Oh my God, I had a whole post typed out and Blogger crashed and deleted it without saving a draft.
I forgot most of what I wrote so I have to start over.
I notice some of you talking about Laura Slessinger and her use of the N- Bomb recently. I saw some of the fall-out from that in the news too. And it made me think about what gets said to a lot of you sometimes.
We see a lot of MSICR fans saying that MSICR have the first amendment right to use whatever language they want and we have no right to stop them. I think once even Lyn-Z made a comment about "Thank God for the first amendment" when talking about her band's lyrics.
But I have always thought, no one is TRYING to take away their right to use hate speech. We have the right to our opinion too when it comes to lyrics that are racist, homophobic and misogynist.
This article about Laura Slessinger and the first amendment said a lot of what needs to be said here too.
These are the parts I wanted to quote.
• The First Amendment protects us from the government, and not from other Americans who disagree with what we have to say. “Congress shall make no law” — the first five words of the First Amendment — say it all: No government body can limit our rights to speak out. But the whole article is really good.
MSICR are allowed to use hate speech in their lyrics. MSICR fans are allowed to listen to those lyrics and interpret them any way they want. They can think they are about something else, if they want to. You interpret things however it makes sense to you.
YOU are also allowed to hate those lyrics, take them at face value (which the bands themselves always say), and to boycott them if you want..... forever if that's what you want.
There will always be arguments as long as there are lyrics, tweets, concerts and interviews with that kind of speech. There will be disagreements no matter what. But disagreeing is NOT the same thing as squashing someone else's rights.

I remember when the MCR comms were teaming with long-term fans. Most of them are long gone now. I don't recognize any of them from my old days on lj.
It's weird. I expected at least one or two people I used to know to still be into this band, considering how fanatical a lot of them were back in the 3 Cheers days. But that was nearly 6 years ago, so I guess it's to be expected.

I didn't say you were stupid or jus jelluz, did I? I said you are better than any fansite I have seen because you look for everything and report it here. I would take your hatred of them more seriously if you stopped caring what they do. There are lots of actors, actesses, bands, singers, etc. that I don't like but I don't read about or look for anything about them.
MCR used to offer larger numbers. But then they started getting stuck with them...like the masks and the vests.
They've decided to keep their numbers lower now so they can save themselves the embarrassment of LE merch languishing on their website for months on end.

People come here and ask why if those of us here don't like the band anymore, do we continue to seek information on them out and whatnot. For me, personally, I invested a lot of time and money in this band, because, along with their music, they sold an image that turned out to be total shit. I continue to follow their careers, because when they fall on their ass, I want to be there to smile down at them. There is no way that this record will do anything near the album sales of Revenge & TBP, and selling limited edition autographed photos is only going to go so far. They owe their label a ton of money, and have families of their own to support. Is it snotty and vindictive to sit around and laugh at them when they do something stupid, or fail miserably? Maybe it is. Then again, I helped buy them their houses and designer handbags, so I think I've earned that right.
I feel kind of the same way as you do, 12:10, although it's not so much that I want to see them fall on their faces (even if they do kind of deserve that). I'm just curious to see what happens with the new record.

I thought exactly the same thing! I mean, go to mcr_unnofficial on lj and they have tons of theories posted along with links to all those twitter accounts. It's like the members of that comm are sitting there refreshing the MCR website in shifts or something.
We haven't even been interested in the whole thing at all, other than to laugh at the obvious sock puppets going on about the "sonically rich" 30 seconds of music they managed to "decode".

Exactly, 6:41. And if you go back and watch really old interviews (circa 2002-3)even before Holy Roller Novacaine came out, the guys in KOL talk about how the music they grew up listening to was like the music in a black church.
Radioactive is a song about rediscovering your roots. So it makes sense that they would feature a black gospel choir.

One thing I would like to ask of all of you is did you like the music of MCR before you started hating them? I have read many comments complaining about Gerards voice, the lyrics and the music.
I could understand if you want to protest buying the new CD or merch for boycott reasons but there must have been a reason you became a fan in the first place.

Most of us have addressed this at one point or another, but I'll say it again.
I used to like MCR. I was a big fan during the Three Cheers era. I saw them live for that headlining tour and I thought maybe they were a little off because Gerard couldn't hit a lot of the notes, but I was excited and so was the crowd, so for the most part, I let that go.
Then TBP came out and I was disappointed. I thought they were trying too hard. Still, I liked the band's so-called message and thought they were good guys. I went to one of the Black Parade shows and didn't really like the costumes and hoopla, although I liked the second half where they were MCR (not The Black Parade) although it was pretty clear to me by then that Gerard's voice was crap live.
Then came PR. Gerard sounded horrible (even worse than before) and he acted like a jackass. The band didn't seem to be into the show at all and were just kind of going through the motions. MCR was the worst band I saw that day, and with Julien K there, that's saying something.
Then Gerard started acting like a douchebag. Frank and Bob followed suit. The rest is history.
So for me, it's a combination of things. I figured out that MCR is a crappy live band who probably uses autotune. Combine that with the fact that they either turned their back on their message or it didn't ever really exist and there you go. Extreme disappointment and extreme dislike.
I'm going to throw a question out: Is there anyone who's okay with their music but hates the members?
I'm talking just their albums, becuase i don't like live versions of anything.

I didn't like TBP except for one or two songs, but even they got old really quick.
At one point I really loved Three Cheers, but I can't listen to it anymore. And to be honest, I'm not sure it's because I can't stand the band or if I don't like the music anymore. I don't seem to be able to separate the two.

I saw FOB with Blink-182 last year and they were great in concert. Much better than MCR.

