Man you must be up out your mind!

Now I'm gonna make you dance
It's your chance
Yeah boy shake that ass
Oops I mean girl girl girl girl
Girl you know you're my world

Oops, sorry, did I go too far that time? LOL just kidding. I thought you people all might want to read something funny instead of the usual posts about hypocrisy and fake feminism.

Happy Halloween everyone.

If Lindsey really is expecting another child in the same year that MCR has an album coming out and a tour planned, I would expect Gerard to have a major mental breakdown. The Black Parade Tour made him crazy enough all by itself.

I think Gerard really is Ziggy Stardust, I just don’t know if he knows it yet.

If someone like Adam Ant fades into relative obscurity, what's going to happen to the likes of Gerard Way?

Maybe he can write a drug-induced blog in 15 years in a desperate attempt to get people to notice him, like CLove, or maybe he can have a fake feud with someone else from the good old days (Pete Wentz? Frank Iero?) that is well-publicized by Rolling Stone like Trent Reznor and Marilyn Manson seem to be doing. (If that feud is real, well, I feel sorry for them.) It’s already too late for him to “join” the 27 Club, but maybe he could start a... 32 Club, is it now?

yet she was an avid writer of sex scenes between Gerard and Lindsey. I fail to see how that's any better.

That's sickening.

Anonymous said...

If she's pregnant, it wouldn't surprise me. Lindsey not getting any younger and she still has to pump out four more to make the hubby happy.

The lovely Frank Iero's latest tweet: I'm going to find the snow god of the northeastern US and punch it square in it's vagina.

It's a joke, sure, but is anyone else sensing something wrong here?

it would have been funnier if he said vunch.

That's one of Kapunua's funny sayings.

Hmmm reminds me of the time Gerard kept saying 'my ASS!' on stage after Kapu kept saying it at Mayo's.

This would be even 'funnier' if that idiot would know how to correctly term a woman's genital. If he wants to punch whomever in it's(!) vagina he would have to insert his fist to do so. The correct term is vulva, but what do you expect from a brainless piece of shit like this?

Maybe that's why Jamia' still not pregnant, because Rumpelstilzchen doesn't know where to put it.

I think he sees himself as a tragic figure. Even with his talk of not being a victim for Bandit, he still speaks of not being there for her when she's 15. I honestly don't think he's going to be okay with fading into obscurity. He'd rather go out with a bang.

Don't think he has the guts to do it though.

Only Rolling Stone wouldn't really give Gerard and Pete (or Frank or Bert McCracken) the time of day because they never have. They recognize their brand of emo pop punk for the trend that it is. It's kind of a shame because I think Bert is really talented.

And every time someone mentions the 27 Club I get antsy. I wish it was February and Bert was 28.

Purely coincidental. Honestly, the way some people read Mayo and SS into every little word and gesture is kind of frightening.

Ever hear of the term erotomania?

Anonymous said...

Isn't that the disorder that those people who stalked Adam Ant had?

Scary. I kind of see that in a certain person who sends Frank gifts all the time. I bet there are lots more of those kinds of people out there. I don't think I would like being a celebrity.

Megan said...

Well it's straight up misogynistic; he's personifying something he's irritated with as female.
I wonder what female did what to him to make him feel that way? It seems to be a recent development.

To be honest I always kind of read into that as evidence of Rolling Stone being hopelessly out of touch, which they of course are. I bought their "Best of '00s" issue out of curiosity and they failed on so many levels. They named SPRINGSTEEN as one of the top few artists of the decade. Springsteen. Might as well have been the Beatles, for all the relevance he's had in this decade.
Plus they didn't even MENTION Brand New, which is just lazy. They should just fire all their staff and hire a random group of people off the street, they'd do a better job.

I agree with a lot of what you said here, especially the part about Brand New and Springsteen, although I did like the records that Springsteen released this decade. They just aren't as popular as the ones of the 80's.

