption: When Someone Insults MCR.

I hope Gerard Fucking Way is proud of himself. The idiot.

If smashedfaces and dieslow is a joke, the fangirls didn't get it.

They're taking it seriously and actually making threats.

It's interesting who Siobhan has aligned herself with.

Anonymous said...

Typical Gerard. Sending little girls out to fight his battles for him.

Anonymous said...

He's such a wuss. If someone tried to smash his face, he'd cry like a little baby. Or go running to Lindsey to protect him.

Anonymous said...

I wub meercats too? What's wrong with that?

If someone tried to smash my face I'd go all badass kung fu on their ass.

More news on JGL in Dark Knight Rises.

Oh man. I can't wait for this movie. :D

Anonymous said...

If someone tried to smash my face or go all kung fu on my ass I'd just pull out my pistol and shoot them in self defense.
Problem solved real quick.

Anonymous said...

You and JGL are off topic 6:21. Try to keep up and stay on topic.

Anonymous said...

Fuck off, 6:24.

I just snagged this picture off lj.

See the resemblance?

This movie is going to be awesome. :)

Anonymous said...

Who the fuck cares about DNR? No body is going to care about that movie unless the Heath Ledger clone JGL dies of an accidental drug overdose shortly after filming is done.

I can see that happening and the dark knight curse rumours starting.

Anonymous said...

Like nobody cared about Inception?

You don't know what you're talking about, 6:31. So yeah. Fuck off.

Anonymous said...

What does Inception have to do with DKR?

Anonymous said...

What does Inception have to do with DKR?

They're both Christopher Nolan films.

Anonymous said...

The movie's going to suck. Everybody knows it.
JGL can't possibly live up to the legend of heath ledger no matter how much he tries.

Unless he dies too. Then he'll probably be nominated for an academy award. he still won't win. it's too soon after heath's performance and death nod.

Anonymous said...

Oh, okay. Thanks. I think JGL is hot. I haven't really seen many of his movies. Is Brick really as good as everyone says?

Anonymous said...

Inception. That's the Leonardo Dicaprio film.

Everybody knows that.

Anonymous said...

Is Brick really as good as everyone says?

It is. :)

Anonymous said...

Leo was screwed when he wasn't nominated for Titanic.

Anonymous said...

It's like everybody said. Kate Winslet was nomintated and half of her performance was Leo.

Anonymous said...

Poor Leo. He always gets passed over. Inception was supposed to be his film, but Tom Hardy, JGL, Cillian Murphy and even Ken Wantanabe stole the show from him. :(

Anonymous said...

*Watanabe

Anonymous said...

I loved Cillian Murphy in Inception. Too bad he's not coming back for Dark Knight Rises.

Anonymous said...

I thought Leonardo was phenomenal in What's Eating Gilbert Grape.

He was so good playing that retarded boy that you could smell him.

Literally.smell.him.

One of the single greatest performances I've ever seen.

Anonymous said...

I thought The Dark Knight was overrated. Iron Man was a much better film, imo.

Anonymous said...

He was good in Gilbert Grape. Oh, and Basketball Diaries too. When he was outside his mom's apartment and she wouldn't let him in? OMG, that was so heartbreaking.

Anonymous said...

I haven't seen Basketball Diaries or Brick. Both are available for streaming on Netflix. Which one would you watch tonight if you were me?

Anonymous said...

Leo always gets passed over? Thats news to me and to him.

He has received many awards, including a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor for his performance in The Aviator (2004). In addition, he has won a Silver Bear, a Chlotrudis Award and a Satellite Award among others, and has been nominated by the Academy Awards, Screen Actors Guild and the British Academy of Film and Television Arts.

If that's passed over JGL and Tom Hardy should be so lucky as to be passed over.

Anonymous said...

I would recommend Leo's performance in the basketball diaries over any performance in brick.

Anonymous said...

Sorry this sounds stupid but who is JGL?

Anonymous said...

I think they were talking about the Oscars. For some reason, nobody seems to care about any other award. I don't get it either, but that's the way it is.

Anonymous said...

outside his mom's apartment and she wouldn't let him in? OMG, that was so heartbreaking.

That was so powerful wasn't it?

Anonymous said...

Sorry this sounds stupid but who is JGL?