What did you think about Blink's reunion? I thought they were great, but then I've been a Blink fan forever. There are just some bands that I'll love forever, no matter what, and Blink is one of them.
That was the first time I've ever seen Blink (I was too little when they were on their last tour) and I was absolutely blown away. All the bands played well, but when you're not a huge fan its hard to get into it, you know what I mean?

I go to a lot of shows and I usually try to be at least familiar with a band's music before I go so I can gauge whether I like them or not. I remember the last time I saw Taking Back Sunday, Envy on the Coast was opening for them. I really thought they were interesting and put on a live show, but I didn't know their songs. Afterwards I went out and bought their records and was really looking forward to getting to see them again sometime, but now they've broken up, which really sucks. :/

I didn't know that Envy on the Coast had broken up. Well i learned my new thing for today. Taking Back Sunday played a local club near me and I didn't get to go unfortuanetly, but I've heard their great live.
I love TBS live. They have so much energy onstage. I've seen them 5 times. Adam's voice can be a bit off sometimes, but when it's on, he's amazing. He's all over the stage. And that mic swinging thing. I don't know how he does it. I hope you get to see them soon. You won't regret it.
I haven't seen them since Matt Rubano left though. I missed Fred, but I don't know how I feel about a Matt-less TBS. I do love John Nolan, though.
The best show I've seen in the last 3 years would be a tie between Shinedown and A7X (with the Rev). That was two of the best shows that I've seen and was also really neat becuase after they played my town you saw them everywhere.
I never saw A7X. I bet it was amazing. The Rev was a great drummer. I'm sure you feel very privileged that you got to see him. I would have liked to.
Yea I do feel priviliged, it seemed to me it was about a year before he died, and thinking back to watching him, he was in the moment and it showed. It was completely devastating to me and a few of my classmates.
Shinedown is another band that plays in the moment, and that's what i find so neat about them they go out without much of a set list. I know that they came out and knew what the opening song was but after that they started taking requests.

I can appreciate your trying to negate others arguments with this one, but you leave out one very important fact. As far as I know, Jared Leto never claimed to be some upstanding man of moral value, and he didn't achieve his acting success or his musical success that way. Nor did JGL ever claim to be riding the rails of sobriety and being the one to "save" other kids lives.
MCR, however, did gain much of their success on the basis of their image, and their message. They were the ones who said repeatedly that they were the band to "save your life". They publicly stated to girls not to sell themselves out for "shitty" guys in rock bands. Gerard has spent the last few years screaming his sobriety, while portraying actions that speak differently. (speculating of course, there is no real proof he's using anything). On that same note though, he claimed to be sober, yet married someone in a band that have always been very open about their drug and alcohol use. As far as I know, LynZ has never come forth to say she threw all alcohol and controlled substance use overboard upon marrying her husband. Yet, she claims to want to be a role model for young girls.
I'm not a fan of 30STM, but I do find Leto a talented actor, as is JGL. Their sexism, drug use, ect, have no merit to me because they never sold me a message in order to sell their product. MCR did though, and that is why people here are upset, disappointed, angry or indifferent. Without the message they are a mediocre band at best. Musically, Ray might be the only one with honest to goodness talent.

No butthurt here. I'm fine and happy. The bloggers here sound very unhappy and butthurt about something or the other.
I would say the people in MSI must be very felt unhappy and powerless to write and play to songs that demeaned women and other people. I don't think that anyone here is particularly unhappy, and there is a marked difference with expressing outrage over liars that deliberately paint themselves as highly moral people as a means to make a quick buck.

For the anon who keeps harping on about JGL being a 'druggie', I'd like to point out that nobody here has ever condemned Gerard for his past drug use. People realize that he had a problem as many other rock musicians have had.
Many of us were concerned that he had slipped back into his old habits after the way he acted during and after Pro Rev, but most of the comments about that were expressing concern.
As for JGL, he admits to occasionally smoking pot. So what? If he said he smoked pot while driving a car, that he smokes it while he's performing, or if he had said in a previous interview that he would never smoke pot because it was bad and then turned around and did a 180 on that stance, I could see how we might get mad at him. What he did say was that he smoked it maybe once a month and really enjoyed it when he did. Big.Whoop.
As for his dabbling in psychedelics, while that's not something I would do, there are plenty of other famous people who have done that. I don't see people giving the Beatles any shit for having done it. JGL was speaking about a time in his life that is over now. Maybe he should have kept that info to himself so as not to encourage his fans to dabble in psychedelics, but he never claimed to be a role model. Neither did the Beatles.
As for Jared Leto, he may not be the model of male virtue, but I don't get how you can say he's a sexist. Having sex with lots of women is not the definition of sexism. To quote Inigo Montoya, "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."

People excuse bad behavior in others when they project their own ideals of that person based on what they believe to be their personality due to a few casual encounters. In reality everyone has another side to them. People with life experience or emotional maturity are aware of this.
I think Kellie's only 'life experience' is MCR/Frank/Lindsay & Jessicka. She seems like she has invested in every part of her life into those things (tattooing Frank on her arm, spending hundreds of pounds to stalk MCR & Lindsay etc) that she has no fallback from it.
She has to convince herself that Frank is a decent person, because if Frank was a racist and sexist (which we all know he is, and which are things she says she hates) she'd be lost. It's really quite tragic to see someone in that much denial.
I started off intensely disliking staunch MCR fans, now I actually feel sorry for them. Not because of their intense obsession with the band, more to do the lack of balance in their lives. I think it's funny how both Mikey and Gerard went on about how their respective wives were "musicians" in their own right (lol, like plucking the E string on a bass makes you a musician). Gerard went on and on and on about how hard Lindsey worked, etc. and Mikey about how talented Alicia was. Yet after the marriages, Alicia hasn't played the bass for any band and Lindsey only played with MSI for as long as it took her to get pregnant.

They were never really serious about their careers, only waiting for the next best thing to come along.