However, I do agree with Rolling Stone when it comes to them not including bands like Panic, FOB and MCR. I think they'll be regarded as a fad when people look back on the 00's as a decade. We'll all be laughing at Gerard in his band uniform and eyeliner and Pete Wentz in his vampire regalia and going, "WTF was I thinking."

Megan said...

Panic! Rolling Stone cover
Fall Out Boy Rolling Stone Cover

So they haven't really excluded the emo scene on the grounds of having some dignity and ignoring a teenybopper trend, they've at times embraced it with covers like these. And what's more, they've missed out on some of the more transcendent bands of the genre, like Brand New.

(Emo is, of course, a trend that will be laughed at, much like the hair metal bands of the '80s or the disco of the '70s.)

I'd be a hypocrite if I thought he was gross for saying it.

OTOH it still kind of doesn't excuse or explain the "LOL A WOMAN GOT PUNCHED IN THE FACE!!!!!11111" junk.

Because joking about punching something non-existent in its non-existent vagina is funny, but real life violence = not so much with the funny.

I couldn't agree more. Brand New is the best band to come out of the decade. NME recognized them so why couldn't Rolling Stone?

When enough time has passed and the dust from the 00's has settled, I think maybe Brand New will eventually get its due. You just can't deny the beauty and intelligence of their lyrics.

I also think MCR will go down as one of those flash in the pan bands. They're nothing special musically or lyrically and they can't perform live. In an age where bands live or die by touring, eventually the world is going to realize that MCR sucks.

Anonymous said...

I'm the anon who posted the tweet and, while I do agree with you (I've made jokes like that before), when the tweet is put into context with some of his previous tweets, it's when it's questionable. Not to mention that at first it was an "it" and then it's apparently a her? Why not a he?

Megan said...

I'd be reluctant to say MCR never hit the "mainstream," considering they certainly weren't underground, you know?
In around 2007/2008, I was in eighth grade and MCR was all over our school. You'd see 2-3 girls with MCR shirts/hoodies on every day, and they played "Teenagers" at our school dance. Everyone knew who they were and talked about them. Maybe it's just where we live or something, but they definitely hit the mainstream here.

I agree that Brand New will be recognized later- they'll probably be one of those bands that is sooo popular with all these people that ignored them at the time, 15 years later. (Nirvana, anyone?)
Too bad I still have my Brand New tickets. Didn't get to go see them because of a family emergency.

I don't really consider bands who are known mainly by middle schoolers and high schoolers to be "mainstream". At one point, in 2005, when MCR won the Woodie award, they were on the cusp of becoming mainstream. Then, with the release of The Black Parade in 2006, they got a lot of press and were on their way to the mainstream, but then the kiddies picked up on them.

It's kind of an unwritten rule here in the US. Once something trickles down to the 13-14 year old set, they become persona non grata with older kids and young adults. That's certainly what happened with MCR at my college when TBP came out.

It probably differs according to where you live (the US is such a huge country) but that's the way it is here.

Anonymous said...

Nirvana was pretty fucking huge when they were active. They started the whole grunge movement in the mainstream. Sure they got even bigger once Kurt died, but the level they were at when he was around was enough to put them in the history books.

Oh, come on! Do you guys really think that Frank turned into a misogynist over night or because something has happened to him recently that made him hate women? Do you really think that he used the word 'cunt' for the first time on that LM show? Men don't give a fuck. At least not the majority and those who do are really hard to find. A woman that pisses them off is always a bitch a fucking pussy or a cunt. Those are the first words on their minds when they're ticked off. And society - and unfortunately many women also - support that kind of thinking.
Bob's artwork anyone?

I think in the past Frank was just smart enough to keep this kind of mindset to himself like most men do if they want to impress a woman or are dependent on (a) woman's/women's approval (f. e. to make a living i.e. selling records). And he also didn't have a blog and a Twitter to propagate his stupidity.