Um, look at this post? Joseph-Gordon Levitt. Or click on the JGL line right above you?

Anonymous said...

Personally, I'd watch Brick. Basketball Diaries is a great film, and Leo was awesome in it, but it's really depressing.

Brick was clever and fun. It's got some depressing parts too, but it's really good film-making.

It scares me to see young girls believe this.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for your input guys. I think I'll watch Brick because I've seen Leo in a lot of movies, but not JGL.

Anonymous said...

So when their idol says he wants to smash a girl in the face it's fine. What about if they get into a relationship and he says the same thing to them they don't believe it and he actually does it?

Anonymous said...

Lol at the idiot telling Ashly she shouldn't take Gerard's tweets out of context.

Like it's okay to threaten someone with bashing in their face in any context. :/

Anonymous said...

Is it any wonder things are going backwards?

kapunua said...

WHAT 6:54 SAID! I can't say enough about Brick. It is incredible.

Basketball Diaries is also incredible but in a different way. Performance is heartbreaking, but you kinda have to have fortitude to watch it.

If you can stand it, have a go at Mysterious Skin but GO INTO IT WITH TRIGGER WARNINGS. It is a story about rape - rape completely without redemption at the end, but also mind that there are a few scenes that go way beyond that, and are very difficult to watch.

BUT WATCH BRICK.

Also, a twelve-minute film just released today, with Tom Hardy: Sargeant Slaughter, My Big Brother. THIS IS A VERY NAKED FILM.

I'm excited for TDKR just because two actors I like are going to be in it. I have no clue about Batman or who the villains are, I just hope they get screen-time together. ^_^

Anonymous said...

I liked angelcrossmarie's comment on the BN post. She talks about how the very same girls who say "OMG, MCR saved my life!" and who act like Gerard's words are so meaningful are the very ones defending his hate speech. This is true.

Anonymous said...

Oooh, Tom Hardy and naked in the same sentence?

*goes to watch*

Anonymous said...

I agree so much about Mysterious Skin. If I like a film, I usually watch it multiple times, but I could only watch MS once. JGL was brilliant in it, and I really do think it's a film that people should see, but I will never, ever watch it again.

Anonymous said...

K find some nakeed Ewan McGregor and you've made my day!

Anonymous said...

So does JGL play a rapist in Mysterious Skin?

kapunua said...

7:16, THE PILLOW BOOK. Ewan's nakie for most of that film, from, like, every angle. O_O

7:17, that's a tough question to answer. No, not really; it's more like he's the constant victim of assault from childhood on, and as an adult, it turns really graphic. There is one scene where the actor playing his younger self abuses another child and it's literally the most horrific scene I've ever seen in a film. Second most horrific: the scene with him as an adult (or teenager really.) They had to film the movie so that the child actors weren't even in the same room as the other actors and then use effects to make it look as if they were.

Anonymous said...

Thanks K! That sounds like a must see.

Nothing wrong with a naked man.

kapunua said...

Yeah, absolutely naked EXCEPT FOR THE HAT AND KNIFE-HOLSTER.

The Pillow Book was one strange film. I wish I'd liked it more than I did, but I am such a fan of the actual Pillow Book (hence my LJ name) that the movie just kind of made me go O_O . I think I might have enjoyed it more if I hadn't expected it to have something to do with Sei Shonagon. :)

Anonymous said...

Wow, an intelligent post on BN. Is this a sign of the apocalypse?

Lol. That's what I thought too. :)

Anonymous said...

Peter Greenaway is an acquired taste though the visuals (and the naked Ewan) look stunning!

Anonymous said...

I quite liked that, Kapunua. Thanks for posting the link. ^_^

kapunua said...

My pleasure. Literally! ^_^

yes, Pillow Book I can imagine would take some getting used to. If I wasn't so crazy about Ewan and, well, about Heian Japan (which really didn't make an appearance) then I might not have given it a shot. :)

Anonymous said...

I'm going to be very superficial and say I will watch it and just enjoy Ewan, I mean the visuals ^_^

Anonymous said...

There is one scene where the actor playing his younger self abuses another child and it's literally the most horrific scene I've ever seen in a film.

I have to agree with that. I was so horrified I almost didn't watch the rest. I was also horrified by the scene where JGL's character tells Brian how much fun it is to be abused by their coach. It makes me shudder just thinking about it.

