The art of defending racism

Someone sent me a great link in my inbox today that I want to share with you all. These are a lot of the excuses we hear from the MSICR camp and defenders...

The Art of Defending Racism

Saying or doing something racist will come naturally to you- but defending it? You’ll want to use one of the following tactics. ...

Tactical options:

A. It’s not that serious

1. We didn’t know better (and we never will)
2. You’re too sensitive
3. It’s not a big deal because it’s just (a movie, a song, a book, words, etc.)
4. Why should we care? (You don't matter anyway)
....

B. But!

...
7. We’re not discriminating AS MUCH (as other people/as we used to), isn’t that good?!? Give me a cookie.
...

C. Dismissal!

1. You’re oppressing me by making me be “PC”
2. You’re too stupid to be in this conversation and everything you say doesn’t matter
3. Racism is over now
4. If we don’t talk about it, it’ll magically go away
5. Under my definition- it’s not racist
6. You’re too angry/You’re being irrational
...

Denial of impact:

Denial of impact involves a person avoiding thinking about or understanding the harms their behavior have caused to themselves or others. By doing this, that person is able to avoid feeling a sense of guilt and it can prevent that person from developing remorse or empathy for others.

This is a really old link but it's pretty good and it reminded me of some of what people say here in defense of these people.

I think the same thing goes for misogyny and homophobia presented in these lyrics, comments and lifestyles too.

Secondly, I don't think you understood my meaning when I used the Madonna/Britney kiss as an example for bad behavior from stars.

I misunderstood you? Oh, sorry. Because when you said:
but seriously, haven't we seen bigger and more influential stars do worse things onstage? e.g- the Madonna/Britney kiss?

I must have misunderstood the word "worse" and thought you meant "worse." You can see, RT, where I'd confuse the two words "worse" and "worse."

Then you went on to say two things:

I agree MSI's "Panty Shot" is a disgusting song, but the majority of people haven't even heard it.

And

Kapuna, I don't think this blog is so famous that my words are going to really offend anyone.

I see what you're saying. So it's not what you say that counts, but how many people have access to it. For instance, you offended me with your "two girls kissing is worse than MSI lyrics / two girls kissing would confuse young people..." But, since it was just me and a few other people, that's okay.

I guess that if you only a few homosexuals hear the song "F****" or only a few women get called bitches, whores, and told to f*** themselves and moan for some rock star (I guess here "a few" = "a few thousand" but that's beside the point,) well then, hey, you have to break a few eggs.

Your point boils down to "it only counts if it's really, really, really famous. Hurting a handful of obscure people – that's okay."

WOW.

Oh, and you, with all the hyperbole I've come to expect of these defenders, asked why we were all "DETERMINED TO HATE ON GEE AND LYNZ!!!1111"

Well, I guess the same reason I'm "OMG DETERMINED TO HATE!!!1111" Anne Coulter, Bill O'Reilly, Carl Paladino, Mel Gibson, Rush Limbaugh etc.

Let me get one thing clear. I have absolutely NO problem with a girl kissing a girl. BUT when it's done in front of millions of people around the world just to stir up controversy that's where I have a problem. That's why I said it was worse, because they did it for attention, not because they were in love with each other. Maybe it wasn't such a great example to use seeing as how you guys got so confused.

Also, maybe what I said was harsh, but I stick by it. MSI aren't that famous and never will be. Their music will never reach a large audience. As far as I'm concerned they are not even relevant. Also, sadly no-one can stop them from making the type of music they do. It's the whole freedom of speech thing, right? The only thing you can do and not be offended by them is to stop listening to their songs, stop paying them attention and stop spreading their name across the internet. You can't physically go out and get rid of them, the only thing you can do is ignore them. I mean, why listen to music that you KNOW will offend you?

Why don't you start a separate blog on these guys as well then? Why stop at Gerard and Lindsey? You could dissect their every tweet, change of hair color, children's names, career moves, choice of spouse, how they spend their money, whether you think they drink/do drugs or not, etc, etc, on it.