Just go to the gay news/gossip website 'Towleroad'. The gay men there are always whining about how nobody takes them seriously or respects them and how they're always discriminated against but when it comes to bashing each other in the comments or when they're discussing a female celebrity you don't have to wait long until someone of those discriminated gays uses the word bitch, pussy, whore or cunt. Even those idiots think that women are beneath them and they are people who should know what it's like to be discriminated against. So, if they don't give a fuck what can we expect from straight men then?

Anonymous said...

I agree. The members of MCR were never feminists. They were just doing what they were told would help them sell records.

Billie Joe Armstrong professes to be a feminist and American Idiot sold a zillion records so they thought they could do the same thing. WRONG.

Maybe Frank's 'newly expressed' misogyny is centered around one woman...

Can anyone think of just one woman who came into his/MCR's life -and brought about intense change? Some could say, a change so extreme it turned their own fans against them.

Hmm, tough call.

Anonymous said...

If that's true it'd make more sense for Frank to resent Gerard, seeing as nobody forced him to act like an idiot. Then again, maybe expecting anyone from MCR to make sense is expecting too much.

Unless you meant Eliza?

Anonymous said...

at first I thought you meant Lindsey but then I thought it was Eliza. it could work both ways I guess.

Anonymous said...

Hello Everyone,

I guess you could say that I'm a fan of MCR rapidly changing to much less of one, to possibly not a fan at all. I won't go into detail right now, but I'll be posting my own thoughts and how they've evolved over time concerning the band. You see the closer I get to this band (the more I learn) the less I'm liking them.

You guys have actually been helpful in that regard as well. You don't let the B.S. cloud your judgement like I'm seeing with the obsessive fans. They will defend anything the band does or says, and hold them to a different standard than they hold others too. It's ludicrous, and I realize now I was becoming one of those obsessive fans, and I'm 31 for gods sake.

I doubt I have anything really new to bring to the conversation - you guys know a lot about this band!- but I'm glad there are people out there talking about this, and its not just thoughts in my head. Its nice to know I'm not alone.

I'll make an account but for now just call me "waking up from fantasy"

Anonymous said...

Can anyone think of just one woman who came into his/MCR's life -and brought about intense change? Some could say, a change so extreme it turned their own fans against them.

If you mean Lindsey, I think you're giving that woman too much power. Also, nobody forced Frank to go on tour with MSI. People should let go of the illusion that Frank doesn't approve of Lindsey and hates MSI because obivously he doesn't have a problem with either of them.

Actually, I think that their actions and their music is exactly reflecting his own mindset and the one of his band members in MCR and LM as well.

And if you're really that pissed off by the decisions of your band members (i. e. not content with Gerard's actions or who he is friends with) then you should show some guts and leave that band for good.
Unless, of course, you are afraid that you can't achieve the same kind of success with your own shitty band and are so dependent on the money you're making with the other band and the kind of attention you're getting while being a part of it that you're too chickenshit to speak up and just keep doing what you do to not fade into obscurity.

Not to mention, guys are kind of stupid sometimes. So really, who the fuck knows whats going on.

Well, there are other ways to show your discontent, aren't there?! Why would he suddenly post misognyistic tweets to demonstrate that he's pissed off about the situation in the band? Wouldn't he rather post passive-agressive tweets towards Gerard then (or whomever else)? Why would his frustration lead him to become a sexist? If he is really not a friend of Lindsey's then there would be other ways for him to show that to her. I don't think that she would understand random offensive tweets towards women in general as a dig at her.

Hi its "waking up from fantasy". I decided that name was too long, and that the name I did choose was a little more appropriate.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome!

I guess I'll get warmed up here by throwing something out that I haven't heard many people on any boards talking about.
One of the things that initially made me like mcr more was when I found out that the lead singer and the bass player both liked to play D&D. They talked about it during that "Burning Angel" interview back when they were just starting out. In case it isn't obvious, I am a D&D player. I just thought it was cool that the band wasn't afraid to show their support for something they liked outside of the mainstream.