Most people talk about that other scene (the one with adult JGL), but as horrific as it was, the ones with the children are the hardest to watch.

Anonymous said...

I'm going to watch too. Naked Ewan is always a treat. ;)

Anonymous said...

What was papalani responding to out of curiosity? Was it Gerard's c-word bio? I just want to make sure I didn't miss anything.

Anonymous said...

I don't think anyone is here. They're all off watching naked man movies.

kapunua said...

7:45, that's how I felt too. I'll be honest, when I saw that one scene with them as little kids (on Halloween) I hid my eyes and didn't watch till the end. Way too difficult.

The scene with JGL, I more or less looked away for that part, too. As soon as the guy started hitting him, I was like "Nope, can't do it." It's terrible to say, but the most amazing part of the film is the look in his eyes when he locks himself in the bathroom, and then I pretty much covered my eyes for the rest of that, too.

Ugh. Nightmares for weeks.

Anonymous said...

I don't think anyone is here. They're all off watching naked man movies.

Aha, even better than shopping.

Anonymous said...

Aw, man, when that guy started hitting JGL with the shampoo bottle -- I'll never be able to look at a bottle of baby shampoo without remembering that. It was that powerful. :(

Anonymous said...

The Halloween scene was just so fucking disturbing. I mean, yeah, a kid who had been so abused would act out, but you just don't expect something so horrible. It was definitely nightmare-inducing.

Anonymous said...

Google image-ing "Mysterious Skin" doesn't really show anything too bad.

Anonymous said...

Wait, never mind. yes it does.

OK I'm trying to decide if I should watch this movie.

kapunua said...

One thing about that movie, it took rape seriously and didn't make a joke out of it. It showed how NOT FUNNY and NOT JOKEWORTHY child abuse is.

Anonymous said...

It did take rape and child molestation seriously, that's for sure.

Anonymous said...

Oh, I'm not clicking that link. Like I said, I can't even look at a baby shampoo bottle anymore. I'm afraid of what I might see. :/

Anonymous said...

I looked it up on youtube and found it in German. I'm not sure if I can watch that rape scene, I skipped ahead about halfway through and it looks too... realistic.

Anonymous said...

Well that's pretty stupid. Are you saying that shampoo bottles actually traumatize you? No wonder you are all so bent out of shape by Gerard's harmless tweets.

kapunua said...

Ugh, anon, I just can't. :( I'd prefer to be able to sleep tonight. And, ever again.

Anonymous said...

Fuck off, 8:13.

The rape scene is very brutal and realistic, 8:12.

Anonymous said...

JGL looks really young in that picture. How old was he when he made Mysterious Skin?

I'm kind of intrigued. I think I'll watch it.

kapunua said...

I actually saw Mysterious Skin in the same week that I saw The Girl With THe Dragon Tattoo. That one was equally hard to watch and I looked away for the one scene in that, too. Noomi Rapace (spelling?) was amazing in that film. She's my only Lisbeth. :)

THe thing that separated the two movies for me was the fact that Lisbeth actually picks up the pieces and gets her revenge. That doesn't make the scene any easier to watch, but she destroys in return and you get the gratification of her anger, and her victory.

With Mysterious Skin, you just see the devastation and I can't even take that.

The same went for Tom Hardy in the movie Stuart - A Life Backwards. That one is available for free on youtube,by the way. It also deals with the fallout of child abuse / sexual assault and is emotionally gutting. Although Stuart also had moments of humor and real sweetness in it, too. Tom Hardy is really something else in that. I mean really something else; he's almost unrecognizable.

Well, all three movies deal with rape in quite different ways, all three are performed unflinchingly by the entire casts. But all three ultimately show how not funny, not jokey, not humorous, and totally real rape is.

kapunua said...

I think he was in his early 20's or something. Not sure what year it came out. He just turned 30 and Mysterious Skin came before Brick. I wanna say he was maybe 22, 23?

Anonymous said...

Holy shit did he hit him with a knife handle, I think I just threw up. I don't think I can watch that movie.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, the thing that was most disturbing about Mysterious Skin was how the assault completely permeated everything in both boys' lives, but in very different ways. Neither one of them could have normal relationships, and there didn't seem to be any relief in sight.