It's funny how anyone who leaves a comment here that differs from your opinion is regarded as "nonsense". I definitely see similarities with the crazed MCR fanatics in that respect.

Gee does read this blog.

Maybe it wasn't such a great example to use seeing as how you guys got so confused.

Wait just a minute. You make a statement saying that a girl on girl kiss is "worse" than the hateful racist and misogynist lyrics that MSI spew out and then say that we are confused?

I think you are the one who is confused.

Anonymous said...

Who's a racist? Based on what?

Anonymous said...

So there's one rule for the Madonna's and Britney's in the world and another for everyone else? And you may not have a problem with the things they do, but I think you're forgetting their target audience is girls. Girls who will go home thinking it's okay to wear provocative clothing, roll around on the floor, randomly kiss other girls just to shock and so on.

Because Madonna and Britney invented provocative clothing and young girls really want to roll on the floor and kiss other girls to shock. What a stupid thing to say.

The sexualization of young girls involves a mindset: the mindset namely that you have to look a certain way (hot) and always be available to get a boy.

These are the very things Lynz appears to have promoted tacitly. It doesn't matter if you're not good at what you do, you are merely a showpiece. Don't learn and become competent, don't try hard to set any examples because one day you will find that man that can look after you.

You seem to also concentrate on the fact they are not mainstream so have no power. Untrue. The very subgroup they appeal to, are the group of girls that should be most assisted with challenging this traditional mindset.

They did it to promote themselves to sell their record. I considered it silly. though there should be nothing wrong with same sex kissing, and not as ridiculous as writing songs about pedophiles to give attention to your crappy band.

Who said we want to get rid of them? They can write what they like, and we can have an opinion about it. Only people like you try to come here and sanitize them, much like a vocalist who married a member of the band.

Anonymous said...

Madonna and Brittney didn't give an interview in a magazine about how they are role models like Lindsey did. They never said, "Hey girls, you don't have to learn to dance or sing! Just flash some skin and kiss another girl and you'll have a pop career!"

It would be preposterous if they did. For one thing, it would be a lie. Both Madonna and Brittney have something that propelled them to the top of the charts (dance training, business sense and a tremendous work ethic on Madonna's part and dance training, Disney backing and extreme sex appeal on Brittney's part) which most girls just don't have.

Lindsey did tell girls that they didn't have to be able to play an instrument to be in a band. She told them to just go out there and do it. Maybe that worked for Lindsey, but how much demand do you think there is for dog-and-pony show bands like MSI?

kapunua said...

Maybe it wasn't such a great example to use seeing as how you guys got so confused.

First, no: It wasn't such a great example to use because it wasn't such a great example to use. You made the mistake. Stop deflecting.

Secondly, Also, sadly no-one can stop them from making the type of music they do. It's the whole freedom of speech thing, right?

Do you even read this blog? Did you even read what VV wrote in the entry before this one? Do us all a favor: Read that and think about what you just said.

Actually, I'll help you:

• The First Amendment protects us from the government, and not from other Americans who disagree with what we have to say. “Congress shall make no law” — the first five words of the First Amendment — say it all: No government body can limit our rights to speak out. In this case, there’s no government action, just public outrage and pressure.

Think a little.

Third.

The only thing you can do and not be offended by them is to stop listening to their songs, stop paying them attention and stop spreading their name across the internet. You can't physically go out and get rid of them, the only thing you can do is ignore them. I mean, why listen to music that you KNOW will offend you?

Apparently you actually haven't read this blog and are just coming here to spew the same old nonsense over and over again. And yes, it is nonsense, when this argument has been shot down time and again.

Umm, did you miss today's post?

4. If we don’t talk about it, it’ll magically go away

What part of this do you not understand?

Anonymous said...

Disagreeing hard with that last part. "Extreme sex appeal" is subjective and something that is just given. If you have it, it's not something you worked for. That kind of negates your argument.

However, both women did work hard, I guess to get where they are, instead of marrying a rock star and then pretending like they were some sort of amazing and wonderful career-woman before then.

Anonymous said...