Next I found out from the LOTMS DVD that they were against the "groupie" trend that you tend to find in music bands. It scored them more points with me.

But I just don't really recognize the band any more. I agree with others that the people they are associating with now, and the relative increase to their notariety has changed them - MSI's song lyrics and lifestyle have been a large factor, based on what I've observed. This blog has opened my eyes even more. I'm shocked at what Gerard asked girls in the audience to do for example.

I guess this is a rough start but its a start. I'm still processing everything and I'm not entirely clear with how I feel about all I've learned yet. This is my first attempt to share my feelings with anyone about this. I know no one else in my life who is a fan of this band.

I won't go into it on this post, but I also want to talk about the fact that I can respect members of a band wanting to keep their personal life private, but I really feel like we've been lied to in order for a certain band member to maintain his image in front of fans. I'd respect him more if he was honest.

However at this point with how full of himself he seems to be lately, its probably too late to salvage me as a fan.

Hmmm..hopefully I can start expressing myself about this more clearly as time goes on.

Yeah, you're probably right, I just don't know as much about the others yet.

An example with Frank would be the deleting of the tweet where he laughed about the girl getting punched instead of just apologizing for making a jerk comment. He pretends it didn't happen instead.
Violence by men against women is too serious of a sign of sickness in our society to really be funny.

Anonymous said...

Could Gerard be any more obvious in his attempts to win over the male audience in that interview?

An example with Frank would be the deleting of the tweet where he laughed about the girl getting punched instead of just apologizing for making a jerk comment.

I hate how they don't think they ever have to apologize for anything. Case in point: that ridiculous fight Gerard and Frank had onstage at PR. They could have done so much more damage control by explaining what happened and apologizing for it, yet they just acted like nothing happened. Do they think that makes them look cool or something?

Maybe they should make "Are above apologizing for anything" one of the tag lines on their stupid website.

I think you'll find eventually that that tends to be true of all bands/celebrities (I'm sure there are exceptions, but I've yet to find one).

"I try to, as much as possible, keep my life private because I think it’s demystifying and it goes against what I’m really trying to do, which is make music that matters. I want to make something important, that you can read into, that you can make your own. Trent Reznor the guy does whatever he does in normal life — whatever normal is — but I think there should be mystique in music and in art." - Trent Reznor

Yup, he had it right. Too bad he kind of ruined it last summer with the whole Twitter/engagement/marriage fiasco, but I can forgive him. (I chalked it up to midlife crisis, haha.)

By the way, welcome romance_hangover (good name)!

Gerard Way in Spin, regarding recording the new record:

"I didn't shave for weeks, looked horrible, and ended up getting all these dreadlocks in my hair. I was never showering. I would show up in a t-shirt covered in baby puke -- you can pretty much picture the glamorous nature of that. And so we would work every day, and as soon as we were done I would rush right home and help Lindsey with the baby."

Why does he always brag about not showering? It's like he thinks it's a measure of how hard he's working.

Um, no. A total lack of personal hygiene is more like a sign of mental instability.

Anonymous said...

There are many people in very demanding stressful jobs, who have babies, do not lack personal hygiene and manage to present themselves at work, clean, showered and professional. He uses his personal circumstances to exaggerate the whole recording process. There are people with the hell more responsibilities who organize themselves and cope. As for Lindsey, as much as babies can be difficult, she is at home, not working and only has one. The average mother usually can manage themselves, why can't she?