I tried to tell myself that at least they found one another, but it didn't help much.

kapunua said...

It really didn't; there was no redemption. Nothing was going to get fixed.

8:27 I honestly don't remember.

Anonymous said...

Ooh Benedict Cumberbatch. I love him. I'm going to watch Stuart, A Life Backwards. I don't think I could take Mysterious Skin.

kapunua said...

Stuart is really a fantastic movie, painful and humorous and brutal and gentle by turns.

Anonymous said...

You can't be fixed with abuse, you let go. You also have to be aware that the abuse has distorted your lens.

kapunua said...

Oh, I just heard back from Twitter, an automated reply. They say that they consider all reports of threats and harassment, whether celebrity or not. But they also can't act on anything unless the person being harassed files a ticket.

However part of my complaint was the misogynist nature of his ever-changing bio, so who knows? All I know is that I said what I had to say.

Anonymous said...

Maybe YOU should stop harassing GERARD.

Anonymous said...

_LexiWright_ should file a complaint. So should papalani, but for some reason I don't think she will.

I'm just happy to see more people realizing what an asshole he is.

Anonymous said...

8:47 do you expect people with power and money to do and say anything? They are pretty privileged to have the life they lead and if part of that life means being on your best behavior I can't see what the problem is.

Anonymous said...

8:47 you are also feeding his egotism.

I'm just happy to see more people realizing what an asshole he is.

Me too. That post from BN was pretty enlightening. It's good to see that not all MCR fans are sheep.

This.

I've seen tweets where fans are giving textbook definitions of misogyny and saying things like, "How can Gerard be for keeping women down when he has a wife who is an artist?" Or "how can he be a misogynist when he has a daughter?" Like, just because he "allows" his wife to have a career or because he's the father of a girl, he's automatically exempt from thinking that women are inferior.

And just because you're a woman doesn't mean you can't be a misogynist. Some of the worst ones I know are women.

The majority of misogynist men I know will look you right in the eye and tell you they love women. They honestly don't think that seeing them as second class citizens is wrong.

It makes me mad.

To be fair, I think a lot of those girls come from countries where misogyny is the rule, so they probably do think it's awesome that Gerard allows his wife to have a career.

But yeah, it is said that they don't even recognize that they themselves see women as inferior to men.

Oh gosh - I do. In the store the other day I randomly just up and round-housed the grocer. I didn't realize we weren't supposed to. I feel so silly now. My bad!

Umm, so I fight pretty regularly with my training brothers and sisters and once in a while accidents happen where someone gets hurt. I still don't consider this "real life" violence because there is (usually) no intent behind it and you're just doing it to learn, and to help the other person learn and in a way, it is a kind of bonding.

When there is intent behind it, yes, sometimes your answering strikes can get a little out of hand and it can escalate. However, that is rare and it's not how it's supposed to be.

I've never done karate myself, just Kung Fu and a bit of kickboxing.

Many countries still have very traditional roles for girls but lets not kid ourselves there is a long way to go before women are respected as equals, by men and themselves.

I'm so thrilled that JGL will be playing Alberto Falcone in The Dark Knight Rises. He's one of the most intriguing villains in the Batman comics. He's smart, educated, and just brimming with Daddy and sibling rivalry issues. And he kills bad guys. He's complicated and of course, insane, yet vulnerable. I'm also counting on him being dressed in lovely, gangster-style three piece suits. ;)

Sounds like the perfect role for JGL to play. I can't wait.

Screeching Weasel frontman Ben Weasel devoted much of a nearly 50-minute South by Southwest performance to humor-laced ranting, railing often against the media and the yearly Austin, Texas, festival and conference. It's "a carnival of schadenfreude" Weasel said of SXSW, and repeatedly said he regretted coming.
Yet the contentious atmosphere turned more aggressive by show's end, with Weasel ultimately jumping into the crowd, allegedly to confront a woman who had hit him in the face with ice.

Another woman, who security staff said was one of the venue's owners, ran on stage to break up the fight. Weasel was soon dragged off the stage by security. He left the venue before he could be tracked down by reporters, and has not yet returned a call requesting comment.