You seem to also concentrate on the fact they are not mainstream so have no power. Untrue. The very subgroup they appeal to, are the group of girls that should be most assisted with challenging this traditional mindset.

Exactly. These girls need to be inspired to go out and get an education or to develop a talent so they can make their way in the world. They don't need some empty-headed fake rock chick encouraging them to go out and be in a band that barely gets by, in the hopes of landing a rawksta husband who will then support themselves for the rest of their lives.

Anonymous said...

"Extreme sex appeal" is subjective and something that is just given. If you have it, it's not something you worked for.

True, but I wasn't saying that girls should aspire to have sex appeal. They either do or they don't -- and you have to admit that Britney's looks played a very large part in her career.

I was saying that it would be ridiculous for any girl to think she could go out there and become the next Britney if she doesn't have Britney's attributes -- one of which just happens to be the way she looks.

You losers need to look at Gerard's cover on the next issue of Kerrang. He does read this blog and he's laughing at all of you. The last laugh cuz this record is going to be epic! It's going to put MCR over the top to be the biggest band in the world. Fuck U2, fuck the Kings of Leon, fuck everybody. MCR will rule.

sorry if i sounded like a bitch, but i just need to get this outta my head. and sorry again if i offended anyone. =[

'And this one time when GW was 4, he ate paste. He's such a douche. Let's tear him apart like his friend's in MSI do everyone else.' (This is what people here sound like sometimes, completely insane and ridiculous.) Let's focus on the actual wrong-doing (and let's try to remember that he was massively screwed up on drugs & or alcohol for the last few years). Not his neck, hair, standing position. You keep calling kid's out on their petty immature behavior (or logic) when it comes to MCR. But are any of us here old enough to spell hypocrite? Why is it alright to mock someone when the comment is coming from someone HERE, but not for a kid trying to defend a band member they like, in the very same manner? Regardless of weither or not they should be looking up to someone in MCR, don't pretend that arrogant mocking behavior here is more apporpriate than the way the kids behave back at you. You people are smarter than that. Please assume some who read here are too. This attitute and logic is pointless. If you want to make a point to the kids that follow them, try calming explaining WHY to them. Don't throw stones back at them. You teach them nothing. Nothing productive anyway. All you're really doing is teaching them to throw stones, just like MSI is so found of doing. Did this not occur to anyone? Help them. Don't behave like them.

thats how this blog started. we all thought maybe if he realized what msi was bring out in him (whether or not it had been there all along) and how it was hurting those same youngs fans of him he told all those inspiring words too that hed snap out of it before its too late.

now that its too late though i see no problem in vent my frustrations as we all watch him selfdestruct.

i just hope msi goes down first. i want to believe that bad things can happen to bad people too.

Lynn said...

See that is the thing no one gets. We don't really care if kids follow them. We don't care if they are fans. We don't go to fan sites and mock them. We stay here and discuss how WE feel about them, be it their music or how shitty their singer is. There are plenty of fansites they can go and have people agree with them.

Anonymous said...

Wow, Lynn. I believe your comment is the very reason so many people have an issue with this blog. You see nothing wrong with calling out MCR (as I agree you should on the wrongs they have done) but yet, when faced with an opportunity (the fankids coming HERE) to actually do something about it -you what? Just don't give a fuck? My god. You have finally won, I give up on trying to reach some kind of understanding with people here. Some of you I get, I understand where you are coming from. But I can't believe this. This is however just one small part of a big ole fandom/antifandom-world on the net. I for one, will do my best to help the misguided kids understand things better. And you, Lynn, you appear to be nothing better than the members of MSI you so claim to loathe. They don't care either. You apparently don't get the sickening similarities you just claimed on yourself. Congradulations, you didn't need Jimmy Urine to make an ass out of you. You just did it yourself. I hope some of you here do not agree with Lynn on the issue of the younger fans. They will stil come here. I'm gonna cross my fingers someone will try a little harder than not at all.

Anonymous said...

And, 8:51. I agree with you. But, I will not look forward too, or enjoy the destruction of anyone. I like to think, eventually someone can become a better person. Even the vile members of MSI.