Hi Megan,

You know I've kinda suspected that. I even posted a little thought on my twitter about it a while back. What I didn't understand until recently was why I was so motivated to learn more and more about the members of the band, even as I liked what I found less and less. Well, I recently found the mcrsecrets site on lj thanks to comments made by you guys on an earlier post. It turns out a lot of people have been drawn to learn a whole lot more about the members of this band. It must be something about them. I read one person on the secrets site talk about how open and accessible the band made themselves appear, and that could have encouraged people like me and others, to dig deeper. For myself I've always been drawn to mysteries and solving puzzles. I think once I, out of idle curiousity, looked up how the band got started, their origin story really hooked me and it snowballed from there possibly. It just seems like they became very interesting to me. I have lots of bands that I love and they span genres. This is the only band I've ever researched so extensively. I've never even considered them my favorite band.

Anybody else care to share what made them begin to dig deeper on this band.

romance_hangover said...

Oh, btw Megan, NIN was for most of my youth (the teen angst years) one of my favorite bands on a very short list. However, I never spent time researching Trent Reznor further than finding out his birthday was two days before mine, and where he was from. I was pretty happy about the birthday thing though, pretty lame :)

I did hear that he might have dated Tori Amos at one time, another artist I was a pretty big fan of.

Oh, and way off topic but I just have to throw out there to the KOL fans. I can tell that KOL is a talented band and I'm going to look up their older songs to give them a closer look, but I've just got to know....Am I the only one that found the "Sex on Fire" song funny at least at first. I mean come on. It might be a stretch but I can't help but think...don't kill me now...but..."burning std of some type" LOL. I'm sorry, I just need to know if its just me that made that "stretch" to a joke there... ;)

i agree with whoever posted that on mcrsecrets that they presented themselves as very accessible. more than they should of. for me i think it was LOTMS because they were so open and candid. for a time there i think i forgot they were actual people with real lives and emotions, but just thought of them as subjects to research and obsess over. then one day i stepped back and looked at myself and felt ashamed for that. that was around the time i found this blog i think, and i've never gone back.

romance_hangover said...

And just to make sure no one thinks I'm hating on KOL. I know that isn't what the song is about. I just have a dirty mind sometimes, and it struck me as funny the first time I heard it.

Anonymous said...

"You know your band is a huge inspiration for our sound on this record." That song is truly about the power of working class rock'n'roll versus the power of fame. It's working class rock versus Chanel fucking handbags and red carpets and all that bullshit."

What a major hypocrite this man is. His wife prances around in her YSL purse and wears Chanel eyeframes and he talks shit like this. Both of them are stupid hypocrites.

A KOL fan said...

Don't worry about the Sex on Fire joke, RH. As a long time KOL fan, I can tell you that most of us poke fun of the song too. Even the band does.

Caleb said that when Neil Diamond asked him what song his band had won a Grammy for at the after party, he was embarrassed to say the name. He told him, "Sex on Fire. Yeah, I don't know what it's about either." Jared (the bassist) once made a joke that the song was "about STDs" when he was being hounded by paparazzi in an airport. The video of him saying that got picked up and run on a bunch of websites, and suddenly they were reporting that the song really was about STDs (which it's not).

SOF is just really catchy and for some strange reason people connect with it. It's not even close to being the best song on the album and OBTN is far from being my favorite KOL album. I like Aha Shake Heartbreak and Because of the Times much better.

romance_hangover said...

"I like Aha Shake Heartbreak and Because of the Times much better."

Thanks KOL Fan! Very cool of the fans to enjoy a little humour at their band's expense. Even cooler that the band can be self-deprecating too.

I think all of us on this group have experienced fans of a *certain* band that tolerate no poking of fun at their band.

I'll be looking up more of the older KOL stuff. The lead singer has a nice voice. It's a little different than a lot of singers I've been hearing lately. I like the husky sort of raspiness of it.

romance_hangover said...

"His wife prances around in her YSL purse and wears Chanel eyeframes and he talks shit like this. Both of them are stupid hypocrites."

Yeah, and if I'm right about this he's always been into expensive kicks (shoes) of one kind or another himself.