Police were called to Austin's Scoot Inn, and the venue's talent buyer, Rufas Raxlen, offered to give them Weasel's license plate number. The two women involved in the scuffle had left the premises, however, and therefore no police action was taken. The beloved punk rock band is currently scheduled to appear Saturday night in San Antonio, about 80 miles south of Austin.

During the band's performance of its poppy 1996 outsider anthem "Cool Kids," Weasel was hit in or near the eye with a chunk of ice thrown by a woman, and then offered to fight the offender.

Saturday night's San Antonio Screeching Weasel concert has been cancelled, the announcement coming about 12 hours after lead singer Ben Weasel was removed from an Austin, Texas, venue after an altercation with a female fan. Screeching Weasel had been on the comeback trail of late, having just released its first new album in 11 years, but the act's first-ever performance at the South by Southwest music festival and conference ended with a fistfight.

Saturday's San Antonio concert was to be held at the White Rabbit. During the band's SXSW appearance, Weasel had bragged that his band was to receive a $25,000 guarantee to appear at the San Antonio venue, and griped that the act was receiving only $250 for its SXSW appearance.

Police were called to Austin's Scoot Inn, where the band was performing as part of a showcase of Fat Wreck Chord bands. No action, however, was taken at the venue, as Weasel and the two women involved in the fracas had all left the scene. The Austin Police Department on Saturday was unable to reveal whether or not charges had been filed. The department's public information officer on-call was only able to discuss Saturday matters and said to call back during business hours.

Additionally, numerous calls to Scoot Inn went unanswered. A spokeswoman for Fat Wreck Chords said the label will release no official statement, but said, "Obviously, we don't condone violence, ever. We weren't impressed." The label, she said, has had zero contact with the band since the incident occurred.

I would ask all the South American girls that think we are fake feminists, deliberately baiting GW sexists, so on and so forth how their lives are going. Can they support themselves financially? Are they in a job that recognizes and pays them on the same level as a men doing the same work, because then they would have a reasonable quality of life. Or are they still living with their parents with not many future prospects for themselves.

Anonymous said...

I would ask them, how would it feel to be punched in the face by a man who thinks you deserve it because you have a vagina? How would it feel to be raped and then blamed for 'baiting' the rapist in court? These are the cold hard facts of reality for women and men, sorry, maggots like Gerard Way and his sexist bandmates promote these 'norms' by speaking about women the way they do.

If anyone's 'baiting' anyone, it's those fools in MCR with their racism and their jokes about forced abortions and hitting women. Think about that for a second.

I'm also counting on him being dressed in lovely, gangster-style three piece suits. ;)

Gadhafi vows 'long war' after US, allies strike

Reuters –
By HADEEL AL-SHALCHI and RYAN LUCAS, Associated Press – 1 min ago

TRIPOLI, Libya – A defiant Moammar Gadhafi vowed a "long war" after the U.S. and European militaries blasted his forces with airstrikes and over 100 cruise missiles, hitting air defenses and at least two major air bases early Sunday, shaking the Libyan capital with explosions and anti-aircraft fire.
Despite the strikes, Gadhafi's troops lashed back, bombarding the rebel-held city of Misrata with artillery and tanks on Sunday, the opposition reported.
The nighttime barrage, mainly by U.S and British ships and submarines, marked the widest international military effort since the Iraq war. The international air assault came as Gadhafi's overwhelming firepower was threatening to crush the month-old rebellion against his 41-year rule. State television said 48 people were killed in the strikes

* * *
"We promise you a long war," he said.

He called the international assault "simply a colonial crusader aggression that may ignite another large-scale crusader war."

The whole world is coming unglued.

Nonnie, have you ever seen The Brothers Bloom? It's by Rian Johnson, the same guy who wrote and directed Brick. In it, the main character tells a girl, "You don't want to kiss me, you only think you want to kiss me, because he wrote me as the vulnerable anti-hero." ('He' being the character's older brother, who writes roles for them to play in scams.)

Anyway, it's my considered opinion that no one writes this trope these days like Rian Johnson does - especially when he's writing with Joe in mind.

They're filming a movie together now, a time-travel sci-fi assassin story called Looper.Rian wrote the script with Joe in mind; in fact as of the script that I read (sorry! I downloaded it when it got leaked!) the main character is actually named Joe. ^_^

Joe is a Looper - that is to say, an assassin who kills people who are sent back from the future, in order to hide the bodies. All loopers eventually have to "close their loop" which means to kill their older self, when their time is up. Then they get lots of money and can retire and do what they want.