MCR fans don't want nor do they understand logic when it comes to their idols. The only thing they want to read or hear about their beloved band is that they are perfect and that everything they do is golden. People can't even say they don't like the new song on one of the MCR lj comms without being called "haters".

I think it's a bit ridiculous for anyone to think that this blog is going to change any of those kids' minds. They have an almost brainwashed, cult mentality and they see us as the enemy. They aren't going to listen to anything negative about the idols they worship.

Eventually, most of them will grow up and open their eyes (although some of the older ones probably never will). Until then, they have their fan sites where they can talk about how Gerard is OMG SO HAWT, etc.

This place is for us, the ex-fans. When the current fans become disillusioned and want a place to express their feelings, we will be here for them.

"The very subgroup they appeal to, are the group of girls that should be most assisted with challenging this traditional mindset."

Are you kidding me with this statement? So you're saying girls who listen to Rock music are somehow more vulnerable then girls who listen to, say, Pop? Stereotyping, much? EVERY young girl is vulnerable, no matter what she listens to or what videos she watches. All young girls are impressionable no matter what environment they are in.

"These girls need to be inspired to go out and get an education or to develop a talent so they can make their way in the world."

Again, a very stereotypical way of thinking about girls who listen to Rock.

"If we don’t talk about it, it’ll magically go away"

Okay, so it won't go away but bands like MSI thrive on people talking about them, something which you guys have been doing for years. Have you been able to change anything? No. Will you be able to change anything? No, and so the circle will continue.

So they don't say it aloud but they are whether they like it or not. It's just the way things go when you are in the spotlight. Anyway, where would they be if their fans didn't look up to them and admire them?

I've seen a lot of comments about Lindsey's stage performances and such. You say she "prances around" in a school girl outfit flashing her underwear and doing backbends. What about stars like Beyonce? Have you seen some of the outfits she wears on stage? If not, check out this performance.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_TXOzB5EyM

The woman is practically in lingerie. If Lindsey had ever worn something like that I can only imagine the hysteria it would have caused on this blog.

Please don't say Beyonce doesn't think she is a feminist or a role model for girls. With songs like "Single Ladies and Independent Woman" I think she does, but at the same time she has songs like "Freak 'em Dress" on her albums. What do you say about that?

lol!! from the 2nd part of Kerrang

He (GW) felt what was missing was the recklessness of old, of daring, do anything craziness that defined how bold they had been. It was quickly becoming a worry. But then his wife (of course) stepped in.

She old me 'you're an artist. You're not just a musician, look what you did on parade'. It was the first time someone had said that to me (sure!) "Are you serious because your arguments are quickly becoming ridiculous. Beyonce actually has talent, her own career and name distinct from her husband something Mrs Gerard Way doesn't and never appeared to have."

You still haven't commented on the way she dresses, or is it okay for Beyonce to dress like that, you know, because she has "real talent"? Is she excused?

"Why don't you stop trying so hard to defend MCR and maybe actually pay attention to what we're saying here."

What are you trying to say here? I'll admit, I've read some blogs-not all, just enough to get the gist of this place. I understand you feel "disillusioned" and "let down" by Gerard and co, which makes me think you must have really thought highly of Gerard to be that upset with him.
You hate MSI, I get that. I'm not a fan of MSI either, I've never listened to their music and never will, but I do still listen to and enjoy MCR's music. I just enjoy the music, though. Getting attached to band members/singer/actors has always seemed like a rocky road to me, seeing as how most celeb's lie through their teeth to get somewhere.

To be completely honest I wouldn't even have commented on here, It's just I've read things that have upset me. Not as a fan-I'm not that passionate about MCR to get upset over them, but as a woman. But I'll get back to you on that.

Anonymous said...

We haven't commented on that because there is nothing wrong with how Beyonce dresses. Honestly, where do you get the idea that we think female musical artists should wear turtle necks and maxi-skirts?

I don't have a problem with anyone showing skin.

Yes, people have commented about Lindsey flashing her underwear because that's really all that she contributes to MSI, from what I've seen.