I suppose it could be a matter of degree, and other bands are worse about "wearing their wealth" but still, when you basically shun anything like that in an interview, but still remain guilty of it yourself along with your wife, and at least one of your wive's friends (Jessica Adams based on Twitter)...it makes you a douche and the bag it came in.

Has he always been so contradictory and hypocritical? Thoughts?

I agree. Although I think the music is good, Caleb's voice is the one thing that really sets the band apart. His voice is very distinctive and he sounds just as good live as he does on his records.

Anonymous said...

He's just one of the many egotistical douches that inhabit the celebrity world along side the arbitrary appearance matched, but empty headed wife.

romance_hangover said...

Just curious, but I bet I'm blowing no one's mind when I say that "Famous Last Words" has lyrics that sound a lot like the confession of a cheater.

I've always thought the song was a confession of sorts to "Kat" or whoever bc of what he did with Eliza before he broke up with "Kat".

"And I know
There's nothing I can say
To change that part"
-nothing he can do to change that he cheated

"A life that's so demanding
I get so weak"
-stress of being away so often and temptation right in front of him

I don't know there's other stuff about being forgiven and all but those are the big lines that caught me after I read Eliza's crazy "fanfic" anyway.

Anonymous said...

I remember in one of Eliza's myspace entries from the "are they or aren't they" period (when she was wearing a ring but the engagement wasn't announced yet) she said something like, "The songs you're listening to are about my life. Listen carefully," (although with lots of misspellings). At that time I strongly suspected that FLW was about him cheating. I couldn't listen to it anymore after that.

I think I remember thinking that "Famous Last Words" was referring to cheating with the whole forgiveness thing, too.

It's hard to answer the question of "Why did I look into the story of MCR?" I guess I was a naive 14-year-old kid, I actually had a crush on GW (hard to imagine now!), and everything they were saying was new to me because they were the first rock band I really listened to. And they did get me in the door as far as the whole genre of rock, so I wouldn't change anything about my whole "obsession" period. And also, I could never look at another band the same way because I fell so hard when I figured out what a hypocrite/idiot Gerard Way is. Since then, I think I've taken all the bands I listen to with a grain of salt, which I think is healthy. I feel like I'm alone in being able to really laugh at the people in music I look up to, sometimes, or to say, "This person entertains me or is fun to admire from afar, but if I knew them in real life there's NO WAY I'd be friends with them/date them." To realize that only through music am I able to have a connection with this person, and that that’s fine.

Merry Christmas, everyone.

Anybody else care to share what made them begin to dig deeper on this band.
------------------------------------

Well, I first discovered them during a trip to the toilet. No, seriously. I found a copy of Three Cheers sitting on top of the lid. I got curious so I started looking through the booklet and the back of the cover. But also a couple of my nieces were into them at the time(They're no longer fans due to the fact that the emo music doesn't interest them) and they recommended me to check them out, so I did.

Merry Christmas Tiger Lily, hope it's a great one :)

I found out about MCR through someone at school. We had to analyse songs and she picked one of theirs. I didn't like it to begin with, downloaded it later and it grew on me until the point that I went out and bought Three Cheers. I think joining imnotokay.net and watching LOTMS made me more interested in learning about them.

But I think I was able to laugh at them a bit then too, which is probably why I find stuff like
this funny. lol

Anonymous said...

I think the reason that I decided to dig deeper into MCR as people was because of the way they presented themselves in interviews. It's like they were always trying to convince fans that they were just regular guys and that they cared about us. They made themselves seem more accessible than other celebrities. At the time I believed them.

Now I think it was all just an act.

Megan said...

which is probably why I find stuff like
this funny. lol

Haha that's amazing!

MCR definitely tried to seem accessible. When you look back on it it's almost creepy considering GW was 27ish when Three Cheers came out, and his average fan was what? Even then, 15? 17?