But when all of Joe's looper-friends start having to suddenly close their loops, and one of them fails, and runs to him begging for help, he starts to grow a conscience. IT IS A BEAUTIFUL CHARACTER ARC.

Eventually Joe has to close his own loop, and his older self beats the crap out of him and runs away. So then Young Joe has to run for his life, which he does while trying to detox from drugs and is rescued by a woman at a farmhouse who alternately saves his life and tries to kill him. She's got a young boy living with her who is somehow the key to all of this, and Joe should be afraid of him, but instead they start to bond and Joe starts to wonder how far he's willing to go, and how much he can sacrifice, to protect this little kid.

Anyway, I know that's confusing, but I don't want to say too much more about the plot because it's so amazing my heart was pounding as I was reading it. I must have read it about six times by now.

Well the point is that Joe, the character, is specifically written as a total badass in a 1920s 3-piece suit (script makes a point of saying that he loves to dress like that even if it's not "cool") and Joe is deadly and cold and the smartest of all the loopers. But he's also willing to put himself at risk of death to help his friend. And he spends about 70% of the script sick and bloody and running and still trying to figure out what is right, instead of taking the easy way out.

I feel like Rian Johnson's cornered the market on the vulnerable anti-hero, and when he's writing with JGL in mind in the first place, it's going to be brilliant. He tapdances on every single one of my squee-buttons with his characters. And the way he directed Joe in Brick is enough to tell you that he knows perfectly well how to get the whole break the badass trope going down - no one directs Joe the way Rian does, is my opinion. They are the best team. He gets right down to Joe's fearless vulnerability, because no one knows how to work that like Joe. You know he's going to get his ass kicked, and you know he's going to keep going anyway.

OMG. I don't even have words, I AM OUT OF WORDS.

WHAT IS THIS POST. I DON'T KNOW.

Anyway I have to run, sorry this is so rushed. ^_^

You have no idea how I have wanted to say exactly this. I was a bit uncomfortable singling out a group of fans, but having been on twitter and read the comments from the same girls that I know you are talking about, everything you say is true. I just didn't know how to word it.

I feel very sorry for those girls. You can tell by their tweets that they just fundamentally do not get the tenets of feminism. It is such a foreign concept to them.

Many of them are well past their teenage years, yet they are living with parents they don't get along with and just seem to be waiting for their lives to begin, even though they have no real prospects for said life, other than a man coming along to sweep them away. It's very, very sad.

Well, Gerard didn't actually hit a woman. He just threatened to 'smash her face in'.

However, might Gerard hit a woman? It's very probable he might eventually hit one. He doesn't show any respect for them by threatening to kill one, does he? #dieslow

I have a 20 year old daughter who is studying for her degree in Accounting/International Business. She will graduate with honors next year and she plans to go to grad school for a year, after which she will be able to sit for the CPA exam. She will probably earn six figures in less than ten years after she graduates. (Incidentally, she posts here on occasion.)

Am I a fake feminist? I don't think so. I taught my daughter at a very early age that she would have to be responsible for herself in this world. I never used the phrase, "When you get married," but "If you get married." Instead, I would always say, "When you go to college...".

I know that my daughter will probably face some discrimination out there in the workplace, and I have tried to prepare her for that. But, will she have to depend on a man to take care of her? Hell no. And she won't find herself trapped in an abusive relationship with no way out because of finances and kids.

I wish all daughters were brought up with this attitude, but it is clear from the comments I have read on twitter that this is not the case.

This non-fake feminist feels horrible for those poor, misguided girls.

Anonymous said...

You have to admit, Gerard had some great timing with his idiotic #smashedface #dieslow shtick, considering that he pulled his little stunt the same night that Ben Weasel did.

It makes him look even more like an ass than he already did.

Anonymous said...

Well, looking at the disgusting comments by the mcrmy at those two girls, I hope Gerard feels proud of himself. I just hope one day Bandit doesn't have to deal with a thirty-something needledick idiot threatening to smash her face in and kill her.

You know how I define a 'fake feminist'? Someone who goes on about 'women on women hate' yet plays songs that mock women being molested, and watches on silently while her husband bullies and threatens teenagers who dare to speak out against his misogynistic words.