Come back and talk about Beyonce when she bends over onstage in a short skirt and shows the audience her underpants while holding an unplugged microphone.

I don't understand why you people seem to think that women using their sexuality to get ahead is a bad thing. It's the goddam law of the land, always has been, always will be. We don't have to like it, but it's true. TRUE. It will never change. Sex, looks, sex, sweet-talking, pants flashing, boob-showing will get you further than a degree. It's a sad truth.

For real? I'll explain dumbass. when woman use their sexuality to "get ahead" in life it usually looks like they have nothing else to offer to the world. woman are not sex objects and should not be viewed as such.

kapunua said...

You really kinda didn't answer anything I said, but I get that. I realize that you kind of couldn't. That's okay.

Okay, so it won't go away but bands like MSI thrive on people talking about them, something which you guys have been doing for years. Have you been able to change anything?

That's weird, because just a few posts ago you were saying that if something doesn't reach enough people, then it doesn't matter what you say.

I can't / won't change the racists / homophobes / sexists asses in these two bands any more than I can change Anne Coulter. Mel Gibson etc. But that doesn't mean I am going to keep my mouth shut.

"Oh, you can't change them, so we might as well just, well, ignore it and it won't go away."

I mean, honestly?

One last thing. You guys criticize MSI for their lyrics yet YOU resort to name calling-troll seems to be your favorite,

LMFAO, right. because "troll" is so on the same level as f****, bitch, c***, whore, n**** and the rest. Oh yeah, I can see how someone would be just as hurt being called troll as any of those words.

Get real.

kapunua said...

Also, I don't care, and have never cared about what the hell women want to wear. WTF, where did that even come from?

It's the way women are being treated (and minorities, homosexuals and practically every marginalized group you can name) by both of these bands that makes me want to spew all over their designer bags.

And to do so under the flag of feminism, that's my issue.

But you just keep on putting words into our mouths now, you hear?

kapunua said...

I also retain the right to think that Lindsey looks like a prat up there on stage, too.

RT said...

So I'm back to tell you the real reason why I commented here. We could go back and forth with all the other things I said (none of which you understood), but I think this is more important.

After reading most of the comments on here about Lindsey, it's pretty safe to say you all dislike her immensely. I know some of you think she has no talent, some disapprove of her stage antics, some hate that she is associated with MSI. This is fair enough in my eyes. What makes me angry are your views on her marriage to Gerard.

You all assume she is “living off” him, that she only married him so she could lead a comfortable life. How typical of you to assume when a woman marries a famous, more wealthy male she is only after his money. That makes me sick. You have the nerve to discuss woman's rights yet you have resorted to the oldest stereotype in the book. That no matter what, all woman are golddiggers inside, that we are all seeking a wealthy man to “take care” of us. What an offensive way to view and judge a fellow woman.

But you don't stop there.

This is, in my eyes, the most offensive part. You believe she got pregnant on purpose so she would have a hold on Gerard forever. That in case they should ever split she would still be financially secure-yet another sickening stereotype for woman-made by you, the so-called feminists. Has it occurred to you that their child may have been a surprise for both of them? You claim to be all for woman's rights yet you harbour some caveman-like thoughts and you express them and still have the audacity to say Lindsey is a hypocrite. I think you are all sailing in the same boat of hypocrisy.

You have also ridiculed the tattoos Lindsey has on her body. Note I said HER body, not yours. Surely you know the whole point of feminism and woman's rights is that woman should be treated equally to men? If a man can have a tattoo without being branded as classless, why can't a woman? And why is she considered a “skank” if she does have them? Frank Iero has more tattoos then her, even Mikey has tattoos. I've never read any comments demeaning them in the same way.

You all see their faults (of which there are many) but do you see your own?

Those words are meant to make another person feel as though they are less than you. Inferior to you.

Just like the "n" word and the other words you mentioned.

I've seen many of you call people idiots and retards.

Just because a word isn't banned from network television doesn't make it less demeaning, hurtful or offensive.

But you'll never admit that. You'll never admit the harmful and hurtful intend behind your words when you call people who don't agree with you idiots or retards.