Anonymous said...

i think at one point they were sincere about wanting to be connected with fans. but then they got famous and got big heads from all the constant praise. plus it was probably overwhelming with all the crazies they attract. might have happened when they first got attention with 3 cheers. for me personally i'd be freaked out if the random strangers think they know me from just watching interviews and listening to my music. it was a mistake on their part for making themselves appear that way, but it still doesn't excuse them turning into douches.

i just think it's funny that we're finally seeing them for the lowlifes they are when they should be on their best behavior, what with this new album. they're not exactly relevant anymore, at least in the u.s., and turning off what fans they have left by their asshole behavior, just doesn't look good for record sales.

Megan said...

Not to say that the guys actually were being perverts or anything- I'm more saying that they're immature and that's why they related to teenagers in their 20s.

From the Rock Sound magazine:

Have you thought about how My Chemical Romance will reintroduce themselves to music fans in 2010? Do you ever wonder if your band is still needed in music?
Says Gerard Way (vocals): "It's funny because the music landscape is ever changing, but I think there's always a place for us and I think we're absolutely needed, especially now. I don't say that with any arrogance, I just really believe in my band and I believe that our band does what it does better than anybody else. There's no one that can do this like us. I feel a gap when we're gone and I hope people do too, if they don't then we're not doing our job properly. I think we're absolutely needed, but I'm glad we're coming back in 2010 because, as much as people need us, I think they needed a break from us too. I hope we got the balance of that right."

What have you tried to achieve with your forthcoming fourth album? How is it different from your past work?
"With this record we tried to ignore all the cosmetic nonsense and focus on becoming a truly great rock band. We felt that the world needed a really straight [!] and pure rock band, you're hard pressed to find a lot of those these days. It was less about the theatricality and more about how we become the greatest young American rock band musically."

How are you adapting to fatherhood?
"It's great, it's amazing. Obviously we just wanted a healthy baby, but [here it comes, people! xP]I was excited to have a girl as there are things I see myself helping a girl with that I could never do with a guy, things like picking out clothes and stealing eyeliner, all that sort of stuff!"

OH GOD!

Anonymous said...

"and I think we're absolutely needed, especially now. I don't say that with any arrogance, I just really believe in my band and I believe that our band does what it does better than anybody else."

His brain is totally fried if he thinks he can say that without arrogance. Or if he thinks anyone believes him when he says that.

Why does Gerard always brag about not showering? He did that after TBP too.

Does he not know that lack of personal hygiene is considered to be one of the warning signs of 1)a major depressive episode 2) drug abuse 3) severe mental illness such as schizophrenia?

At the very least, it's just plain laziness and disgusting as well.

If I were Lindsey, I wouldn't want my baby near some smelly asshole who hadn't showered in days and who was wearing a filthy, puke-covered shirt. That poor child. What lovely smells she's been exposed to.

Does anyone remember the part in LOTMS (I think) where they are at some radio station, or magazine HQ, or something, and the interviewer is saying that MCR won't want to know them when they get massive. Gerard is there saying "No we will never get like that. We aren't like that." (I can't remember the exact details). I totally believed him. He was very believeable. Funny old world ey.

If you mean Lindsey, I think you're giving that woman too much power. Also, nobody forced Frank to go on tour with MSI. People should let go of the illusion that Frank doesn't approve of Lindsey and hates MSI because obivously he doesn't have a problem with either of them.

I was pretty surprised when I read that Frank admitted that he was expecting to get a call that the band was breaking up... I mean, that's been my conception of MCR for months- that they're on the verge of disbanding/not doing too well. But to hear Frank tell it like it is is such a stark contrast from the way the all (self) important GW would tell it. (It always makes me laugh to call him that because it's so close to G.W. Bush.)

Exactly.

Plus, Halford boasts a four-octave vocal range. I'm not sure Gerard's range spans even one entire octave.

Kapunua said...

Hear, hear. Judas Priest has always been an acquired taste, one that I acquired at, like, 14 or something. Rob Halford sure did scream a lot, but the man could sing as well as scream and he had incredible power.