That's a fake feminist.

Anonymous said...

I wonder if Gerard would want Bandit to blindly support some assclown of a rockstar who threatened to smash the face of a woman and who calls teenage girls the c-word? Does he not realize that seeing her father behave this way is setting her up to accept that this is the way men behave toward women?

He needs to think about the consequences of his behavior, not only to his career, but to his family as well.

Just curious, 8:36. How does your daughter feel about the use of the word c*nt? Does she use it? Is she one of those girls who thinks it's okay to call her friends that but a man can't use it? Many girls in her age bracket feel that way.

Anonymous said...

Is there an equivalent word for c*nt in other languages? Like, say, Spanish and Portuguese?

The reason I bring this up is I'm wondering if English is a second language for some of the girls defending MCR. Maybe the word in their language doesn't carry the same connotations that it does in English?

Anonymous said...

They all speak English well enough to bully people on twitter who speak out against Gerard. The problem isn't language. The problem is that they're pig-ignorant about the root and context of that word, and too overinvested and defensive to educate themselves about it. Gerard says it, so it must be acceptable!

After reading the buzznet comments I find the majority of the replies incredibly ignorant and as usual they have twisted Gerard's response to appear as if he defended himself against ridicule about his wife and child when in fact it had NOTHING to do with it.

The Buzznet comments are hilarious, because they show the state of this band's fanbase and the kind of sexist vapid fuckwits which make it up. I'm sure Jessicka would be spinning in her grave if she were dead.

The problem I have always had with Jessicka is that I find her arguments about feminism and fatism etc are very limited and one sided. If she were really trying make real ground on these issues it would be far more encompassing. And of course she doesn't appear very credible in my eyes with the company she keeps no matter how much she tries to justify it.

A lot of the MCRmy drones are making the argument that there is no difference between the word 'dick' and the c-word as an insult. They say we have a screwed up idea of what feminism is, and that we want to be treated better than men -- hence the difference in our reactions to the use of those two words.

What they don't seem to understand is that the two words do not mean the same thing when used as an insult.

When a man or a woman calls a man a 'dick' they are essentially calling him an insensitive asshole. The term probably originated with the idea that men often think with their sexual organs instead of their brains. Regardless, nobody is questioning a man's intrinsic worth when they call him a dick. Just his character or his actions.

The c-word has a completely different meaning when used as an insult, especially when a man uses it. It is used to tell a woman that she is essentially worthless except for her function as a sexual outlet for men. She is reduced to her sex organs. This is the original meaning of the term when used as a slur, and for men and many women (especially in the US), it still carries that hateful, self-esteem crushing meaning.

Maybe some of these girls don't understand that. Maybe some of their misunderstanding comes from the fact that they haven't really been exposed to the term in its original context. But for those of us who have, we aren't expecting to be treated 'better' than men. We just don't want to be reduced to nothing more than living, breathing sex toys.

Men have always had more privilege in the world than women. Women were treated as possessions and slaves for centuries, and they still are in some parts of the world. Therefore, we are still very sensitive to those types of slurs. Men don't have the same experiences, and therefore they are not sensitive to the word 'dick'. Just like blacks are sensitive to the word 'n*gger', but for whites it can't possibly have the same meaning.

Why is it so difficult for these silly MCR fangirls to comprehend that?

Cunt (pronounced /ˈkʌnt/) is a vulgarism, primarily referring to the female genitalia,[1] specifically the vulva, and including the cleft of Venus. The earliest citation of this usage in the 1972 Oxford English Dictionary, c 1230, refers to the London street known as Gropecunt Lane. Scholar Germaine Greer has said that "it is one of the few remaining words in the English language with a genuine power to shock."[2]
"Cunt" is also used informally as a derogatory epithet in referring to a person of either sex, but this usage is relatively recent, dating back only as far as the late nineteenth century.[3] Reflecting different national usages, the Compact Oxford English Dictionary defines "cunt" as "an unpleasant or stupid person", whereas Merriam-Webster has a usage of the term as "usually disparaging & obscene: woman",[4] noting that it is used in the US as "an offensive way to refer to a woman";[5] the Macquarie Dictionary of Australian English defines it as "a despicable man", however when used with a positive qualifier (good, funny, clever, etc.) in countries such as Britain, New Zealand and Australia, it conveys a positive sense of the object or person referred to.[6]
The word appears to have been in common usage from the Middle Ages until the eighteenth century. After a period of disuse, usage became more frequent in the twentieth century, in parallel with the rise of popular literature and pervasive media. The term also has various other derived uses and, like "fuck" and its derivatives, has been used mutatis mutandis as noun, pronoun, adjective, participle and other parts of speech.