You have the nerve to discuss woman's rights yet you have resorted to the oldest stereotype in the book.

While I have not been one of the people who said that Lindsey married Gerard for his money, you have to admit that the first thing Gerard did after getting with Lindsey was to start promoting her band. You can't deny that. He took them on tour. He talked about them in magazines.

The result? MSI's press coverage went up by about 300 per cent. Think I'm kidding? Go take a look at the press page on their website. It's all there for you to see.

Also, Lindsey was suddenly being interviewed by magazines. Think that was because she was the bass player in MSI? How odd that they never interviewed her before. In fact, when MSI did manage to scrounge up an interview (pre-Gerard), Lindsey rarely ever even got to speak.

So, if you are saying that Lindsey did not profit from her marriage to Gerard, you are being a hypocrite.

With regards to her being a woman, it doesn't matter. If a less than famous man marries a more famous woman and then tries to profit by it, they get called out. See: Keven Federline. Are you saying that Lindsey should get different treatment because she's a woman?

Cave man thoughts? You are a fool and I consider equal in gullibility to MCR/MSI fans to believe that some females are not above manipulating the situation to suit themselves and would never do it. As we support feminism we should never bring this up and think this is never possibility? Now talking about Lindsey a person from an obscure, virtually unknown, rough struggling band and she is not enjoying her new lifestyle? You are ridiculous and I consider you one of the people who are trying to sanitize her past make her image more palatable. It's people like her and you it seems, that seem to distort the very concept of gender equality and what it represents.

Maybe the next video will feature Gerard and Lynz riding off into the apocalyptic sunset as his only hope is his zoid.

What I find funny is you call me and others a troll then you try to justify your words by saying, “It's not as bad as calling someone a n*****, f***** or b****. Name calling is name calling no matter how you try to package it. Maybe you don't think “troll” is an offensive term, but maybe the people actually being called a troll think differently?

By the way, I'm not “E.T”. Why would I come on as another person? Also, I don't know what Mayo's is. Care to enlighten me? (I should add this is the first time I've even bothered to read/reply to any blog on the internet) And no, my last comment wasn't something I pulled out of my ass, as Kapuna so elegantly put it. (Resorting to offensive comments again, I see.)

Let's get one thing straight, the first comment I made was a question because I really wanted to know why you all hate Gerard so much, then with the replies I got I had to answer them. It snowballed from there. It's not like I had a plan of attack all mapped out in my head. I just went with the flow. Maybe I should have taken it as seriously as you do. I didn't expect such an intense reaction, to be honest.

Kapuna, you say I never answered most of your comments. It's true, I didn't. Not because I didn't have anything to say but because it's clear you haven't understood a word I've said. We would probably be here for eternity. But YOU have twisted some of my comments. I never said it's wrong for a girl to kiss another girl, BUT DOING IT ON STAGE FOR ATTENTION IS WRONG. Why is that so hard for you to understand?

Some of you have left comments suggesting that maybe I'm homophobic:

“Is it the one about how shameful it is for girls to kiss other girls?”

When did I say that?

“I'm almost thinking of this one time when someone said that girls kissing was "worse" than calling someone f****, but by worse, she didn't mean "worse." Just, you know, worse.”

You've taken my words out of context here. Like I explained-it's worse when you do it ON STAGE FOR ATTENTION SEEKING PURPOSES.

And last but not least. Kapuna and some others have said they have no problem with celebrity entertainers “showing a little skin”. Really? You don't think that has any impact on kids? But the Anti-Christ-aka, Lindsey doing backbends does, right?

Well, maybe you don't read newspapers or magazines, but I've lost count of how many times I've read about a young girl developing an eating disorder after seeing how “perfect” her idol looks on stage. They always say, “I wanted to look like so and so.”

These woman have perfect bodies and always look immaculate, but have you ever stopped to think how it effects young girls minds? Where do you think the pressure to look so damned perfect all the time comes from anyway? Hell, when I was a teen I didn't look at magazines either because they made me feel bad about myself-and I didn't even suffer from low self-esteem. Perhaps if Lindsey lost an unhealthy amount of weight you'd suddenly become interested in the issue?