Priest are legends. Their time was about up when I got into them, but they're ageless in that way that every generation will probably discover them. Sorta like Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and such. You won't have had to be around for their peak popularity to fall in love with them. (Zeppelin was long disbanded, an the drummer long dead, when I "discovered" them.)

As far as MCR and their longevity goes, who knows? Maybe they will still be hugely popular twenty years from now. Maybe kids will discover them.

For me, I can't judge a band by how popular they are. Seriously, some of the most popular bands in the world suck all the pole in China. Popularity doesn't equal either brilliance OR mediocrity. All it equals is popularity. I think that brilliance can get popular (I love Stephen King and JK Rowling) and absolute trash can get popular (Twilight.)

I just judge bands on what I like.

Speaking of, 30STM is also an acquired taste. I happen to love most of the music. There are a few songs on the new CD that I skip, and I think they could have titled them way better. I'm not crazy about their new love affair with the synth. But the drums are insane, there's some real poetry on there, and Jared's voice is incredible.

And they seem like decent enough folk. :) When someone's nice to me repeatedly, and has a rep for being nice to just about everyone, I have a tendency to be a little more loyal. ^_^

Kapunua said...

Besides which, I have a soft spot for Leto. He gets picked on a lot, and instead of getting into a huff and talking about how awesome he is and how he just effing rules, he either shrugs it off or outright apologizes. When Perez Hilton spent about a month going after him, Leto went online and said "I'm sorry if I ever did anything to offend you."

Cagey? YES. Sincere? Probably not. But I still thought it was classy. ;)

Poor Frank, I still feel bad for him when I remember how Marilyn Manson made fun of him for being short. LOL.
It's too bad he's not relevant enough for his comments to circulate far enough that people who would actually be offended will see them. That's what a lot of these bands don't realize. MSI's act isn't actually offending anyone; their fans enjoy it and it doesn't circulate far enough for much of anyone else to learn of it and be offended. So they're failing in that regard. I'm in favour of Gerard Ballato. It did strike me as funny that Lindsey's publicly made her last name Way. I get it being Way legally, but having it on the end of her stage name (like on twitter) completely contradicts the whole "I have my own identity" dealio.

I wonder if anyone has any feelings on them firing Brian as manager.

Maybe they got sick of the one person who was warning them about the route they were taking and truly was on their side? Or maybe they just wanted that extra 15% they lost having to pay him for keeping their shit together...

I've been following Brian's twitter since the Summer.

He really seems like a sensible, smart guy. I think if they did let him go, it's a blessing in disguise. Imagine trying to deal with the damage control now. The days when Eliza was rampant on the net must have been bad enough for him.

Actually, Brian quit managing ALL the bands he was managing (MCR, Drive By...) apparently because it didn't pay enough and he wanted to be a 'stuntman'.

Gerard should get a turkey tattoo on his arm. To keep consistency in the family.

*So yeah, I don't think MCR are big enough, or important enough to influence or affect someone's career

Or even a goose.

In one of the recent articles about MCR's new record (it might have been Rolling Stone) there was the comment that the band took time off and "changed managers" which made it sound like they fired Brian.

My own personal theory is that Brian maybe tried to intervene when Gerard started making such an ass out of himself both with Eliza and during PR and that eventually led to the band and Brian parting ways. Brian probably sees it as he quit while Gerard sees it that he was fired.

At any rate, I think Brian was probably telling the truth when he said he just didn't see there being enough money in music to keep at it especially since his biggest client was gone.

especially since his once "biggest client" isn't so big anymore.

Yeah. MCR isn't exactly making too many end of decade lists. But the only people who have even heard of Drive By are MCR fans so...

I don't blame the guy for quitting. Besides, now he won't ever have to talk Gerard's bawling, drunk, suicidal ass down ever again. Can you imagine what that was like?

If it even happened. The thing with Gerard is you don't know whether any of his backstory is true or not.