Referring to men
Frederic Manning's 1929 book The Middle Parts of Fortune, set in World War I, is a vernacular account of the lives of ordinary soldiers and describes regular use of the word by British Tommies. The word is invariably used to describe men:
And now the bastard's wearin' the bes' pair slung round 'is own bloody neck. Wouldn't you've thought the cunt would 'a' give me vingt frong for 'em anyway?
What's the cunt want to come down 'ere buggering us about for, 'aven't we done enough bloody work in th' week?[45]
Whilst normally derogatory in English-speaking countries, the word has an informal use, even being used as a term of endearment. Like the word fuck, use between youths is not uncommon, as exemplified by its use in the film Trainspotting, where it is an integral part of the common language of the principal characters.[46]

My daughter and I just had a very interesting discussion about this, and this is what she told me.

Having grown up in a southern town in the United States where the word is still considered completely taboo, she was never really exposed to the c-word until she got on the internet. When she first saw the word, it was in the context of describing female genitalia, and she said she had no particular feelings about it, other than she liked it better than the word p*ssy.

Later, she learned that many of her female Brit friends online used it jokingly with one another, but when she found out what it means here to be called that by a man, her feelings about the word changed. She doesn't use it. She says she doesn't mind when a British person says it female to female, but if a guy ever calls her that, she'll write him off completely.

She also said that Gerard Way is a total douchebag who should be ashamed of himself because he's a 33 year old man acting like a 15 year old. She said he has no business threatening violence to anyone, male or female, either on or off the internet.

Hope that answers your question.

It's just a word. It only has power if you give it power.

Men could get just as angry over dick or prick, but they don't. It is sexist for women to think they can use those terms but men can't use cunt.

kapunua said...

WOW, you have completely ignored every word on this page, 5:56.

I'm not sure how else it can be broken down. I'll try to use tinier sentences than the others have used. Let's see.

Men are in power in the world. White men particularly. Got that so far? They are not subjugated as women have been. They do not have the same world view as women have. Their experiences have been different. They can't know what it's like to be a minority.

Got it? With me? I really, honestly don't know how to make it any simpler!

Therefore, men cannot be oppressed by such words. Because women, as a whole, cannot and have never oppressed men, as a whole. If men don't get angry over those words (and some do,) it's because they have a world view that comes from being the dominant animal on the planet.

This is for the same reason that a white person can't "take back" racial slurs for minorities. That's one hell of a lot of nerve. It's also why words directed towards whites, particularly men, do not and can't have the same weight as those directed toward women and minorities.

Are they nice words to say? No. But it's impossible for them to have the same weight as slurs against minorities and women.

I don't know how else to break this down.

It is usually used with the intent to offend, and so for me it does.

I really question Lindsey's motives when she constantly posts pictures of her daughter for the fan sheep. She could have sent the picture to Alicia privately, but then she wouldn't have received the attention, would she?

Twitter is all about the attention. Tweeting between celebrities can rub me up the wrong way. I understand using twitter as a way of promoting things, that is equally beneficial for the fan and celeb alike. But when a celeb tweets another celeb, (when they could have done it privately via text or phonecall) purely for the attention, well that just annoys me.

However when Nick Frost and Simon Pegg have a bit of comedic banter on twitter that is enjoyable to read. They tend not to come off as attention seeking tools, which they aren't.

Also PDA via twitter makes me want to puke. That is why I stopped following Neil Gaiman and Amanda Palmer. I don't want to read her tweeting him "Goodnight baby, love you" and vice versa all the time. Fair enough, they may have been in different countries at the time but they have each other's phone number FFS. I just don't get it.

There's always a certain type who doesn't feel that the c-word is offensive to women as well -- ignorant, self-hating women who think that the most important thing in the world is "getting" a man. The ones who can't really take care of themselves, usually.