Did the “size zero” debate also pass you by? I think so, seeing as how you're fighting the good fight over here about how some less then mediocre, virtually unknown band writes offensive songs, and how a lead singer never kept his word.

You need to see the bigger picture, and if you want to fight for something, make sure it is something worth fighting for.

I know, I know. It does go on a bit, but really, I don't have time to keep coming back here and leaving comments, so I have to do it all at once.

Anonymous said...

RT do you read things said by these people or just conveniently ignore it like you accuse us of doing. Lindsey herself appears to have a preoccupation with weight making underhanded comments on an interview about how anyone who has a negative perception of her must be a consumer of crisps therefore implying they are 'fat". She even said it in a video. I wonder how she treats her sister.

Constantly trivialize anything they do or say. That's your tactic. Consider this: the lead singer you idolize was calling a fan of his a "cunt" under his pseudonym "party poison" but deleted the tweet before too many people saw it.

Anonymous said...

Another thing you seem not to know very much about the psychology of perfectionism and weight issues. I bet you learned everything from the so-called expert and Lynz's best pal, Jessicka Adams.

People with stupid reasoning. This is a place to express our opinions don't you read?

You cult of zoid members really have to educate yourselves.

You cannot tell anyone what is worth fighting for anymore than we can tell you or your other army members who to idolize and fangirl over.

It doesn't come from magazines, they reflect what girls want to see because they are trying to sell their magazine, like your idols are trying to sell their record. Peer groups and the pressure they exert are far more influential in this formation. Also a personality type prone to perfectionism is more inclined to be influenced. Read the current research and stop generalizing.

It's all just a vicious cycle really. Pressure is put on female celebs to be skinny and because this is seen as the "ideal" it puts pressure on all females.

Anonymous said...

There is a difference between being skinny and developing a full blown eating disorder such as RT was suggesting. Eating disorders are not triggered by images, although once in the disorder they reinforce the disorder.

They are psychological disorders that a sub group of people (males included) can fall into, and the trigger just like any other addictive disorder such as alcoholism and the like is stress that the individual cannot cope with at the time.

Anonymous said...

What underlines all these mal- adaptive disorders are a form of extreme anxiety or clinical depression.

kapunua said...

So, I shouldn't wear a bikini in public because I might make some girl have an eating disorder? Because I'm fairly lanky myself.

And, everyone who dresses how the hell they want is automatically "a size zero?"

Should this burqa theory of yours apply to men, too? Or are they allowed to show any body shape they want without fear of destroying other people?

Has it occurred to you, ever, that a lot of the emaciated models who are actually size zeroes are quite often covered up in ridiculous clothes, and still looking as if they're shaped like an earthworm?

Yeah, your comment makes absolutely no sense, RT, but I've come to expect that.

So, among us we've flattened all of your "but but but! What about THIS, that's REALLY what I meant" nonsense. What ya gonna pull out of there next?

Anonymous said...

And yet here you are, fighting us on an out-of-the-way blog. How much time have you spent here? I hate resorting to cliché, but perhaps you should practice what you preach?

Sense. You make none, RT.

I'm a size 2 and I have to work at being that big. I'm just naturally thin and I come from a family of naturally thin women.

So, according to RT, I suppose I should hide myself away from the rest of the world so as not to give bigger girls self-esteem issues? I think not. I wear whatever makes me look good.

With regards to Beyonce, do you really think she wears a size 0, RT? She is certainly a beautiful woman, and I can tell that she works at it, but last time I saw her, she appeared to be a very healthy weight. Same goes for Britney, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and every other pop star out there who dresses in skimpy outfits.

If you want to complain about the media pushing skinny role models on young girls, pick on the fashion industry. Not music.

kapunua said...

it's true. The fashion industry is the one that is the least forgiving towards women. While society as a whole really does hate our guts (too big, too small, too round, too narrow, too long etc.) you do see a lot more successful musicians and actresses of varying sizes, shapes etc. You never see that in the fashion industry.

Look, I hate the fact that women are destroying themselves over this insane standard, too. But since when is someone like Lindsey a size zero? She probably outweighs me, and I'm 5'9".

What bothers me more, though, is this idea that women's bodies are dangerous and need to be covered up. Otherwise they'll hurt someone.

Movie fans?

Tom Hardy (Heathcliff in Wuthering Heights, SWEET PYCMY JESUS YES and Mr. Eames in Inception) just got a role in Batman 3.

Discuss? ^_^

Me, I love T-Hard like an insane person.

Pygmy, that is. Although pycmy sounds like a cool word. ;D

That's hypocrisy at it's finest.

Deflecting what subject? I've read back over the comments and every single topic brought up by RT has been addressed.

Besides, Tom Hardy is much more interesting than GWay or MSI or anything relating to them.

As for his lips? I think they're gorgeous! He can suction himself to me any time he wants.

Oh I know. We can't quite compete with the classy MCR fans who want to read fanfic about what was it? The MCR wives fisting and fucking their restrained husbands with strap-ons? If only we were so refined.

“So, I shouldn't wear a bikini in public because I might make some girl have an eating disorder? Because I'm fairly lanky myself.”

Why am I not surprised? Once again you missed the point I was making.

“So, according to RT, I suppose I should hide myself away from the rest of the world so as not to give bigger girls self-esteem issues?”

When did I say that? Again, you missed my point. I'm not even going to bother repeating myself. I think I've done it enough with previous comments.

“And yet here you are, fighting us on an out-of-the-way blog. How much time have you spent here? I hate resorting to cliché, but perhaps you should practice what you preach?

FYI, just over a week. Not weeks/months/years. Some of you should practise what you preach also, what with the name calling (Skank-Z, anyone?) and the inane comments on whether Gerard has an ass or not, whether he wears hair plugs-let's not forget the amusing nickname for alleged hairpiece (Mr. Fester, I think) Really, this blog loses credibility on it being a “place where you can express your opinion” with these unnecessary and offensive comments and exposes some as hypocrites.

“Do you read things said by these people or just conveniently ignore it like you accuse us of doing”

So many of you reply I end up missing bits out. I admit that.

And to Kapuna, how nice of you not to call me a troll this time. Maybe you learnt a lesson on double standards? I hope so.

The Burqa issue would probably keep me here for a while so you can understand why I'm not going to go into it. Lastly, you do use some interesting terminology, Kapuna. You say you've “flattened” everything I've said, or “shot it down”. Your words are quite violent, wouldn't you say?

RT said...

Okay, I take it back. Kapuna you have learned nothing about double standards. So you just posted a video entitled "Lord and Lady Douchbag" and aimed it at Gerard and Lindsey?

You are a hypocrite of the highest order.

Anonymous said...

Once again you missed the point I was making.

Did you ever have a point? Honestly, you are the worst debater I've ever come across. You haven't made a single point that has made sense and hasn't been shot down.

Just what the fuck was your point when you said that Beyonce's manner of dress was harmful? What was your point when you said that Madonna and Britney kissing (you left out Christina, btw. Madonna kissed her too.) was "worse" than MSI?

I hate to say it, Sweetie, but you aren't very bright. Maybe you should forget the whole debating thing because you suck at it.

Anonymous said...

Okay, since you didn't understand what I meant when I asked you why you were here on this blog, I'll rephrase it.

Since you tell us we should be out "fighting the good fight" instead of "wasting time" on this blog, I will ask you the same question.

Why aren't you out "fighting the good fight", RT? Why are you here? What do you think you are going to accomplish or prove? Other than the fact that you don't seem to have very good reading comprehension or debating skills, because you've proven that. In spades.

Anonymous said...

Did you ever have a point?

I don't think even she knows what her point is.

Anonymous said...

Kapunua (and the rest of us) have always said GW and the missus are douchebags. How does Kap posting a video about it make her a hypocrite.

It's like your mind doesn't follow any kind of logical pattern. You just jump from point A to point D or something.
